Losing Jefferson was a plus. Losing Millsap, Demarre and Tinsley was tough.
he believes the Jazz are a worse team now than at the end of the 2012-13 regular season
You think?
In the ratings, Aldridge said Utah's difficulty bringing free agent to the Jazz negatively affected its offseason.
They weren't really trying were there? That would go against the tank that's obviously happening.
The Jazz will heavily rely on Derrick Favors and is banking on Trey Burke to rise to the occasion.
scary!
There is a lot of different opinions floating around, however it's almost certain the Jazz will struggle in its rebuilding year. Despite this, hope for a brighter future remains still for the Jazz faithful in Salt Lake City.
What else do we have?
THE KEY MAN: Forward Derrick Favors. Executive VP Kevin O'Connor wanted him as the centerpiece of the Deron Williams trade two years ago, and the Jazz were willing to let both Jefferson and Millsap bolt, in part, because Utah thinks the 22-year-old Favors is ready for his closeup and a starring role. At the least, Favors will get more than the 23 minutes per game he played last season.
He's a key. Not sure he is the key. How much Burks, Kanter, Burke and others can step up I think could be bigger.
Mark Woods: Alexis Ajinca has a NBA out from Strasbourg until September 30. If he plays like this, he might get a camp invite from someone.

I doubt an invite is a problem. Probably looking for some kind of guarantee at least. Jazz only have 14. need some camp bodies I'd think.
The New York Knicks coaching staff would like to sign Earl Barron, but team management is not in any rush to do so, according to a source close to the veteran free-agent center. "The Knicks coaches want Earl, but ownership wants to wait," the source told Bleacher Report. Bleacher Report
A second source familiar with the Knicks' free-agency plans confirmed they are interested in Barron, 32, who appeared in seven games (six starts) for the Knicks in 2009-10, averaging 11.7 points and 11.0 rebounds over 33.1 minutes. Last season

Good enough for what? One of the worst records ever?
Free agent guard Xavier Silas is accepting a training camp deal with the Washington Wizards, a league source told RealGM.
Silas had worked out for the Utah Jazz recently, but he took the Wizards' invitation to camp, where he'll battle Josh Childress -- among others -- for a spot on Washington's regular season roster.
Silas, 25, went undrafted in 2011, earning a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers in that offseason. He played 38 minutes and scored 11 points over two games in the 2011-12 season.
Silas participated in the Las Vegas summer league in July with the Milwaukee Bucks.

And there we have it! He's the vet center I guess. He rebounds. Has some experience. I can see him making the team at least until contracts become guaranteed or they take on someone elses crap for draft picks.

Certainly couldn't hurt, just as the bigs should all spend time with Malone.

Harris is good. Too bad he's undersized. McGuire has great size for a wing and a lot of experience. Be nice to have around if they could dump Marvin!
So officially 16? Sounds like Dwayne Jones and Justin Holliday too.
Kanter spent most of the summer in Chicago, where he makes his offseason home, only returning to Turkey for 13 days.
Interesting stuff. I don't believe the Jazz to be boorish and fatuous and have McNeal stay with the team all summer and then release him right before camp for no reason. Maybe it was McNeal's agent like Steve Luhm thinks, maybe it was a money issue. It seems like releasing him days before training camp begins benefits McNeal more than the Jazz so that hopefully he can catch on with another team.
Many teams have been cutting guys recently. They have unguaranteed contracts. They could be valuable in a trade. You don't want to just cut them until you have to. It looks like McNeal probably would have been in camp and had a shot to make the team if he'd wanted to. Taking the money and opportunity in China was probably the way to go though.

5. Utah Jazz: There was no ambiguity from the Jazz, as far as what direction the organization is going, as veteran stars Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap were allowed to depart via free agency, meaning Utah will build around its young core moving forward. The big-man combination of power forward Derrick Favors and center Enes Kanter will get every opportunity to blossom, while swingman Gordon Hayward should emerge as the team

Covington doesn't look like much of a prospect. Hits 3's. Maybe a terror on D? He played one year of college ball locally might explain his inclusion?
I'd guess Jones or Cook for one spot and Machado or Holiday for the other if they don't make a deal which I think could definitely happen with their flexibility and other teams lack of.
Don't think they've ever had close to the 20 player limit before. Things are definitely changing under Lindsey.
Scouting Report on Alec Burks prior to the NBA Draft
Posted on September 29, 2013 by David Locke
I was searching through files getting ready for the season. This was my scouting report on Alec Burks prior to the NBA Draft
Player: Alec Burks
Specifics: 6
Utah Jazz blog Salt City Hoops had an interesting look at how some Utah players improved their performance at athlete training center P3 in Santa Barbara, California. One player jumped out at me.
"Alec [Burks] was the biggest winner," said (Dr. Marcus) Elliott (of P3). The staff really admired him for his work over the past couple years. He has apparently improved in a number of areas from hip stability, knee position and trunk strength, all of which affect quickness. They recognize the unique opportunity Burks will have this season to finally get steady minutes, potentially even as a starter. He is considered one of their more "elastic" athletes. He reached a vertical height of 12′ 2.5″ during an approach this summer. When he first arrived in May 2012 he maxed out at 11′ 8.5″. That height is especially worth noting considering that he also weighs 11 more pounds than when he started."
The Jazz made a big buzz in their fanbase by sending their own pick (14th overall) and the acquired Warriors selection (21st) to Minnesota in exchange for the NCAA player of the year.
The Michigan star immediately became a fan favorite in Utah.
Is this before or after summer league?
Jazz fans were really torn when Neto came in and looked polished in his first appearance. (The Brazilian playmaker will not join the team until 2014.)
2014? Has this been stated? I think they said not this year maybe next.
While Biedrins and Jefferson are several years past their primes, the Jazz are hopeful they can bounce back to their previous forms and provide veteran court savvy and play.
Biedrins is young enough he could still have his best ball ahead. He still rebounds and blocks shots. Seems to have lost all confidence on his shot though. Being a contract year maybe he'll get his head straight?
What Favors learned in early workouts with Malone?
Perhaps the biggest offseason loss for Utah was the departure of longtime assistant coach Jeff Hornacek,
