The original was a perfect storm that rode off of peak Jordan popularity and Jordan completing his second 3peat years after the release of that movie helped it age better. Other than that it was literally just a big long-running commercial, I remember my dad half-jokingly saying the most unrealistic part of this movie is Jordan being cool with staying in a Motel 6 eating McDonald's.

they had some appeal for my inner child like basketball does
