1993 East Conference MVP: Jordan OR Pippen
Had NBA were giving out Conference MVPs back in 1993....
Who would you vote for as a East Conf MVP?
JORDAN -vs- PIPPEN
Game 1: 27/2/4/4 @ 37%FG -vs- 24/4/4/4 @ 42%FG. LOSS
Game 2: 36/9/1/2 @ 38%FG -vs- 17/8/4/2 @ 58%FG. LOSS
Game 3: 22/8/11/2@ 17%FG -vs- 29/4/4/0 @ 83%FG. WIN
Game 4: 54/6/2/2 @ 60%FG -vs- 13/7/4/1 @ 29%FG. WIN
Game 5: 29/10/14/2@46%FG -vs- 28/11/1/2@52%FG.WIN
Game 6: 25/2/9/3 @ 33%FG -vs- 24/6/7/2 @ 50%FG. WIN
Jordan UNDERperformed.
Pippen OVERperformed.
Jordan has breakthrough 54 pt game followed by Career's most important 30/15 triple double game. (29/14 actually!)
Pippen FG% was incredible. Pippen hitting 50%FG was like a lottery. He did it 4 times in this series. But never broke 30 pts in a game.
Jordan went in opposite direction. Rarely see MJ shoot Less than 40%FG and he did it 4 times.
Just goes to show how ATG this 1993 NYK team was winning 60 games and should've won the 1993 Championship vs 1993 Suns.
Re: 1993 East Conference MVP: Jordan OR Pippen
Pippen was for sure the MVP in that closeout game.
Re: 1993 East Conference MVP: Jordan OR Pippen
3 Ball has always avoided this series like the plague :oldlol:. Pippen was on one in this series :oldlol:. This was peak pip
Re: 1993 East Conference MVP: Jordan OR Pippen
Full Series Averages

Jordan: 32.2/6.2/7.0 on 52.2 %TS (+1.8 rTS) with 2.3 topg
Pippen: 22.5/6.7/4.0 on 57.3 %TS (+6.9 rTS) with 4.0 topg
I'd go with Jordan. Pippen may have outplayed him in Game 3 and Game 6 but not over the course of the entire series. Jordan created a ton more and had very low turnovers. Pippen scored more efficiently but at much lower volume and benefitted from the attention that MJ got from defenses.

I think its Jordan too...... by a hair length.
That 54 Pts masterclass followed by almost 30pts 15 assist ZERO TO as they "escaped from NY" in Game 5.
those 2 games were just too much for Pippen to overcome imo.
Also, Pippen always plays better "at home"
That Game 5 decided if Bulls gonna win series or go home, No 3-peat.
Jordan came up too big in Game 5, Played a brilliant Triple Double 30/15 game with ZER0 TO.

you guys are dumb af
Pippen was unguarded just like his book's title, and he only got automatic system points or transition.. He commanded zero defensive attention or double-teams, and he was never asked to iso his man.. He wasn't on the scouting report because defenders didn't have to close out on him or double-team him.. They could sag off into the paint and clog Jordan's drives...
A defender's only guidance regarding Pippen was to get back on defense, which all coaches tell their teams.. Pippen was simply a system robot that required no attention or planning - his low peak capability wasn't a threat to go off... He has 6 thirty point playoff games in 218 games, so he wasn't a threat..
Most players could barely scrape 20 ppg if they were unguarded and were in a system as 2nd option.. Pippen was just lucky that his weak stats landed next to the goat, so he could be inflated to all-time status.. He couldn't average 15 ppg outside the system and was mostly a dunker.

If you asked this question in the 90's, you would get taken for a mental checkup - fans didn't think Pippen was that good and didn't respect him.
Most fans didn't know that he was getting All-NBA awards every year from a tiny cabal of media and they would've been very surprised to find that out.. Media awards are the worst way to determine how good someone was..
Pippen was known as a bricklayer and historic choker during his prime, and he had the worst shooting splits that anyone ever had on a playoff run during the 96' and 98' playoffs - so MJ won with the biggest bricklayer and lane-clogger of all-time.
The idea of Pippen leading a series over Jordan was insane and it would be less insane to say the 09' Cavs were led in a series by Mo Williams.. THAT'S how fans thought about Pippen in the 90's.
Re: 1993 East Conference MVP: Jordan OR Pippen
Definitely Pippen. He stepped up in the two biggest games of the series, while outside of Game 4 Jordan averaged a pathetic 28 points on 25 shots and 47%TS.
All around Pippen > Iverson for 5/6 games in the series
Re: 1993 East Conference MVP: Jordan OR Pippen
Obviously Jordan. Anyone saying otherwise is a Bronie fluffer, and we all know about their IQ.
No question Pippen was instrumental in that series though.

Pippen is usually ordinary. he overperformed a little. thats about it.
That Game 5 MJ masterclass of 30 pts triple double on the road with 0 TO is the reason bulls won that series after going down 0-2.

PPG in Regular Season vs Knicks compared to Playoffs vs Knicks
Cartwright..... 4.2 in RS..... 6.2 in PO
Grant.......... 11.9 in RS..... 9.8 in PO
Pippen'........ 17.3 in RS... 22.5 in PO
BJ............... 10.8 in RS... 10.8 in PO
So the Bulls' cast was at capacity next to Jordan, which meant that Jordan's stats and volume was needed.. The 54 was needed.
Pippen had horrific series against the Knicks in 89' and 92', so the Knicks weren't guarding him in 93'... Yet he still had 4.0 TO's and 4 APG, and nothing in the 4th.

Pippen. Most successful player in the 90s and never missed the playoffs each year during the decade.
