The Tampa Bay Rays are off to a 3-0 start, while the Baltimore Orioles are 0-3. All other teams have both a win and a loss.
Kershaw with a perfect game through 7 and gets pulled. Dude legit was on fire and had a really good chance at a perfect game.
Lol at Kershaw being pulled. I get it he's been getting hurt more often later stages of his career but c'mon man
How do you allow yourself to get pulled from that game unless he had an agreement with Roberts prior to that inning and was on a pitch count. That's just so stupid.
I don't know why MLB thought it was a good idea to put their Friday games on Apple Tv. They're adding another subscription on top of forcing me to keep cable television service to watch local teams.
Mike Trout injured again after getting hit in the hand.

Technically it's free. You only gotta make an account but then that ruins it for boomers that have no idea how to do that :lol I didn't feel right about adding a cc to it, but I guess that's only there in case you want to purchase something. I won't ever turn the app on unless the Mets play plus I get alerts any time I get charged on that card so I think I'm good.
Yankees lost 5-0 to a triple A team and the Mets won 5-0. It was a good day for me :oldlol:

Unfortunately had to watch my Sox vs the Rays with that horrible woman commentator and her boring color commentator they have at Apple TV...never again!

She is bad. Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football bad. Sox are gonna win the central by 20 games this year. They are so much better than that division losing their 2 best SP's isn't enough to bring them back to the pack.
Roki Sasaki is the best pitcher in the world. He's a 20 year old Japanese player and has thrown 17 straight perfect innings.
We won't see him in the MLB for another 5-6 years though

Lol, until he can prove he can pitch in the big leagues, him being the best pitcher in the world is just another one of your awful takes.

I never saw the broadcast with Miller, searched it on YouTube and holy shit was I cringing HARD. I never thought he was funny and that shit show proved it without an ounce of doubt :facepalm
Giants got some tough breaks with two replay reviews earlier. One lead to a rally that tied the game in the 5th. It was the right call though. But there was a replay in the top of the 10th where Estrada was clearly safe and the replay came back as out. Erased a run and then lost in the bottom of the 10th.
Webb and Scherzer are having a duel for the second game of the double header. Should be a good game.
Scherzer with 5 hitless innings. He’s dealing.

He threw the first perfect game in the NPB in over 25 years. Then did it again the next game. His fastball blows Gerrit Coles out of the water.
Is baseball another sport you pretend to know anything about? :oldlol:

It's the Japanese league you twit, are you trying to argue that the Japanese league is on par with MLB? That's like some striker on an MLS team going on all time tear, 2 goals a game for a whole season and trying to argue he's the best in the world, no you idiot, until you go up against the best in one of Europe's top leagues (English Premier League, Calcio Serie A, LA Liga, Bundesliga etc) and do it there can you even entertain to make such a claim. How many sure things from Japan came over to the Majors only to be meh? Daisuke Matsuzaka, ring a bell? I'm not saying that kid is a scrub, but to call him the best pitcher in the world because he's raking it in Japan is a stupid take, and throwing faster than Cole doesn't mean shit, plenty of guys throw faster than him, doesn't necessarily make them better pitchers...FOH son. Figures why you stan LeBron, because you're a dope.

He has the longest perfect inning streak in professional baseball history and if you've watched him you know he'd be dominating in the MLB too. Shut the **** up

What part of MLB hitters > NPB hitters are you not understanding? Until he proves he can dominate the best of the best, calling him the best pitcher in the world is retarded.
Sox with a gritty win over the Jays last night 2-1. Gonna need those type of outings from Eovaldi regularly with our pitching staff.
What part of MLB hitters > NPB hitters are you not understanding? Until he proves he can dominate the best of the best, calling him the best pitcher in the world is retarded.
Until you watch him play, study his pitches, and understand that striking out hitters is harder in NPB and he manages to strike out 13 straight in a perfect game, then threw another perfect game his next outing , you'll realize he's the best. This isn't some random guy who gut lucky. He's a well known phenom with ridiculous stuff that's better than what DeGrom when healthy or anyone else is dealing. 17 perfect innings straight is unheard of in professional ball.
You're just a dumb bitch...
Scherzer's impeccable outing got me thinking. We are seeing the last few dominant pitchers to pitch in MLB. SP's are pitching less and less innings due to a variety of reasons, but the longevity that guys like Scherzer, Verlander, and Kershaw have won't be seen for a while I believe. No more 300 game winners that's for sure. Guys like Scherzer and Verlander were a new breed of dominant pitchers that surpass 3000 strikeouts, but don't come close to 300 wins. Even Kershaw, at age 34 only has 187 Wins. Outside of these 3 guys, I can't tell you who looks to be a sure Hall of Famer. Maybe Gerrit Cole.

There’s plenty of dominant pitchers. They’re just asked to do different things now.

And you're an absolute moron for thinking NPB batters are on par with MLB. Until he does all those great things at the highest level, he can't be considered the best pitcher in the world. I'm done with you, moron.

He's the first one to do it in that league in 25+ years... then did it the next fukking game. Watch the guy play before you start blasting off obvious things. Nobody said the NPB Is as good as MLB. But saying they have the best pitcher in the world isn't remotely a reach. That Ohtani guy is pretty good too.. I guess you would've been saying the same thing about him. Sucks until he does it in MLB... Watch him pitch dick head
Name some of them. And asked to do different things? WTF are you talking about?? :oldlol:
I was sure Degrom was gonna be a HOF'er with 1 more Cy... which for him would have been easy if he could stay healthy. He was off to a historic start last year, but turns out throwing harder than everyone else... is detrimental to your arm nowadays. I'm actually pleasantly shocked Mets are still good without him. In days past, pre-Cohen, Mets would have been done already if their best pitcher got hurt :lol Mets might actually be good
Name some of them. And asked to do different things? WTF are you talking about?? :oldlol:
You really want me to name the great pitchers? :lol
They're asked to do different things than pitchers 20-30-40 years ago were asked to do. Even 10 years ago. That's an absolute fact.
You're not expected to throw 8 innings and save the bullpen anymore. Velocity around the league is higher than ever because these dudes are now going in and blowing as fast as they can to then pass it off to the bullpen. The analytics are finally catching up and the fact that the 3rd time through the order shows a serious uptick in opponent numbers across the board means now as a starter you're expected to dominate the first 18 hitters. Starting is more of a sprint than a marathon.
There's no more throwing 80% in the first couple innings to preserve yourself to go 9.
Having said all of that...there are plenty of dudes who start games now that are incredible.

He's nasty but you need to chill. Major league baseball is completely different. People strike out more here but there's a reason why. Pitchers are better for starters.
But the power over here is worlds different. Players in the MLB sacrifice strikeouts for power sometimes. When you have no power then all you have is putting the ball in play.
He very well could and probably will be an elite pitcher in the MLB. But we don't know yet so don't call him the best in the world.

Study his pitches. Nobody throws what he throws. 17 straight perfect innings
We have no idea if he will stay healthy or not. But if he does he's absolutely gonna dominate the MLB. And he's the best in the world right now. Just do some research

It's not about his pitches. Obviously the stuff is there and then some. I'm not saying "hurrr MLB players can hit that shit".
It's mental on the biggest stage. Before you know how he's going to react when someone lays off his slider and then he misses on a fastball and gives up a 450 foot shot and then doesn't have 6 hitters in the lineup after that are easy outs. Lets see how he handles it when it happens more often than he's used to. And as you said, staying healthy while pitching in a far more stressful environment.
Don't call him the best in the world until he's experienced and accomplished all of that.
I used to think the same about Strasburg. And while he's turned out relatively well, YouTube highlights and numbers against inferior opponents aren't going to make you the best.

Outside of those I already named, there are no more dominant pitchers. Sure, you can rattle off Cole and DeGrom, but it's still too early on Cole and DeGrom is always injured. Yes, when he's healthy, he's dominant, but we can't include him into this conversation. All I'm saying is that the era of Pedro, Clemens, Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Randy Johnson, and Schilling is over.
The only thing they're asked to do differently nowadays is pitch less and to me, that's not baseball. And even if we expect a SP to go 5 or 6 innings, you still don't have as many dominant pitchers as you did before.

I don't buy any of that. Strasburg dealt with injuries from the get-go... that's a dumb example
None of the hitters in the NPB are easy outs... they're not as powerful but they make contact and they play a different style in Japan. There's a reason it's been 28 years since their last perfect game before Roki. And he practically did it twice. That's outrageous.
Mentally he'll be fine. He lost family members to a tsunami at age 9 and threw 2 straight perfect games at age 20. His stuff isn't just good... it's outrageously good.. his fastball and cutter are better than anybody in MLB by a long shot.

Just because it isn’t baseball to you doesn’t mean it isn’t baseball. Relief pitchers are very much a part of the game.
And yes, being asked to pitch less was my entire point. They’re asked to pitch less but more aggressively. So there’s a trade-off.
The 90s is the greatest era of front end pitching in the history of baseball. Not really fair to knock the guys now. But there’s plenty of guys. Maybe some you’ve never seen and barely heard of.
Check out Alek Manoah.
An actual final score today: Cubs 21, Pirates 0.
Trout is still by far the best player in baseball. Maybe ever.
Too bad Angels suck even though they are having Trout AND Ohtani.
They're pretty good this year. Good rotation, solid bullpen, good lineup. I think they'll win the AL West
Trouts looking like he'll win MVP number 4... which should probably be 6 but whatever
The only sad thing about Trout is that he's never been fully healthy, so when he retires, he probably won't hold any records, but his stats will still be gaudy. I mean, I could be totally wrong. If he plays another 10 years and stays in relatively good health, he could be a 700 homer guy. He's only 35 homeruns away from 350 at age 30.

Through 2019 he was mostly healthy and had the highest WAR by his age of anybody in history. Then covid happened and the calf strain that kept him out last year. He's still on a top 5 pace I believe
I think they should move him to right or left field though to lighten his load. He plays the game so hard which is great but definitely opens him up to potential injuries. I always worry when I see him sprinting on the base path like a mad man. Hes too damn big to be moving like that
