Last week I went on the craziest ride in North America. The new ride "Behemoth" in Canada's Wonderland has the fastest speeds and biggest drop (Pretty sure) for a roller coaster in North America. Scariest **** ever, but unbelievably fun. The 'filler' (Just slow, boring, small drops on most rides to take up time) had a bigger drop then anything else in the park.

Not worth dying for though.

Man I thought it was an accident. Bet you his parents will still try to sue the park for millions. Saying they could have had security there to stop their son from acting stupid. Or they could have built a higher fence

Wow I work at this same park in Mass. I have worked at that ride. I can't believe how dangerous those things are.

People are dumb to go into restricted areas, he probably dropped his phone or something I bet and wanted to recover it.

Cedar Park temporarily owned Wonderland, but they lost it (We're too much to handle baby!)

How can anyone roll their eyes to the parents trying to sue. Their son just got decapitated. That day is suppose to be a fun day for his FAMILY, the last thing they told him was probebly "are you hungry" or something like that, and then he dies. They didn't even get to say good bye, I realize it was a stupid move but you can't not feel sorry for the family.

I might have to try Wonderland one day. Cedar Point is starting to lose its zest after going there so often. We did go for Halloweekends last year and that was fun cuz it was something new.

I'm lost on how he was able to get killed. Was he searching for whatever he lost while the ride was stopped or currently in motion? Or did he mistime/misjudge the ride that stopped and overlooked when it was started up again...and by that time his fate was sealed?

This stuff happens in movies.

Apparently, from the news reports, the dude had to climb two security fences (one of which was six feet high) to put himself in harms way.

Honestly, if someone did not teach him the proper common sense, then I guess Darwin theory kicks in.

As heartbreaking as the story is, particularly to the family, I can assure you my young son knows not to try a stupid stunt like that.

Feeling sorry for the family vs justifying thier right to sue are two different things. Smarten up kid. They cant sue because they unfortunately lost thier loved one. Its something that sucks and you have to live with. That would sting me hard as a parent, but suing? Nah.

it's easy to dismiss his death as a case of stupidity on his part.. for all we know, he could have been a perfectly ok person but maybe dropped a $100 bill in the hat or something

no one is perfect, all of us must have done stupid things which could have been fatal, at some point of time in our lives. the only difference is,we got away

And he dropped his hat. And hopped two 6'+ fences with signage noting "restricted area, dangerous."

Hah, right.

The ride is just a hyper coaster with a chain lift. It's probably at most b/w 200 and 230 feet high, as opposed to the giga coaster with an elevator cable lift with a drop of 300+ at speeds 90mph+, as opposed to the Behemoth's more than likely much less speed.

Trust me, that was baby compared to Millenium Force in Cedar Point. Shoot is probably just as tall as Magnum XL (which was built in the late 80's).

BTW, the tallest ones are Kingda Ka in New Jersey at 400+ ft and 125mph + speeds and Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point with 400+ft and 120mph+ speeds. These are launching coaster, although they use a whole new technology compared to the LIM launched technology.

I wish I would have the opportunity to go to Cedarpoint to ride those rides. I'm fascinated by any rollercoaster (which is why I want to design them in the future). The elevator cable lift hill was genius. The engineer that came up with that idea was very bright. I guess when a coaster is 300ft+ you have to come up with ideas to get the car to the top faster, otherwise having a chain lift would discourage people from getting on it.

What I meant for that paragraph that I got scorched for is that the family is in obviouse shock, not to mention has the worst psychological feeling of their life, their bound to do something. We know they shouldn't sue, but you shouldn't be surprised that their suing, we all know they shouldn't win, and that it's not the best thing to do, but it'll probebly happen. Just don't roll your eyes to it and think "Wow how selfish are they" or something like that.

Well, I wasn't sure 100%, but I did know that it was up there. It has a drop of 230 feet and max speed of 125, so it isn't anything to skip. It may be less then that giga coaster thing but it's still a crazy ride.

You are delusional if you don't think Disney World and Disney Land (I've been to both) aren't geared towards kids. Cedar Point is not for kids. All the rides, which make Cedar Point famous kids can't even ride. They have 17 rollers coasters, including 3-4 of the scariest on Earth. It is rightfully the rollercoaster capital of the world.

Cedar Point also has the Top Thrill Dragster. Only a 17 second ride, as it is just a shot to the top of a 400+ foot hill (I think?) and then the trip downward.

Half the time, though, it's not working. Also, there are times when the cart cannot make it up to the top of the hill.

The line for this ride is sometimes 2-3 hours long, but well worth it.

It's over so quickly, that there is no time to realize your fear.

The scary part of the whole experience is sitting there at the bottom ready to go. They give you a lot of time to contemplate the decision you just made. You are looking up at the top of the hill, which is seemingly up in the clouds, blowing around in the wind, and you think to yourself, "sh!t, what did I get myself into?" Your heart starts beating really fast, hands get sweaty from holding onto the hand grips, and you just wait it out........

At six flags in Arlington, TX (right next to ballpark in arlington), there is a ride called "The Titan" and has a LARGE drop and achieves a high velocity around 80mph and as you're going up the hill, you look to the left and you can see into the ballpark in arlington and the whole time you're thinking, "oh sh!t oh f*ck oh sh!t oh f*ck f*ck me f*ck me" Then you go down, open your eyes, go down another long hill and do a few loops and you're done. Worst part about it is the line is so long that you almost always have to piss by the time you get up to your turn with that bar rammed into your bladder shooting you up 400 feet at 124 mph.

Many times.

Vortex and Beast (wooden coaster) are the best coasters there. Their top coasters don't compare to the top coasters at Cedar point, but they are still pretty good.

There is also the son of beast, which is also a wooden coaster, but I personally don't like it because it shakes you around too much.

You should also do the Xtreme skyflier. They strap you in and you free fall 17 stories.

I rode freeze once. Didnt like it. You start out immediately going 60 mph. I got really pale when I rode it.

I remember the first time I went to six flags with intent on riding a lot of coasters I got really dizzy when I got home. That's the ONLY bad thing about riding roller coasters if you dont ride them so often.

I go to Kennywood 2 or 3 times a year and it really isn't anything special. It is fun to go with a group of friends and hang out for the day but if you are going for the rides you will be dissapointed. The Phantom's Revenge is the best coaster there. The Pitt Fall is fun the first time but you only get a thrill out of it once. It does give a nice view when you are at the top though. There are some ok wooden coasters and the Exterminator is somewhat desecent.

I love Mr. Freeze. I love watching the people's faces when they take off. The last time I was at the Six Flags near St. Louis they had it shut down and was majorly p*ssed.

Batman is a pretty fun ride in it's own right. I was there a few years ago and the place was deserted for some reason, and me and my girl at the time got to ride it five times in a row (and rode in different seats each time of course. Front row on the ends is money). We were feeling pretty run down after we got off of it. :oldlol:

I really need to get to Cedar Point some time soon. It really wouldn't be that far of a drive from where I live. The bad part, however, is that many of my close friends aren't that big of fans of coasters.

:oldlol: I've never thought about that, but it would definitely ruin everyone's fun day at the park. The bad thing is sitting up front wouldn't eliminate the problem because so many of these rides now have parts where you're going backwards. I don't know what would be worse, seeing it coming and then getting hit or having it come from behind.

I guess I'm in the minority. I stay far away from roller coasters because heights are my number one fear. Damn, what a tragic death though.

Ditto. I went on the weakest coaster and I felt like It was gonna break down. The people that run those things make the average ISH poster look like a genius.

Behemoth lines are huge, but the wait is very small. The line up goes all the way out to Sledge Hammer (If you remember what that is) and that is a good 50 meters away from the original starting line up point for Behemoth.

BUT

The train takes something like 34 people at a time and there are three trains so in a couple minutes, thats 112 people ahead of you gone. It's a small wait, compared to the hugeness of the line.

Yeah, they renamed everything because it used to be Paramount, but then got bought out by Cedar Point (Gay) and at the moment, doesn't really belong to anyone I think. Everytime it changes companies, they take their rights to the names as well which is extremely retarded.

I am going to Kennywood here in Pittsburgh in a few weeks for the first time. If any posters here have ever been there and could recommend some rides, I'd appreciate it.
Went to kennywood last year...didnt like it at all.

I love Mr.

Yeah, I've been to that park. Went on a class field trip a few years back in 8th grade. Same thing for me. The park was pretty empty by amusement park standards and I got to ride a bunch of coasters like 3 times. I don't remember a Mr Freeze there when I went though. Is that relatively new?

They shut that down?!

I was only there a while ago and I had no idea that they closed it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's only been there for a few years. It's one of the newer rides there.

The split second you're hanging up there waiting to come back down backwards is awesome.

Mr. Freeze at the Six Flags in Dallas is the ONLY roller coaster that has ever made me sick. Thing ruined my entire trip there. It was the second ride i went on and I couldn't eat or ride anythign the rest of the entire day

Check out the kings island page where they list the good stuff:

http://www.pki.com/attractions/category.cfm?ac_id=18

The lines are much, MUCH shorter than at Cedar Point, and you will have no problem doing everything that you want to do, perhaps even more than once.

Son of Beast is a monster.

I'm a bit remorseful at the engineers that designed Son of Beast since I use to want to be the first to ever be able to design a successful looping wooden coaster.

I've never been on these rides but I watch them on tv and research them on the net. Wood is probably my favorite type ride. I love the rattling and the beating you take on these rides. As the ride ages, the ride tends to get better except for a select few like the Texas Giant.

I wonder if there is a limit to how high a rollercoaster can be before its impossible or wouldnt be approved by whomever decides its safe.

The wooden Mean Streak can be a little rough at Cedar Point.

Hell yeah. I think the only reason people still get on it is because there's hardly ever anything even close to a line. When we went in October there were about 15-20 people in line. The walk to the place where the line actually started was longer than the wait in line

If his family sues which they may, I hope they get kicked out of the court and forced to pay any legal fees for the theme park.

I don't wish to see a ridiculous award in a lawsuit, but I wouldn't want this either. "On Death and Dying" is a short book you should check out.

I think there should be a limit to how high a roller coaster can be. Coasters such as Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka (highest and fastest coasters in the world) have a high maintenance tag. Just getting those rides to the peak is hell at times. I know for a fact that Top Thrill Dragster had sensors along the rides launch and after each ride it would calculate the average weight of the cars and through this information it would calculate how fast the next launch would be. Sometimes, the next cart would be heavier therefore causing a miscalculation and the ride wouldn't make it to the peak and come back down or in rare cases it balanced and got stuck at the peak.

These rides are some of the safest machines built in the world, but as engineers we can not keep testing faith. The g's on such rides would be incredible causing certain unhealthy individuals health problems.

This of course an opinion and I'm sure someone will attempt to get to 500 feet some day. Honestly though, I think quality is compromised when building such huge rides, meaning the ride just has one motion and doesn't have any loops, no corkscrews, no banked curves, nothing just a simple up and down ride.
