Since it seems there are not too many guys who know a lot about boxing here, I decided to create yet another thread on one og boxings greats.

"The Baddest Man on the Planet" was the most intimidating fighter of his generation. One of the most intimidating fighters of all time. I really think he had the potential to go down as one of the greatest heavy weights of all time if he had his mind right. He could have been 2nd greatest heavyweight boxer of all time behind Ali. Very quick, heavy heavy hands. Every jab, uppercut was timed perfectly. Everyone feared him in his prime. One of personal favs to watch when he was in his prime. Probably the most feared boxer that was out there bc of his ability in the ring andthe inbalance in his head.
Most known for Biting Holyfields ear off, his "I"m gonna eat your children" rant, and possibly the biggest upset in boxing histroy when he was defeated by Buster Douglas in Japan of 1990. But he should have been known for his doinance as a boxer
Michael Gerard "Mike" Tyson (born June 30, 1966) is a retired American boxer. He was the undisputed heavyweight champion and remains the youngest man ever to win and lose a world heavyweight title. Throughout his career, Tyson became well-known for his controversial behavior both inside and outside the ring.
Nicknamed "Iron Mike," and "The Baddest Man on the Planet," Tyson won his first 19 professional bouts by knockout, 12 in the first round.[citation needed] He unified the belts in the splintered heavyweight division in the late 1980s. Tyson was the undisputed heavyweight champion for over two years, before losing to 42-to-1 underdog Buster Douglas in 1990.
In 1992, Tyson was convicted of raping a woman, for which he served three years in prison. After being released from prison in 1995, he engaged in a series of comeback fights. He regained a portion of the heavyweight title, before losing it to Evander Holyfield in 1996 by an 11th round TKO. Their 1997 rematch ended in disqualification for Tyson after he bit off a portion of Holyfield's ear. He fought for a championship again at 35, losing by knockout to Lennox Lewis in 2002. Tyson retired from competitive boxing in 2005 after two consecutive knockout losses to journeymen Danny Williams and Kevin McBride.
Tyson declared bankruptcy in 2003, despite receiving over US$30 million for several of his fights and $300 million during his career.
Famous Quotes
"Lennox Lewis, I'm coming for you man. My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah!"
"My main objective is to be professional but to kill him."
"I want to rip out his heart and feed it to him [Lennox Lewis]. I want to kill people. I want to rip their stomachs out and eat their children."
On Razor Ruddock
"You're sweet. I'm going to make sure you kiss me good with those big lips. I'm gonna make you my girlfriend."
"You got nothing coming, man. I'm going to enjoy this fight."
After biting Holyfield he said, "This is my career. I have children to raise. I have to retaliate. He butted me. Look at me. My kids will be scared of me."
"I felt Holyfield was using his head illegally. I told the referee I wasn't getting any help, so I went back to the streets. I cannot defend it, but it happened."

Mike Tyson linked to drug gang slayings (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23956011-5012748,00.html)
FORMER heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has been linked to two murder plots involving a ruthless drug gang in his old neighbourhood.
Witnesses at the trial of Abubakr Raheem, an alleged getaway driver in two gang slayings, have testified Tyson was the person who funded one of the schemes.
In the other plot, Tyson was the potential target but was spared for religious reasons.
Tyson has denied knowing anything about the mayhem surrounding the gang but his name was mentioned several times during recent testimony.
Tyson's name emerged during an investigation of the Cash Money Brothers, a New York gang led by Damion Hardy and his brother Myron Hardy.
Police allege that when Myron Hardy was murdered in 1999 it sparked a bloodbath. Among those killed was Tyson's friend and bodyguard, Darryl Baum.
Evidence was given that Tyson, after learning Mr Baum had been killed, put out a contract on Damion Hardy.
Another witness described how, after word of the boxer's bounty spread, he overheard gang members saying Tyson needed to be "rubbed out".
"I said, 'That's outrageous,"' the witness recalled.
Later, the same witness said he and Raheem were with a group that spotted a car they believed was carrying Tyson.
One of the men wanted to kill the boxer but the idea was "squashed right there" because "Mike Tyson was a Muslim".
Closing the prosecution case yesterday Assistant US attorney Sean Haran reminded jurors that the "evidence was that Mike Tyson put up $US50,000 to kill" two men.
Tyson issued a statement calling the accounts "untrue".
He said he was "tired of people throwing my name around".

MT wuz easily one of my greatest influences of my infantile yearz. Him and the Bad-Boy Pistonz must've subconsciously toughened me up.
Dude packed so much raw power and couple that with hiz emotional intensity.
Anybody recall that story of how as a child, he was a sociopath, and he lost his beloved hawk... then proceeded to pound on the guy who did it, despite being undersized.
Between the tatz, the memorable quotes, and the phuckin brutality, I respect thiz man so much and I honestly never thought he was D.U.M.B, but rather had a unique way of expresing himself.
I think Foreman and Holmez are the only ones capable of hitting within 20 PSI of one of his full-fledged hookz.

YES, i do remember. He pounded the dude for it. Funny, i was gonna mention it in the thread but forgot to.
You have to respect the man as a boxer. Lots of people dont respect him bc of his outside the ring antics, but respect is deserved. He kind of reminds me of Dennis Rodman in a way. People will never truly respect what he did for the game and will always remember his off court drama when he should be remembered for his defensive intensity, 5 rings, and 18 freaken boards a game a couple of seasons.

Totally underestimated him. He was out partying it up, feeling invinsible. He never really trained for this fight. He was the heavy weight champ for 2 years and undefeated. He did not take this fight seriously and really that is why he was defeated.

Kind of like how Nique can still dunk, I bet that even "Pig Iron" Mike still packs a howitzer, and may have surprisingly quick hands. Your chances would improve with a longer fight, make him chase you if you have some endurance and by the 5th round on he'll have nothing. but if it's three rounds, you may find yourself forced to engage him to win on points, and he'd probably only have to tag you once.

Mike Tyson before his trainer died, was the greatest fighter of all time. Too bad he was a complete nut, and forgot everything he was taught. After his trainer died, he looked for quick knockouts in the first round which led him to wear out very early in the match.
My favorite boxer of all time along with Roy Jones.

Get your ass kicked for 10 grand by Tyson? He'd put you in a coma in his current form.

Lets think of a price tag that would make someone get in the ring. It has to be reasonable. You cant say "$20mil!". I was thinking say $75,000. Maybes thats too low. But lets come up with a price tag.
3 rounds. No more. You can train to get in shape/condition. Mike cant. He has to go in the ring as is. So you can prepare. No more than 3 months.
You can not take a dive for a quick payday. You dont get a penny. So no cheap stuff.
With that said do you like your chances or would you still fear his power and gracefully stay outside the ring? I'm signing up. I'm that confident. I can go/last 3 rounds with Mike dispite the weight/size difference.

Forgot everything he was taught? No he didnt. Mike is undisciplined. His trainer died and the first thing he did? Was listening to bad advice (forgot those two goofball names who was by his side) and got rid of damn good trainers. His lack of discipline was his downfall. Wreckless behavior outside the ring affected his performance training and in fights. He had no one he respected enough to listen too. Ground him. Send him back to reality. That was gone.
Get your ass kicked for 10 grand by Tyson? He'd put you in a coma in his current form.
Coma? Look at Mike. Piss poor shape, conditioning. How exactly does he put you in a coma unless you drop your hands and let him treat your face like a punching bag. :confusedshrug:

Quick hands. He is a pro. Trained for 20+ years. Like you said above, I chose the wrong words in saying he forgot everything. He lacked discipline after his trainer died, though was still one of the best trained fighters.
It's like me saying I could hold my own against Jordan at his age. He's not in tip top shape, though I'd get my ass handed to me.
I'm 6'4 and 235lbs, and I think I'd have a hard time lasting 3 rounds with Mike, even with training, which I already do.

No its not like saying you could hold your own vs MJ right now. :oldlol:
Look at Mike Tyson. When Mike Tyson trained to fight? He still couldnt go the distance. Thats why his whole gameplan was try and KO you within 3-4 rounds. After that? You saw what he did. Sucked wind and ate punches while trying desperately to throw that power punch. But he could never set it up.
Now look at Mike Tyson. He's FAT. And you being 6'4 235lbs? Please with training you could last 3 rounds with Mike Tyson. I would put cold cash on it. And I dont know you. But I do know I cant see Mike Tyson being able to get off a power shot at his size. He has alligator arms. All you have to do is box. No one is saying stand toe to toe and trade punches. Just box and move.
You think Mike is going to cut the ring off? He's gonna stabilize you with a jab? His haymaker which was inaccurate when he trained is ACCURATE now? Come on. Mike is not putting anyone in a coma. Now he may beat a few posters here given thier size, lack of heart and easily to be intimidated nature. But Mike is not killing anyone in the state he is in. Unless he eats them.
I bet if I told your trainer that you were afraid to step in the ring with Mike? He'd straight right hand you. No f*cking way at 6'4 235lbs with some training (and more training if u were to take him on in a real bout that i laid down up above). You cant LAST with Mike for 3 rounds. If yu got a glass jaw and he catches you? It would be .gif worthy of putting OWNED on it. But hey you'd be richer thats for sure! :oldlol:
F*ck it it I'll just speak for myself. I could last. Not KO'ing Mike. But lasting 3 rounds? I'm confident i can do it. At worst he catches me with a devasting bodyshot. And somehow i cant continue or he continues to pile up when I get up or whatever. I'll still collect the cash in the end. All I care about. I would sign a contract to fight mike for 3 rounds for a nice sum of money.
Wouldnt do it if he got in shape/trained for it tho. It has to be in the state (that photo and others) he is currently in! :applause:

There is a difference in being scared, and thinking its a difficult task. The guy has proved he is crazy, that is all I'm going to say. Now enough of me defending my manhood.
Tyson had one of the best jabs in boxing history, one of the most efficient defenses and you are false in thinking he couldn't last the fight. He was very well conditioned. Watch his tapes before his trainer died. Very well balanced fighter, who controlled the tempo of the fight and didn't just look for knockouts. Very methodical and well planned fighter.

lol. Mike is a fat slob now, but lets be real here. He had one of the heaviest hands in the game and was arguably the best in the world at a few points in his career. Saying you can "hang" or "last" with him with no formal training whatsoever is just crazy. He would put you to sleep. Unless you plan on running away the entire 3 rounds, then i find it highly highly unlikely you would be able to hang and exchange punches.
It takes a lot of training to undestand how to move and manuever in boxing. Its not easy and you cant just pick it up like that. One clean hit is all it will take from him. Lot more agility and balance required in boxing than most give credit for

Right now, he might be 270, outweighing me by 70 pounds. I couldn't stand in front of him at all, so if I tried to legitimately box with him I'd probably go down in the first two rounds. If I run around the ring like a chicken occasionally throwing a jab from the side it could last longer but it might well look like I didn't give an honest effort.

That's the thing though. His speed would be deceptive. You'd think a guy that size wouldn't be able to move well, though he'd surprise you. Plus he has one of the best jabs and quickest and heaviest hands ever. It's really not an easy task lasting the 3 rounds.

Y'know, if ISH could raise maybe $500 and some cheeseburgers, we could probably get this GOBB v. Tyson fight to happen.

With that said do you like your chances or would you still fear his power and gracefully stay outside the ring? I'm signing up. I'm that confident. I can go/last 3 rounds with Mike dispite the weight/size difference.
I've read your stats, dude would eat you for breakfast with nutella and milk while reading the papers. It would not be close.

I still don't believe that is Tyson...

Dasher proves prophetic. Tell me he doesn't look like one of those end of level bosses in a video game now, with the smokey stage and face tattoo and everything.
And now let's watch the dumbass "Would you fight Tyson?" bickering.
I can't believe this is really happening...:ohwell:
Mike is fat, yes...
George Foreman got fat too...
Mike Tyson would still destroy any single member of ISH in the ring in 1 round...PERIOD (assuming you actually tried to fight him and didn't run around in circles)
this is seriously ridiculous...
the guy puts on 50 or so pounds and suddenly any scrub off the street could kick his ass...???
*waits for RBA to step in and let people know that Mike was never a top 100 boxer

Me and Mike are both insane, so whoever dies first (me) will win.

Even if you run around the ring, one bull rush by Tyson and you are done. He is a fighter, you may be smarter then him, but he is a smarter fighter, he knows how to get the job done. He's gone against all different types of fighters and beaten most of them. He's going to find a way to beat some guy of the street with 3 months of training.

You're out of your mind. I don't care if you got 3 months of training and fought Tyson right after Thanksgiving dinner. Unless you are a 250 pound bouncer at the "Seven-Hundred Club", you wouldn't last 3 rounds period.

Mike Tyson's great defense.
The video claims Mike Tyson had the best defense in the whole of heavyweight history. I wonder what boxing historians would say about that.
Tyson's meteoric rise, came about because they deliberately paired him with slow heavyweights who couldn't hurt him and who would easy targets for his heavy hands.

Looked around the web for a bit and prime Tyson's defense was well respected.
Someone had him at #3 defensive all-time ahead of Ali.

Also looking around the web, saw the video of the end of the Tyson Douglass fight. Before the knockout Tyson's left eye was swollen up as a result of taking Buster's jabs all night. Then I read this on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyson_vs._Douglas.
In the middle rounds Tyson managed to land a few of his signature uppercuts, but Douglas was still dominating the fight. Tyson's left eye began to swell from Douglas' right hands, and his corner was not equipped with an end-swell (http://www.universalselfdefence.com.au/products/surgical_steel_enswell/860/1). Instead, they filled a rubber glove with ice water and held it on Tyson's eye between rounds.
That has to be one of the biggest mistakes in sports.

Tyson was a great fighter no doubt.
That said I think he's vastly overrated. 2nd best HW?
