Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
Shams Charania
@ShamsCharania
The Lakers are expected to request permission soon to speak to Dwight Howard and there's mutual interest between the eight-time All-Star and L.A. in wake of DeMarcus Cousins' torn ACL, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA@Stadium

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
The Dwight cancer is soon to be metastasizing.
If he can somehow keep his cancerous personality in check (he won't) then he will be a great pickup. But soon he'll be whining about touches and sowing discontent throughout.

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
an upgrade on Cousins/McGee and yet still a shitshow

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
AD/Dwight frontcourt...dat defense!

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
I've actually said for a few years now, Dwight can still go, he just needs the motivation (for whatever reason, but he does) and LeBron would be that perfect motivation and would get the best out of him. A year and a half ago, I was all for the Cavs trading the Nets pick for Dwight.

Maybe so.

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
Lakers fans can convince themselves of anything

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
Lebron is definitely a better fit for Dwight than Kobe and harden were. I think it can work if Dwight stays humble. Big IF though.

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
err why?? why not kenneth faried??

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
Not to say he’s washed up but fairied is a shell of his former defensive self

Dwight "I loved it when Kobe called me soft" Howard

Why, though? He's going to clog the paint and he can't shoot. He seems to be antithetical to the style of big men that Lebron prefers to play with.

No he won’t. Kobe didn’t get along with him but was straight up with him. Lebron will be sick of him as well but will smile in his face like everything is all good and just have him traded by the deadline.

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
Dwight is weird but if hes just....playing basketball?
How many of you have actually watched him the last 3 years or so?
Hes.....still pretty good.
He was ok briefly with the Wizards last year. He had 25/17 his last real game.
Hes not just a bad basketball player.
-
Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
Do the Lakers ever stop winning?
-
Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
Right but the issue isn't his basketball ability.
-
Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
Lebron will never win a ring again, basketball karma has decided that since he got his 2016 ring and Durant joined the Warriors.
Dwight on the Lakers would just be another nail in the coffin.

If he focuses solely on defense and cleaning up the boards he'll be fine. If he starts to get an ego and demand offensive possessions...well ya then that'd be really bad.

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
Dwight still got something in the tank. Not sure about playing with lebron though

LeBron, AD, AND Dwight? Making it REALLY hard to root for this team. :facepalm

Seriously.
Several things need to happen here - Howard has to remain semi healthy for the duration of the season, and he needs to accept that he is not even close to being the man on this team. They need his rebounding and defense.

Dwight has been on the following teams the last 7 years:
Orlando
Lakers
Houston
Atlanta
Charlotte
Washington
Memphis
He's working on an 8th. If he's not a bad basketball player he must be flat out insane.

He is a bad basketball player when you take intangibles into account.

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
I just don't understand why they have to go with the "big name". Sign Kenneth Faried, he's hungry and proved to be useful in a Capela-like role. Let him eat rebounds, putbacks, and drop off passes from Bron and call it a day. Probably better defender than Dwight at this point too.
To the people asking others if they have watched Dwight play the past 2-3 years...there is no need. He has been putting up good numbers, right? But missed the playoffs 3 years in a row with 3 different teams (Scratch that, barely made the playoffs with the Hawks). Yes the Wizards were heavily injured...but so was Dwight, he only played 9 games. That's ****ing concerning considering we are trying to find a REPLACEMENT for an already injured big man.
He averaged 16.6ppg and 12.5rpg for the Hornets, all star numbers..yet they finished 36-46 in the east. Kemba, Batum, Lamb, Marv Williams etc. were all healthy, they had the exact same record the year before without Dwight...he literally had 0 impact even with the great numbers.

When you take how well you can play basketball into account he isnt. We just have a lot of incredibly dramatic fans....not that Dwight isnt dramatic himself.
Hes been on one bad team he actually suited up for. His teams were in the playoffs 11 years in a row with him playing a big role for all of them. You can only be so bad at basketball and be productive on good teams for a decade+.
All the intangibles in the world wont get most bigs a starting spot over Dwight.
Hes a legit starting big....Im sure nobody thinks hes still a near MVP.

I'm sorry bro, honestly have you WATCHED him at all during these past 5-6 years? It's painfully obvious to anybody that has watched to notice that he has a negative impact on the game.
Dwight was a BEAST during his Magic days...played decent on Houston the first year as well, but he has been just flat out bad the last couple of years.
How the hell is it possible that he averaged 16.6ppg and 12.5rpb, had Kemba Walker on the team, Nic Batum, and GOOD role players...yet failed to make the playoffs in the weak east? I'm sorry, I don't want that center starting for my team.
Don't get me started with his negative attitude that can drain an entire locker room. Big no, I don't understand how Pelinka of all people isn't aware of Dwight the cancer.

Re: Shams: Lakers and Dwight Howard have mutual interest
You know what tho, I should probably stop trashing the guy. Chances are, he will be our new starting center seeing how things are shaping up.
Let's look at the positive...maybe he does gain much needed motivation playing with LeBron and AD. Maybe he stops being a child and accepts that he is 34 and accepts his role as a glass cleaner/rebounding center who can take a drop pass from Bron and finish consistently, play defense consistently...
You gotta understand, we've had an unmotivated Dwight in a Lakers uniform once before. We know just how much he can be a negative for a team looking to win.
