Actually, this is a pretty good idea. If we use the same logic as Laker fans, it will cancel out their abuse of the system and people that actually deserve to be positive repped will jump back in front of them.

Any time Jeff tries to give the board anything cool that almost ANY other board online can handle, the ISHiots ruin it.

2. New guys coming in will see that and it just gives them the wrong idea about things around here

Ok, here is why we SHOULD have negative reps:

Your arguement that we can't control it is kind of flawed, the one other forum I go to is immensly popular compared to ISH, they make threads for reps with the words "Do this for reps" in them. WITH THAT SAID, people whoring themselves can be fine because

A) You can just negative rep them so you can tell that they are the faulty posters

B) You encourage them to help out

i)If someone says "Photoshop this for reps" and someone like FashionIssues comes in and makes a Picasso, he gets reps and everyone gets a laugh. This will also make more people use reps.

ii) Some other people get reps randomly for their jokes they put in in those type of threads, again, increasing flow of reps, which is good because they will make you feel happy, appreciated, and in the long run, if everyone gets accustomed to using reps, they will be used properly for actual good posts because it will be a habit to rep someone.

C) You can't expect it to be perfect, nothing here is perfect on ISH. We could easily say the same thing with avatars, "Look, avatars are suppose to make people unique, all these Lakers fans with the same avatars are ruining avatars, TAKE THEM OFF"

But we don't because we got used to them and realize that you can't control what people do.

So we either have reps, partially have people whoring themselves for them (Read "B" to see how it helps in the long run) or we just not have any.

I associate good posters with their avatar/username since there are a few with no avatar. Let them exploit the repping system for what it is -- a popularity tally. I'd much rather this than an alternative of continuous thread starting, or some other half-baked idea to garner attention. It's some kind of placebo effect in a way.
