Quick! The Warriors need offense w/out Curry; who do you put in?
Kerr's answer to that is: Pat Spencer and Brandon Podziemski.

Result they go 6-20 and we lose by 25 points.
Not going to win like that.
People focus on player decisions for a loss; but we have to focus on coaching decisions as well.
The Warriors have a deadly 3 point shooting threat - Buddy Hield. Hield is a legitimate, proven scorer and whatever petty criticisms (including some I have made myself) pale in comparison to the offensive threat he represents.
As a reminder Hield is a career 40% 3 PT shooter. Very few players can boast that.
He has put in the work in off-season and is in peak conditioning.
He is ready to go.

So you don't play him behind a guy like Pods who is a defensive liability and a limited scorer and a guy like Pat Spencer who really should be in the 3rd unit. In Kerr's head, scrappiness = victory; and I can only imagine the luxury of winning is encouraging thinking like this, where the more counterintuitive it is, the more you can invoke your history of winning to justify.
Separately, I didn't watch closely Kuminga closely- but I would think he should get up more than 10 shots in Curry's abscence. Pat Spencer and Pods should not be hoisting up as many shots as your top offensive player on the floor.
The NBA is a highly competitive league with very little margin for error.

Watching the game- the 2nd unit and guys like Kuminga broke the defense, by standing in the middle of nowhere, refusing to guard their man, leaving the perimeter unguarded. Flying around after they pass to the open man doesn't work in the NBA. That's why you figure out your assignment and keep it.

Is Pod a baller or no? He seems streaky

In my view, he is a solid person to lead the 2nd unit. Not the first unit. He is a decent ball handler and distributor.
He does not have great offensive moves to create. He is not a brilliant passer. He is absolutely a liability on defense, despite the fact he is putting in effort on that side.
He is a hustle player - in fact he reminds me a bit of Barbarossa who GSW had lead the 2nd unit many years ago. Although Barbarossa had more offensive moves. Both players are well-rounded and hustle players- well equipped to lead 2nd unit.
The Warriors are deep at the guard position. I personally think Kerr is living vicariously through Pods, as the player he might have been- in terms of being well-rounded and elevating him beyond what's reasonable.

Yeah, but they were playing the Nuggets. Curry played last game and he ended the second worst on the team with -23, they ended the 3rd quarter losing by 35 and the game by 24 bc OKC stopped playing. Curry makes no difference at all, hell, he even made them worse...
