Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Since some guys were interested, I figured I'd open this thread to keep track of the stats and the highlights of the Raptors' players in Eurobasket this summer.
Below are the game played up to now, please notice that these are just test matches, and that the real tournament will begin on the 31st.
I'll update the first post with the new stuff when the upcoming games will take place.

Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Thanks, Doko.
What's up with Calderons stats? Is he not getting much playing time because its just exhibition or what?
Thanks, Doko.

From what I've seen he's playing backup to Rubio. However, all the players of Spain are playing like 10-15 minutes per game, including the starters.
They probably just want to condition everyone on the roster before the tournament starts.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
I figured it was something like that. Spain is always such a deep team.
How has Rubio been playing? Just curious.

Actually I've watched just one Spain game, but from what I've heard he's doing fairly well in limited minutes.
I'll definitely answer this better once Eurobasket starts and I see him in action against some real competition :)
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Awesome. Lots of good basketball this summer, I'll be watching a lot of the FIBA tournament, so any insight you can offer from the Eurobasket would be great.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Yes, there will be a lot of talent in the tournament.
Spain is favourite to win with a expected lineup of Calderon/Navarro/Rudy/Pau/Marc Gasol. Rubio and Ibaka from the bench (but big minutes for Ibaka of course).
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
I really can't see how Spain doesn't win, they have by far the most talent in my opinion, but you just never know.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
I will say this, if the Raptors did a legit Euro push and somehow became team Spain that would be a hell of an NBA franchise. A front court of the Gasol brothers is Sedin twins dirty.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Updated with JoVal's latest statlines and Bargs' highlights vs Russia.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Nice statlines for both.
When are they in action next?

Bargs vs Bulgaria on Tuesday.
Valanciunas on Wednesday vs Slovenia.

Lithuania won vs Spain in second match.

This is partially why I thought the rumors of Calderon to Minny after they signed Rubio were BS.
I can no longer find it - but I distinctly recall reading rumours or spanish press translations that basically state - bad blood between Calderon and Rubio. I goes back some time I believe. The two of them cant stand each other and might jeopardize the team chemistry....
If they are favored to win - no suprise given the talent - I will be curious to see how the Rubio /Calderon thing works out... whether this is just made up team chemistry bs from the press or whether it has some bite.

Might have something to do with jose losing his starting job to an 18 year old.
But that didn't stop them from winning.

Jose hasn't lost his starting job. He is better than Rubio. Marc Gasol or Ibaka can be the only doubt, but it seems that Marc will start the games.
Rubio (almost 21 years old) is all about potential right now. He hasn't played well this season. People think that his game can adapt well to the NBA though.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Rubio was the starter at the last olympics.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Calderon injured himself during the tournament. Rubio and the third PG were playing badly, so Navarro played some minutes as PG.

theres a shocker

Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Added Bargnani's and Valanciunas' stats for today and yesterday games.
And yes, Calderon at the present time is way better than Rubio.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Added Bargnani's stats and highlights for the last 2 games. He averaged 13,3 rebounds per game in the tournament.
Lots of post ups and dunks too, but the competition (especially in the second game) wasn't the best (except for Greece).
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Also highlights for Valanciunas vs Slovenia.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
22pts 9rb and 2blk for bargs in a loss to the serbs.
not sure which one started but jose calderon and ricky rubio seem equally useless for spain.

That is because you know very little about basketball.
Calderon started and was fouled out. The five players that I had said started.

Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
well than i guess 0 pts 2 asst and 6 fouls in 12 min. is effective play.

4 rebounds and 1 steal.
Jose was always in foul trouble and never got into rhythm. That could be part of the reason why Spain had such a bad game. Rubio and Sada equally shared the time at PG, which means that Rubio is not a key player at all. Spain could win the championship without Pau (Marc/Ibaka is still the best interior duo), but they would be in deep trouble without Calderon. Sorry, I understand that most people in the forum is ignorant about European basketball. Just don't say nonsense statements, like "Caleron is useless to Spain".
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
didn't they win the gold medal (or was it silver) when jose was injured?
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Updated with the statlines and highlights of the first day.
Only 4 mins for JoVal, Spain looks good, Bargs keeps up with the good rebounding games.

It was silver. And they won the World Championship in 2006 with Pau injured.

Jose hasn't been playing great for Spain for the entire summer (based on looking at the stats), so when does Jose actually show up and actually have a really good game? Spain has proven throughout the summer that they don't need Jose to contribute a lot in order to win.
Just so you don't make a "ignorance to European Basketball" comment: I will admit that Spain has the best frontcourt in the world outside of the USA.

You are admitting that you are ignorant, because you don't watch European Basketball, you just look at the stats.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
I don't think it is complete ignorance.
Jose has hardly been playing at all. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the fact they were warmup games. But part of it is that Jose is not the player he used to be.
-
You are admitting that you are ignorant, because you don't watch European Basketball, you just look at the stats.
Well by looking at the stats, I can tell you that you are the ignorant one and Jose Calderon sucks at basketball :pimp:
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
You are admitting that you are ignorant, because you don't watch European Basketball, you just look at the stats.
Yeah aren't stats apart of basketball as well? I'd rather have someone post up good numbers rather than no numbers. If "European Basketball" needs Jose surely he would post up some good numbers, but he isn't. They stats aren't there so hes probably not running pick and roll or anything special for this Spain team, actually never mind because getting the ball to one of the Gasol brothers which is extremely hard to do. Considering hes not the most top notch defender and the stats aren't there I don't see him doing much for this team.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Calderon will always do what the team need, no matter the stats.
I think that Calderon is a very important players because.. well, I don't like Rubio running the team. That is the the only way I can see Spain not winning the championship.
-
Re: Raptors in Eurobasket, Stats & Highlights
Added stats and highlights for the 3rd day. Monster game for Bargs, Spain and Caldy keep the domination coming, DNP for JoVal.
-

Haven't been paying much attention, why did Valanciunas not play?
