Why do some guys won't defend in basketball?

This might be NBA related although I'm talking more about outside the NBA.

In my rec games, we have this guy who when defending people, will give him 2 feet of space before lazily move forward and don't even put up his hand.

We have another guy who can leap very high and would get plenty of rebounds but won't challenge shots when a guard slips by. He could be a decent rim protector/help defender but just won't do it.

Because they're lazy fvcks that's why

I mean, it's not lack of motivation since they seem to be very motivated on offense and are fighting for rebounds

When i had shit stamina i used to not play defense to conserve energy for offense

This exactly. That's what I do.

To save energy becos every body wanna be a scoring killer like Bron nowadays nobody wants to player defense too just one side of the ball

Came to say something similar. Hate being drained on offense, it affects every aspect of your game.

I assume it's because most people aren't great shooters so they are likely to miss and you get the rebound. Just gotta defend around the basket.

i dont think leaping high has much to do with defense... IQ, general length, and willpower have more to do with it. look at tim duncan.
