"LOS ANGELES — Elden Campbell, the Inglewood native who spent more than half of his 15-year NBA career with the team he grew up watching, has died at the age of 57. The former Lakers forward and center played 8½ seasons in Los Angeles and became a fixture during a transformative era for the franchise."

Re: Elden Campbell(57) has passed....
Skilled for a big man, was he not?
RIP.
Re: Elden Campbell(57) has passed....
That's really unfortunate... seemed like a good guy that other players had respect for.
I had him on my fantasy one season back in the day.
RIP big guy
Re: Elden Campbell(57) has passed....
Pretty young. Sorry to hear that.
Re: Elden Campbell(57) has passed....
Seems big guys fall early...
Great inside guy
RIP
Re: Elden Campbell(57) has passed....
I have early childhood memories playing NBA Live 96 with the Lakers and tearing it up with Campbell, Divac, Eddie Jones, Van Exel and Ceballos.
Re: Elden Campbell(57) has passed....
He was solid, not an ideal starting C but if he did you were okay with it type of thing.

Its weird seeing guys who did soo much cardio in there life die soo young. Do they change there lifestyle as soon as they are not in the league anymore?

He died from an accidental drowning. Could happen to anyone his age. Not sure what you’re saying applies to his death.
Generally speaking it seems nba players who retire tend to let themselves go moreso than say football players. My sample size isn’t large but just casual observations from retired nba players either on tv, in social media vs nfl players. Night and day. Maybe nfl players change their lifestyles whereas nba players continue it minus working out.

Doing a ton of cardio as a 7 foot giant isn't going to necessarily be good for your body. A lot of these guys become immobile to an extent when they're older, and then from their weight gain and organ problems can develop. They put their bodies through a ringer, but that didnt have to do with why he died. Either way over exercise at a professional level damages the body. Look at Larry Bird and Scottie Pippen and others they had the backs and knees of 60 year old when they were around 40. Its hard on the body.
Re: Elden Campbell(57) has passed....
Just found out he drowned, so it wasn't a health issue.
I remember him scoring 40 points, against the Knicks, in 97, NBA on NBC, double overtime. Knicks won, though.
