Don't be too mad RBP the Trailblazers are gonna be in Seattle in a couple of years.

Not going to happen. Paul Allen just purchased the Rose Garden. Then he invested millions of dollars to update it. Nobody would buy the Rose Garden from him if they think it may influence him to bolt the city. So pretty much he would have to buy another stadium in Seattle and end up owning 2 stadiums. He's rich, but he is also a businessman and that would just make him lose a TON of money. If he were to move to Seattle, it wouldn't be for another 10-20 years so he can get his money's worth out of the Rose Garden.

Don't be too mad RBP the Trailblazers are gonna be in Seattle in a couple of years. Not gonna happen.

• It will cost millions to break the lease that Paul Allen just bought for 15 years at the Rose Garden

• Fans here love the new team. Arena is filled on a nightly basis and it's loud!

• Seattle needs a new arena which will cost Paul Allen a whole lot more money including breaking his current lease. The people of Seattle don't want to contribute.

• Paul Allen just bought the largest scoreboard screen in the NBA for the Rose Garden and some updates to the Arena. It's sweet!

Just doesn't make sense to move when there is so much excitement here in Portland now and revenue is up. Plus for all the reasons above.

Not gonna happen.

My sympathy also goes out to the original poster & to all sonic fans!!!

They aren't one of my favourites, but this is down right wrong. How can you allow a franchise with that much history to walk?

When I lived in Vancouver, they let the Grizzlies go to Memphis...which hurt big time, this is like 1,000 times worse@!! Fcuk David Stern and the ******* who sold the team to this bastard in the first place.

Just for the record, Vancouver always had a better attendance record than Memphis.

BTW, this will hurt many Canadians as well...who would make the 2+ hour drive down to Seattle to watch some NBA. For the past several seasons I've been driving out atleast four times a year. Where the fu(k do I go now? Portland's too far.

One thing I know is, even with that sorry ass line-up last year...the fans were passionate about their team and always let the away team hear how they felt.

Can someone briefly explain why the sonics couldn't just keep playing in the old arena? Or was that the owner's original plan? Make a pitch for a new stadium and if the city doesn't allow it, than that's his reason to leave?

I keep thinking to myself...Key Arena was a nice stadium. I mean, if Key Arena is all you know and you've never been to another venue...you wouldn't know any better. I guess it's all about the $$$ in the end.

What can we, as fans, do to David Stern? It would be nice to see other fans in different cities support Seattle, by holding up signs calling for Stern's job(during game's of course)...

i dont know what team to which youre refering:confusedshrug:

here is a tidbit from art thiel of the seattle pi:

As has been written here before, the biggest culprits in this deal have been the NBA and former owner Howard Schultz. However unfairly, the mess they created fell to the city and the business community to clean up. But by neglecting to put more resources in front-end imagination instead of back-end litigation, the game was lost.
Bennett is still a liar, Stern is still unconscionably remorseless, and the Sonics are gone

It must burn like crazy that David Stern and Clay Bennett were right! This team is now 10 times better than anything Seattle had produced in recent memory and more importantly the city and the fans are 10 times better for this team. The OKC fans are insane! Nothing like the boring Sonics fans.

Better fans, better sports town, better team, better arena. What a win it was for the move in hindsight and oh how WRONG the people were who said the move would end in disaster.

Better team?

You don't remember the '96 Sonics? Payton, Hawkins, Schrempf, Kemp, Perks

:oldlol: Clearly you just started watching basketball.
The Sonics were dominant in '96 before having to face the 72-10 Chicago Bulls.
The city and the fans are not 10 times better. If you watch any Seattle Sonics game around 90s, you would seen how great these fans were. Sonics fans will be just as or more crazy than OKC fans if the team hasn't been moved.
When Oklahoma City Thunder struggle for 5 consecutive years, lets see how excited the fans in OKC will be. :oldlol:

As much as I will root for any team to beat the Lakers and as much as I like some of their players, I was dreading a posting just like this!!! You blew all your credibility by opening your statement by saying that Stern and Bennett were right. Better sports town? Better than Seattle??? Whatever. Disaster??? I've never said it would end in disaster....think some of us Pacific North Westers were WISHING failure upon the Blunder, but not predicting it.

Have you ever heard of some guys by the names of Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Detlef Shrempf, Nate McMillan..........never mind, I've got a feeling I'm wasting my time here.:banghead:
