MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Musician Isaac Hayes died early Sunday morning, according to Shelby County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Steve Shular.
A Shelby County sheriff's deputy responded to Hayes' home after his wife found him on the floor near a treadmill inside his home.

Somebody get Undercover Brother in here. This is obviously a conspiracy, losing Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes right after each other, and Morgan Freeman still recovering. R.I.P.
We should probably go kill a couple white people for the next couple days to even things out though.

R.I.P. to a true music legend. The summer after I graduated high school me and some friends used to drink and play cards in our apartment and his song "Do Your Thing" was always on the play list.

I'd just like to let you know that you're a very ****ty gimmick. Please put more effort into your trolling. At least make it somewhat memorable or entertaining. What you're doing here is pure unadulterated garbage.

Thats a damn shame, more my mothers generation obviously (shes upset about the death), but I still appreciated his music and what he's done in his career.
Too many lives being cut short at once :(
Life has many faces, and it's ugly face has reared the last few days.

oh man, this is horrible news. 'walk on by' is truly one of my favourite tracks of all time. just the most epic, funky track i've ever heard. a true legend of the music industry, he will be missed for both his comedic acumen (for agreeing to do an underground show like south park) and musical genius.
RIP

no he really isn't. Do you really think that they could find another guy who looks exactly like paul , plays the bass left handed like paul , talks like paul etc. etc.

I never watched south park but had no idea he played a character. Did he sound like himself as "Chef"? Was he cursing and stuff?

interesting short interview (https://www.yahoo.com/music/isaac-hayes-didnt-quit-south-park-son-says-225624787.html) with his son.
if you remember all the ruckus when hayes quit south park because it had poked fun at scientology, apparently it was all kind of bogus... it wasn't actually of his own doing.
almost completely obvious in hindsight, but nice to have another confirmation that scientology is one of the most evil orgs in existence, and "evil" is a word i seldom throw around.

Who's the black private dick (NOTE: dick = detective from back in the day)
That's a sex machine to all the chicks? (Shaft!)
[Haha, you're damn right, baby]
Who is the man
Risks his neck for his brother man? (Shaft!)
[Can ya dig it?]
Who's the cat that won't cop out
When there's danger all about (Shaft!)
[Right on...]
You see this cat Shaft is a bad mother
(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' about SHAFT!
(Ooh, then we can dig it)
He's a complicated man
But no one understands him,
but his woah-maan (Oooh.... Shaft!)

i'm just getting started on it... pretty fascinating stuff, thanks!
hard to believe there was no primetime animated show other than the simpsons at that point. also kind of interesting in that simpsons season nine was pretty much the last great season, but then south park starts up right about that same year and the torch is safely passed.
hard to think of another show that combined such lowbrow humor with such cutting cultural commentary. if only the show had a spiritual successor of sorts... altho maybe there's something really good out there i'm unaware of. :S
EDIT: cool article. as long as it was, it still felt like it was just hitting the tip of the iceberg. i actually haven't watched the show in years, but behind-the-scenes stuff is always interesting to me.
i think my biggest quibble with the show is that trey and matt relied on their own voices too much. it makes every other character sound the same, so to speak. i get that they wanted to make the show as distinct from the simpsons as possible, and i get that the whole concept is 'two overgrown teenagers animating bits of paper in their garage, doing their own voiceovers'.
but still, voice work is clearly their worst skill by miles and probably hurts the show more than it helps by making it sound so monotone. they really could have used a couple simpsons / futurama-level people to give the show a little more depth.
still... pretty minor quibble in the scheme of things.
EDIT EDIT: guess i'll take this comment over to the main thread...
