It looks like this will be the new name of the OKC team will be the Oklahoma City Barons.

I remember seeing it was now down to the Barons & Thunder.

It is the color scheme that's gaining steam for the uniforms of Oklahoma City's prospective NBA franchise

In America a Baron is a person who makes cash via investment, most typically land/real estate investment. Although the connection here may be more towards gold or oil prospecting.

I've always believed Seattle had the worst uniforms in the NBA,Green/Yellow just doesn't work for me it's always ugly no matter what.

This is why the KD merchandise isn't selling because Green/Yellow is unattractive and doesn't look good unless with Green/Yellow and when it matches you look stupid.

Black/Gold definetly is a better color scheme, but I'd rather them have Black/Red since no team in the NBA currently has the colors.:confusedshrug:

Theres no point in going to Blue because every variation of blue is being done in the NBA.

Bobcats is a terrible name. Has anyone ever seen a Bobcat? I use to live in the country and I saw them all the time. They are essentially slightly larger cats.... they typically run from humans. Not exactly a ferocious mascot. Might as well called them the Charlotte Kittens.

Outlaws would have been better. It would fit that biker scene down in Oklahoma real well. Obviously Barrons has no connection to the city, as previously mentioned. Atleast, Outlaws would have some connection plus it sounds more badass. And plus it carries the Supersonic theme over to their new city by picking a team name that begins with the same letter as the city's name begins with. It just sounds better that way. I guess that makes sense but it's still all wrong because it only suits the owner. It's not like Oklahoma produces as much oil as others states do. That Texas tea runs rampant in other states more so than Oklahoma. But if that's what the owner wanted to do, so be it. I assume that if he was from Australia and made his money in breeding Kangaroos, the new NBA team name would be the Oklahoma City Kangaroos.

Maybe I am an idiot but what is a Baron?

Robber baron was a term revived in the 19th century in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) as a pejorative reference to businessmen and bankers who dominated their respective industries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industry) and amassed huge personal fortunes,

typically as a direct result of pursuing various anti-competitive or unfair business practices (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unfair_business_practices). The term may now be used in relation to any businessman or banker who is perceived to have used questionable business practices or scams in order to become powerful or wealthy.

no a baron is an appointed position of nobility. like a count or a duke. really though its referring to cattle barons, or oil barons. I think it should be the thunderbirds since OK is Indian Territory and still has tons of viable native american communities. the barons is stupid.

i think that thunderbird is bennetts favorite drink

I guess if it was between the Barons and the Thunder i'd pick the Barons, I guess the colors are tight, black and gold, it'll look tight I guess, and the jersey looks pretty nice too, so its gonna be the Oklahoma City Barons.

That, plus it's Oklahoma we're talking about. The tribes currently there stole the land from other Injuns.

People are retarded! Blazers are black and red idiots!

Anyways those jerseys are ugly. I hate the lettering. Barons sounds to me like they should be in Texas instead.

Thunder or Cyclones would've been better.

The alternate jersets (mostly gold) will look a lot like the wizzards gold jerseys.

so basically the okc "warriors"

no, a baron is a term for nobility or at least or at least member of the ruling class.

it would be disgusting for a team to adopt this name

besides, whats all this nonsense about changing the name? is there not a stickied topic at the top of the forum making it clear the name will stay?

now that they got an NBA team the sky is the limit for that city

 what a laughable naive sentiment wtf

Blow me

lol my bad i just hate this Bennet guy they actually passed a law for higher taxes in a badly poverty stricken area to get an NBA team there that will just end up like Memphis and Charlotte

bringin an nba team to the area is not going to change the direction of the city IMO

Reread the topic title. "Sonics will move to OKC for 2008-09 season. Sonics name stays with Seattle"

If they pick Barons, they're just setting themselves up to be called the Robber Barons by bitter Supersonic fans who know their U.S. history. Like I predicted, RanierBeachPoet already likes the term. Go figure.

Not a good name in my opinion.

thats Fing lame why would you change the name OKC Sonics rolls off the tounge

if they go with the barons they will be my least favorite team in the entire league. thats nonsense why would anyone ever chose that name.

stern and bennett are friends theres damn emails where bennet asks for stern to take care of this the NBA is so corrupt

lakers and celtics a coincidence? please.

They should've kept the name Sonics. Not Supersonics. Just Sonics.

Sonics >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Starbucks.

I like the jerseys. Nice colors and a unique font. If Seattle gave as much a damn for the Sonics as they do a for a crappy team like the Mariners they would still be there. But at least the MLS is coming.

Men like Jay Gould (http://www.raken.com/American_wealth/encyclopedia/profile.asp?code=1041), Jim Fisk and Russell Sage (http://www.raken.com/American_wealth/encyclopedia/profile.asp?code=2092) became known as the archetypes of the robber barons, preying on their fellow citizens to extort their money in devious Wall Street speculations or corporate coups.

i would add the name clay bennett as the 21 csnt archetype of the
OKC (robber)Barons

My friend came over to watch UFC 86 and he said he thought they were naming them the Thunder.

I refuse to support that organization. If I could make arraignments to have them excluded from my eventual copy of NBA 2K9 I would do so.

Knowing 2ksports I like the chances of the Sonics still bening in 2k9.

Nope as long as they can get everything finished before they finalize the game the OKC Barons will be in NBA 2K9.

Only time you'll see the Sonics is when you see their jerseys as a throwback jersey for OKC.

Oklahoma City Barons or Outlaws are the best.

Enough naming teams after ****ing animals please.
