How long will Bron have the scoring record?
To be honest, he's going to have to play a few more years if he really wants to put it out of reach.
The NBA has decided they want offense only so this next generation will have it pretty easy. Luka really is the best candidate considering he's basically putting up identical career stats as Lebron...but who knows if he will play long enough. He has the game to do it for sure, but idk about the body.

Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
Not as long as he’ll have the turnover record
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
The issue isn't so much the scoring rate, it's the longevity. Bearing in mind without the 2012 lockout or the 2020 pandemic season he'd have broken it already and been in the 40k range. You're gonna need someone to hit 27-30ppg ( that's doable) for 15-20 years at like 70 games a year ( much less doable) or however the math works. And we don't know what his final point tally will be when he decides to hang it up.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
He's averaged 25+ ppg for 19 consecutive seasons, and offensive friendly era or not, is averaging 30 ppg in his late 30's. I know people said Kareem's record would never be broken, but there's just no way someone's going to put together 2 decades of superstar level play, mostly injury free, like LeBron has.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
uka genuiney coud be a threat, i dont know, the ongevity is too crazy..
and they might shorten the season some day to smth ike 58 games (which makes more sense), which woud forever put that record out of touch.
ofc it coud sti be extrapoated to the amount of games, but then again that heath cant be guaranteed.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
Luka very well could end up with a higher career PPG average. I don't see him playing 20 years( in fact he's on record as saying he won't, granted shit could change). He needs the consistency and more importantly the health, and he's not blessed with Lebron's athletic genes. Bron never missed any significant amount of time until he was like 34-35, his first season in LA.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
I doubt it happens anytime in the next 30 years. You're going to need a transcendent player that can play at a high level for a majority of their career that will need to last upwards of 20 years. They'll also have to avoid any serious long term injury.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
if he ends up with over 40k, which most likely will, I don't think it will be reached anytime soon. the durability, longevity, consistency, I don't think anyone will come close. luka already mentioned he won't play as long as lebron, he would go back play back home, and luka isn't as durable as bron.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
Imagine if he eventually reaches above 40k points. The haters are already on suicide watch atm but things will just get even worse for them.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
It really shouldn't matter, because lebron has always been much more than a scorer. That's the crazy part. Most points and top 2 or 3 in assists is the craziest thing ever.
It'll probably be another 40 or so years though. But I guarentee whoever surpasses it won't be top 3 in assists.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
Luka can definitely break it (he'll probably finish with 9500 career points by the end of this season), but I can't see his body holding up. He looks out of shape now at 23 years old.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
Honestly I think never because Lebron will play another 3-4 seasons at least and retire at ~45k.

Luka could be top 3 in assists if he also passes the scoring record...his scoring/assists numbers per game are just like young Lebron's.

There's a lot ot guys who can score and pass sure. But not for 20+ years
Harden had a run there with ridiculous scoring/assists but is no where near the record.
And I've changed my mind. I dont think it'll ever be broken again if lebron plays another 3 years. It's permanent.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
Lebron has been incredibly lucky avoiding injuries and being in good shape. As others have noted, if he pushes for 45k I don't think anyone will break that record.

Yeah, I didn't even factor in him playing beyond this year tbh. We haven't even seen the guy drop below 25 ppg since his rookie year :lol He shows no signs of slowing down scoring wise, and, barring injury of course, could legitimately average 25+ ppg for at least the next couple of seasons, if not more. He could get to 45k when it's all said and done.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
Forever if his longevity so far is any indication.

Gonna take some serious advancements in gene editing for anybody to have a shot in the future. But when everybody is playing for 30 years instead of 15, thats a whole different record altogether.
So the only way it actually gets broken is thru scientific advancements far beyond what we've seen thus far and a much larger gap than what we've seen from the 60s until now.
LeBron is the king forever no matter what.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
I was hoping he would break the record on an East Coast game...but looks like it might literally be against OKC which is a 10:30pm ET start time.
Probably my least favorite thing about Lebron's move to the Lakers is having so many west coast games.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
The idea is to have Kevin Durant to break it after Lebron retires.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
It won't be broken unless there's another shift in overall longevity. Players seem to play longer than 20, 30 or 40 years ago and yet Lebron is still an outlier longevity wise.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
If he retires at 44K points... he'll have it forever.
At 44K points a player would have to score:
30ppg for 19 seasons averaging 75 games a season.
or
25 ppg, for 23.5 seasons at 75 games a season.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
Until we develop the technology to slow down aging.
Seriously though, more and more players are realizing they make more money throughout their careers if they play 40-50 games per season for 17 years vs 70 per season for 14. And with the money players make now, more and more will retire before their actual age forces them to, which is relevant since KAJ's record was probably money driven in the first place.

Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
Does KD have a shot? Seems low but...he's already shooting up the scoring list. Wouldn't surprise me if he passed Jordan.
-
Re: How long will Bron have the scoring record?
It will never be broken. Ever.
By the end of LeBron's career he'll have between 40k-45k points.
To get to 40k, someone will have to average at least 27 ppg over a span of at least 22 seasons WHILE playing an average of 70 games per year. That will never happen. We will never see a player dominate this late into their career or have this type of longevity.
Enjoy the GOAT while he's here

Steph Curry has as many titles in less seasons and beat Lebron head to head 3 times without switching teams and came to a losing organization. Lebron isn't even GOAT in his own era.

Steph Curry also happened to play on the most stacked team of all time. Cavs were severely outmatched in 2017 and 2018
