Been getting a lot of feedback lately about people not liking current NBA basketball

What do you guys think of it? Specifically, the rules and how they're enforced or not enforced. At a glance, this game is as different from prior decades as it has ever been. Step counts have been vaguely 3-5 allowed with a ridiculously late 'gather', off arms are now the norm if you are dribbling as far as stiff arming, grabbing or hooking a defender goes, and this year I heard a new rule change was even after a shot is released if the defensive player makes contact with the shooters hand this is somehow now a foul? Plus the moving screens are now normal. I remember must have been over 5 seasons ago now that off-ball contact and hand-checking was finally removed as well so you can't chase a cutter with contact now.

It's a very different looking game than even 15 or 20 years ago now. Let alone, 30 40 etc. What do you guys think of it? I feel like it's hard to even explain the rules now because they often don't even seem consistent about steps and whatnot it looks like they're all still figuring out what the right amount is now. I get a lot of feedback on my youtube channel that many people think the league has gone way too far with opening offense and restricting defense.

not a fan in the slightest. the art of the game is gone, it's just cheap entertainment.

I dont have much of a problem with where the game is right now in terms of play style, but I think the NBA makes a lot of decisions around the delivery of the product that cheapens the quality of the experience in order to draw out more money from the casual viewer who doesnt know the difference.

The biggest one is continued permission of load management, which is now just disguised with bogus temporary pretend injuries instead of outright calling it rest, and the related issue of an unnecessarily long schedule that cheapens the value of each game.

And a separate issue of owners being cucked to players and shackling their teams with bad contracts because theyre afraid of fan backlash if they dont max out Zach Lavine or Bradley Beal. Or they let guys like Embiid and Simmons throw in the towel and still collect paychecks.

And then some smaller things that arent coming to mind right now but that I occasionally notice.

Too many players are pu$$y.
But this is a societal problem too.
So I’ll stick to strictly on court critiques.

I’m not that impressed by most of the recent and upcoming draft classes. Especially the lack of truly top shelf domestic talent. It’s why they’re looking overseas so much.

Gather ruling is being abused by some players.
Getting away with travels and carries.
Too many charges.
Too many goal tending calls.
Unless the ball is clearly on the way down,
catching it at the peak, even the end of the peak, should be a good block.




Still calling too many rip thru’s (should be embarrassing no calls)

Still calling too many shooting fouls on lean-ins (should be embarrassing no calls)

Still allowing offensive players to extend/push off too much.
Shoulder and hip are fine, but no arm extension like Shai.

Kawhi, Embiid, AD being cripples that never play.
and they still making $50million a year.
Ticket prices far too high to allow real fans to attend.
Bunch of phony fans in corporate suites.
Real working class people should be visible on TV, going apesh!t.

Not enough dunks.
Not enough violent dunks.
Could use a few actual fights.
If you pu$$y, and you talk heavy shit, the dude punching you in the face should only get ejected and suspended 1 game. Not half the season. Reserve those suspensions for psychopaths punching someone who isn’t being a little sh!t taking a$$wipe.

I have never seen basketball fans more SCARED of their players like the sheer fear and loathing people have towards Draymond Green. These are scared suburbanites who because they feel fear, try to tear down players at every opportunity. Similar attitudes persist against people like LeBron, Isiah Stewart - and others.

His seemingly conflicted nature is due to insecurity, and trying to seem tougher than the 6'7" 260 lb player who he feels threatened by. He fears every tough hit by someone that doesn't look like himself and cheers on every cheap shot hit committed by someone who looks like him.

[B]So you see the hypocritcal cowardice of your average American fan.[/B] Such fans are fine at looking at the PAST and tough players back then like Rodman and Mahorn, but discuss a similar player today, they suddenly become negative, feverishly trying to defend their threatened masculinity.

Due to fragility and the rise of alt-righters, fans have become increasingly race-conscious. What the league has done wisely is give favoritism to players like Sengun who is moving on every screen and Doncic who is shooting about 50% more FT's than SGA (14 a game).

Doncic can jump backwards into a defender and go the line. Meanwhile it has tried to coddle "scared" alt-right fans by being over-the-top in warning and suspending players like Green.

As for fans complaining about not allowing defense, remember this is the same fairy that is ready to call the police when Isaiah Stewart or Draymond shuts a player down with physicality. And certainly when they commit a hard foul.

The same kind of foul that Mahorn and the Pistons used to do every game and be a common foul. [B]It is just simply Toughness Posturing of the average out-of-shape threatened fan[/B], trying to seem tougher than the players he's afraid of or that triggers his sense of fight-or-flight.

Give this goof the game he claims to want with actual D- a game that ends up being 89-76 and he will be whining about how boring it was.

Some insane takes in this one. People hate Draymond because he's all bark and no bite and only goes after players he knows won't fight back. K-Mart just recently called him out on it too. Dray can yell at players and refs all game and not get thrown out while others get ejected for much lesser offenses. He's a great player but if you're not a GSW fan you would have every right to hate his ass.

Style of play is one component as to why the league's watered down, the officiating in the RS has gotten a lot worse over the years. It's so damn inconsistent I don't even blame players for getting upset about calls anymore, it's ****ing horrible. I watched the Clippers Sixers game recently where they called a bullshit foul on the Clippers when they got a steal and it took a coach's challenge (which means about a 3-minute delay to the game) to get the call right near the end of the game. Then Harden gets blatantly fouled on a 3 that could've won the game and they miss the damn call which decides the outcome.

I'm actually surprised there isn't an investigation going on with the referees considering how much money is on the line.

Supposedly better than the watered-down 90s but whines about the enormous lack of defense today. Which is it really then? :ohwell:

Three main issues:

--Three point shooting spamfest. This is the biggest one. How is it fun to watch teams spam 3 pointers most of the game? Part of the fun of basketball is seeing the skill of players get into the teeth of defenses and use footwork and moves to score closer to the basket or hit tough midrange jumpers.

--Every player carries the ball on virtually all their dribbles. This is literally against the rules of the game of basketball and gives the offensive players advantages they shouldn't have and lowers the skill floor when it comes to handles.

--All types of newfangled rules to facilitate offense and make defense harder to play.

I don't think so. Draymond is a proven elite defensive player - who has high basketball IQ, excellent anticipation and fundamentals, understands the full defensive setup, guiding other players on the team. They can't acknowledge this though- because they simply dwell on the minor factors such as the ones you pointed out.

You will not get a tougher league when the average fan is crying about players like them and calling for their indefinite suspension for things that used to be common fouls in the 90s. [/B]

If the fan supposedly wants better defense, the FIRST person they should be elevating is Draymond. But they are too mired in their own insecurities and fears, so instead they talk down the guy.

Same for LeBron, same for Rudy Gobert. I thought these defense-lovers would adulate someone like Gobert- but no they call him soft just like they do LeBron, all against any semblance of reason for one thing- they are intimidated by such people and shore up their own masculinity by talking them down.

What is the problem with the NBA? The problem is the average fan would like to see more toughness in the league.... but just not from people who scare him. He would also like more leniency for tough defense and then will cry about "boring" games where both teams score under 100 points. He wants more strictness on carrying the ball, traveling on step backs etc. but then will yawn at the tediousness of the less-than-stellar highlights.

Now you know why Steve Jobs ignored the customer since the customer has no clue what he wants.
