I planned on checking it out tomorrow. It might end up being better than Badlands which I'm sure has a way bigger budget.
I feel like them deciding to do the young predator's head in CGI was a big no-no. Practical is always better for them because they look so real. Even the original Predator from 1987 still holds up today and still gives me chills down my spine when he confronts Dutch like this...they did such a great job of making it be alien, but look real for a rubber suit.

...another favorite part of the movie from me that gives me chills when Dutch calls out the predator. What a fucking battle cry man...

Predator very well may be the greatest film ever made lol... It's definitely in my Top 10.
It's sad that Prey is the best sequel we ever got... Prey was a solid film... everything else was either mediocre or crap.
There's actually a Predator movie that I've never watched: Alien v Predator 2 Requiem.
Predator is top 10. Holds up super well.

Alien: Earth looks pretty good. Definitely will be checking that out...

Don't. It's the second worse Predator film in the whole franchise behind "The Predator" by Shane Black. AvP2 is so dark that you can't tell what's going on half the time in the movie.

Yep, pretty good rewatchablity too. I watch it a few times a year usually. I remember when they remastered it and put it out in 4K. There were parts in the movie where I could see the Predator in camo, but couldn't before.

I agree. Prey was solid. There were a few nitpicks I didn't like. In a couple scenes you could tell they used CGI on the face, but others it looked practical. I wish as they were revealing the Predator they wouldn't of show him so earlier (ie: getting off the ship and the ship leaving him, hunting the wolf, etc). Introducing the Predator for the first time in the bear scene would've been much better IMO.

I agree. I have it on blue ray and end up re watching it more than almost any other movie. I also remember back in the day either USA or TBS would play it so often. Friday too. They would play those two movies every night it seemed :lol

Production quality looks really good for a show. Love the horror tone. Alien franchise should be sci-fi horror most of the time.

yeah the production honestly is movie level, if it wasn't for the FX network logo, I'd think it was a film. glad it got the budget and personnel to make it look good bc a big part of that franchise is visuals. only 2 months away too, not bad.

Plus you learn so much stuff about the movie behind the scenes like how Jean Claude Van Damme was originally the Predator and in a more slimmer form doing ninja shit. And they filmed some of it then scrapped it because it was so bad. Thank god they scrapped that.
The actors were super competitive with each other. Arnold would always try to one up everyone when working out. He had his whole home gym flown in and installed in the hotel the crew stayed at.
Shane Black (the jokester Hawkins) wanted to wear legit military combat goggles, but they made him wear those big ass goofy glasses. Also originally instead of him wearing that camo baseball cap they wanted him to wear a red beret, but Black thought that would look dumb as f*ck running around in a jungle as a guerilla rescue team in a red beret. :oldlol: Most if not all of his jokes in the movie were improv. Also, the only reason Black wanted to be cast in the first place was to act and not do rewrites on the script. Because the filmers liked his writing on Lethal Weapon. So in the movie this is why Hawkins (Black) is killed first because the director knew Black wasn't going to do rewrites and his acting was horrid. So they killed him early to cut ties with him early. :oldlol:
This looks amazing actually.
I think going the "Spiderverse" route allows for so much more great action that simply does not feel right when done with real people. It just works. The audience already has to suspend reality with these movies, we don't need real humans in them.

I just watched this and overall it was good. I really liked how they incorporated different Yautjas species, styles and weapons in each story. The Japan story was by far my favorite. Ever since I watched Predators and they had the short fight scene with the Yakuza clan member I always thought it would've been really cool for a Yautja to face off against a highly trained ninja. The roof parkour and red smoke bombs were awesome. My least favorite story was the WWII story. There ain't no damn way a WWII propeller plane is going to put up that kind of fight against a Yautja ship. They should've changed the timeframe to modern jets or something. I don't know. I just wasn't feeling that one as much.
I liked the ending story and what they showed the Yautjas does with victors to give a call back to Prey. Overall good watch.
About to watch this....
I'm hyped.
Fun facts...
- The alpha Yuatja or the elder in the last story...his cape/cloak is made of xenomorph tails.
- In the Japanese story the voices for the brothers Kenji and Kiyoshi was voiced by Louis Ozawa Changchien who played as Hanzo the Yakuza clan member in Predators
disappointed because I want more...
This should not have been a movie... It needed to be several episodes... so the final battle seemed kinda rushed.
lmao that the kid got the famous pirate gun for his weapon.
They had something great here, but could've been delivered better... and it looks as if they were setting up Badlands to some degree.
I'm confident we will get a sequel... so many timelines that could be explored.
I was very entertained, just want more.
Marvel has 3 seasons of "What If?" 26 episodes total... Not all of the episodes were great, but the animation & style was quality in each one. Predator should've taken a similar approach.
I'm confident we will get a sequel... so many timelines that could be explored.
I totally misunderstood until the end of the movie. At first I thought the Yuatja time traveled and plucked those three from three different eras of time, but what it looks like they actually did was freeze them like they showed Naru at the end from Prey and just wake those three up and dumped them in the arena.

Yea the ending kinda gave me a Raiders of the Lost Ark type of feeling... they had a bunch of humans in their vault as their artifacts.... was thinking Dutch was gonna be one of them for a second.

I agree with what you are saying... but I did like how the Predator was hunting with the ship... which is not how Predator's typically hunt, but for some reason I thought this change of hunting worked, and would only work in the form of a cartoon.
if they had a $200 million budget to make a Top Gun/Maverick vs Predator Ship type of movie... I don't see how they could make it work... so for the sake of this cartoon, it didn't bother me (except how he climbed out on to the wing midair)
While it was the worst of the 3 .... I still enjoyed it.
What doesn't work are predator dogs or Predator Hounds... which were in The Predator and Predators.... those are terrible.

I'm going to disagree with Tyrone here.
The main reason is he's been super anti-woke for a hot minute. If they show a strong woman he's almost exclusively against it and labeling woke.
Secondly female Viking warriors actually existed and they were called Valkyries or Shield Maidens like in the film. It's not like the writing forced a woman in a role that they didn't inhabit in real life. Female Viking warriors existed and they were ruthless.
Her killing several men in the charge scene was awesome and it wouldn't be realistic even if it was a man doing it much less a woman.
Him putting down 1/3 of the movie because he's super anti-woke when I don't think it was woke at all is rubbish to me.
Saw it last night, didn't have high expectations and really enjoyed it as well as the implications for a follow-up. Will we see Dutch or Harrigan? What about Adrian Brody's character in Predators since that movie ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger?
@Meticode I agree with you about the WWII story, that was my least favorite section. Frankly I could have watched the entire movie set in Japan, I've been saying in my own circles for years that they should have made a 'Predator in feudal Japan' movie ages ago.

Yeah, these tubers are feeding the algorithm and 'anti-woke' is in now with the current political climate. As you said, while I can definitely agree that Hollywood went over the line years ago with 'actual' woke stuff, female Vikings were a thing so it's not like they depicted a woman in a completely unrealistic situation.

I haven't seen his channel in forever... and don't get me wrong, you're talking to a guy that originally didn't notice how extremely woke Terminator Dark Fate was when he watched it.... so it's very hard for the woke element to deduct points off a film's score for me personally. Usually those types of woke things are noticed in a collection films & shows like MCU and Star Wars. I think the wokeness started to peak in the MCU whenever I watched the She-Hulk show.
But... I didn't know Magnus had gone down the anti-woke path to this degree... I use to watch his channel alot for movie reviews & commentary. Either way, the strong female character (which you point out did exist in the viking days) didn't bother me in Killer of Killers, but did become more noticeable in the final battle between the 3.

'Woke' in retrospect basically started with the female Ghostbusters movie IIRC, but at that time I didn't really know that's what it was( and I reckon many of us didn't know what was coming).

Take the movie EndGame for example...
Most people had a problem with all the Female characters uniting for a Super Girl-Power moment... which was at the the end of the film.

Here we have the most anticipated comic book movie of all time... and the director is talking about his Gay Date and weak Man-Crying in the opening scene.
It's completely unnecessary, unneeded and made me cringe.... This is the type of $hit that completely ruined the show "The Last of Us"

Yeah they didn't give a single fukk in Endgame. All the female heroes just happening to be on the same spot in the battlefield for a girl power photo op.

From what I've read and seen, reportedly the Fantastic 4 movie will mostly feature Sue Storm with everyone else in the background. Of course, the Silver Surfer is also female( yes, I'm aware there's a comic storyline with a female surfer), so you know that's all the opening Marvel needed. :facepalm

so which is better?
Killer of Killers vs Spiderverse

Spider-verse is definitely better IMO, but Predators KOK is real solid. I think it fell off slightly at the end with the WW2 part as I didn't find it as interesting as the Vikings/Japan stories, but it finished pretty good and the easter egg of the Prey chick signalling that they're going around collecting those we've seen in the films kill Predators opens up some interesting future possibilities. Though I would have gone with Dutch at the end for maximum effect.

man... Killer of Killers comes close though because for me it's a first of it's kind.
I don't watch much animation, and when I do, it's never Rated R, and Predator is surprisingly more of a childhood favorite (1987) compared to spider-man.
There's about 4 or 5 episodes of "What-If?" that I'd say are close to Spider-verse level.
The best way to watch a movie is to go in with low expectations and low interest... and then be caught off-guard with a masterpiece.
And Spider-Verse was successful in that regard... took my 10-year old son to see it in theaters at the time (2018)... thought it might be interesting to watch in 3-D..... ending up leaving the theater mind-blown.
It's gonna be hard to take down the animated champ that is Spider-Verse.... but Predator and What-If have come close.

I had similarly low expectations for this, but I thought it was a genuinely well done movie and opens up the lore in some interesting ways. It's actually kind of cool that both the Alien and Predator franchises have gotten a shot in the arm in recent years( Alien Romulus was pretty decent too, mind you I think Predator KOK is a better watch overall).
And then I made a fatal mistake and took my oldest son to see The Predator in theaters

and after we left the theaters... my son looks at me and says: "Dad, wtf was that?" and I just looked at him said: "I'm sorry, son... I thought it might've been better than that"
Oh 'The Predator' is complete dogshit. I think 'Predators' with Adrian Brody is pretty underrated though, and maybe they'll tie up that story within this series.
More woke debate? Imagine if T2 or Aliens (both with strong female leads) had come out today? All the whining about how woke those movies are. People would call them horrible moves just due to having a woman in them. I guess they dodged a bullet there.

Or Star Wars for that matter. The difference is those movies didn't consciously write the men in those movies to be complete morons to offset them against the empowered female. Sarah Conner, Ripley and Princess Leia were all great characters with the appropriate sensibilities and vulnerabilities to make them relatable. The fact that they were also female was never the point. Modern Hollywood doesn't know how to write.
