But if the Jazz want to retain Hayward and Favors, they will certainly have to pay top dollar. And Hood, Dante Exum and Trey Lyles aren't that far behind.
Hopefully they can get Hayward and Favors to take less than full max. Jazz can still give them more than they'd get leaving.
Dante has to show he can play in the league before he gets paid.

I'm afraid that may be enough for the Jazz to keep him around.
Seeing Craft actually make good moves, or Butterfield take smarter gambles -- these are things the 2016 rookie guards just didn't have.
Wallace did.
We didn't see much of Trey Lyles on the court with Joel Bolomboy, which I felt like would have been useful to see.
They probably won't be playing together again for a while at least.
Of course, in a "win now" mode there's no point in having him around anymore, especially not when you can get Boris Diaw instead.
You still need to develop young guys too. I'm liking this trade less.
I was surprised he only played in one game, but his performance in that game may be indicative of a good enough reason to only play him in one of the nine games he was in uniform for.
Yeah what was up with that? He made the all-Orlando team
I expected to see more of him, but instead the Jazz looked harder at Dionte Christmas, undrafted rookie Quincy Ford, and Shaquille McKissic.
Ford is on their roster
In the NBA he was the 3rd string PF.
4th big
For one, he could post up, face-up, cut, or spot up.
His post game sucked. He could hit 3's and put a body on someone as a defender and hit FT's. That was about it though.
his actual skills are pro-level skills
not NBA though
Joel seems to be the best chance for the Jazz to actually have a player on their hands in the draft. Many of us are very openly rooting for him and his success.
Why him specifically? :confusedshrug:
He needs a year or two playing pro ball elsewhere before going to the NBA.
Needs to get stronger. He can shoot.
He could have a Hanlan like transformation if he works hard. I think he is up to it.
All3 of their picks were a lot better than Hanlan was a year ago so I'd be hopeful all 3 could be in the mix next year when they will need cheap contracts.
after Hanlan was traded he graduated to 1st string point guard.
believe Hanlan started at the 2
I also expect him to have one after shooting way under expectation in Summer league
You rely way too much on stats. He was active, got after people on d and showed he had some shooting potential. I liked him best of their picks for sure.
He did everything right last summer league
how did I miss that? :confusedshrug:
all he did scoring-wise this summer was hit one of his two free throws.
had like 9 boards in that game though
He averaged only 1.40 APG despite having the ball in his hands so much.
some of that is who he was playing with though. If they put the ball in his hands with Hill, Johnson, etc. spotting up he might rack up the assists
if he wasn't scoring he wasn't doing much else
which is what we saw last year
He just can't defend. Guys are too strong for him in the paint
moving is the hard part. He'll put a body on someone
which is exactly what you want from an athletic rebounder on your team
except defensive rebounding is the Jazz's problem
If you have to pick one, I'd pick Joel over Tibor.
as well as many other guys. They have too much money to keep him.
There's just really not much space on the Jazz right now for someone at his position.
There's plenty of spots if someone can play. I imagine they'd love him on the D-league team as a local.
Paige is a much better shooter, but he can't grow longer.
He's long though
Trey Lyles and Tibor Pleiss will be in training camp and have the inside track to make the team unless they are traded before the season starts
doubt there is any market for Tibor here. Buyout!:applause:
Joel Bolomboy needs a look in training camp for sure, and a chance to earn an NBA roster spot with the Jazz
no he doesn't. if he's in fall camp he has already made the team. What's the hurry? :confusedshrug:
That defensive improvement was two fold. First was the substation of Dante Exum into the lineup for Trey Burkes. Then was the rise of Rudy Gobert. Those two are not mutually exclusive nor are they mutually dependent. They are both defensive monsters.
Without Gobert it's hard to imagine the Jazz not sucking on D again like they did before he took over. Without Exum they were the best D at the end of last year. He has to show he can still defend and he has to give them a lot more offensively.
It's easy to point at Dante Exum's offensive struggles and say, "Why should we trust a player who can't shoot?"
Nor anything else.
When Dante Exum started the Utah Jazz were 24-17, 7 games over .500. So any argument that starts with "The Utah Jazz can't win games if Dante Exum starts ... " needs to be thrown out the window. The Utah Jazz were a historic defensive wrecking ball through the NBA with Dante Exum and Rudy Gobert. They can win games and will.
They did win they may not now. Can he still defend? Hill can and a lot more that we haven't seen from the kid.
The amount of work he puts in to become better is just crazy.
Don't think he put in much last summer. He got a little bigger but the hints of an offensive game that we saw at the end of the 2015 year were gone last season until the end of the year again.
I'm personally rooting for the guy. I hope he makes it onto the opening day roster.
Why? What's the hurry? Wouldn't you rather have the best guys on the team rather than the guys you like?
Remember last summer when Dante Exum had an amazing summer league game?
Yeah and I remember him spraining his ankle than blowing out his knee. I also remember him seemingly afraid to drive to the rim in his one season and not hitting open shots.

Now comes the toughest part of the offseason–trimming the roster. The league minimum per team is 13 players and the maximum is 15 players.
Some deserving players might be cut. Others will remain with the Jazz program at their D-League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars. Players may also look for deals overseas. In any event, final decisions likely won’t be made until the end of training camp.

Should have decisions on the 2nd rounders any day I imagine. They need to be stashed.

There could still be some movement here. Ingles could be cut. There could be a trade becasue at least a couple guys aren't going to be happy riding the pine.
It’s hard to imagine finding a better backup center on the market. Withey’s defense is underrated and he’s a decent roll-man on offense. While he’s not going to lead you to wins on a nightly basis, he might surprise you.
They will have a hard time but they need to do it. Better to have someone that the coach likes down there. Only way he should surprise anyone is if he shows up and sucks. He didn't do that last year.
The fifteenth and final roster spot will be a battle between Joel Bolomboy, Tibor Pleiss, Tyrone Wallace, Marcus Paige and Chris Johnson.
The rookies won't be in camp other than maybe Bolomboy and any of them in camp have already made the team or they would just stash them.
The Jazz will look to keep Paige and Wallace in-house with the Stars, but will forfeit their rights to the rookies in doing so.
Not if they agree to play there for D-league wages and aren't in fall camp.
The second round picks miss out due to the point guard depth in the roster.
They miss out because they aren't ready. There's plenty of roster space for guys that can play.
Johnson will miss out because the Jazz have multiple players who can play on the wings.
He may be more expendable now with Hill and Exum on the wings but his energy will be hard to replace especially with Booker gone too.
if the Jazz want to keep Bolomboy, they will have to find a way to move the big German.
They are 10 million under the cap. They can cut anyone without blinking. Pleiss should be bought out now. No one in the NBA wants him I'm sure.
Bolomboy may fit the bill. Bolomboy’s activity on the glass and athleticism is too good to miss out on.
His size and experience tells me he needs to be stashed. The fact that he's a local guy may get him a spot to lead the Stars.
Alternatively, the Jazz could still find trade partners and move some assets to further reshape this roster. Pleiss, for one, is a legit stretch cnter–a sought-after commodity in the league.
Pleiss is not an NBAer. I'd guess we might take on another teams bad contract or look for some cheap options as the off-season and fall camp go like Withey last year. Withey, Pleiss and Johnson could all go.
However, the Jazz roster for next season will likely be comprised of the players that are already in-house.
There are still 3 more roster spots to fill and one spot has been filled by Ford who I could see taking Johnson's spot because of potential.

Don't get how Mack can be written off after being one of their best players. Based on what they've said him and Neto should be ahead of Hood and Burks because they play both ends. If Ingles can play like it's April in October he could make it interesting to for that matter.

Defense. He's behind Hill, Hayward, Mack and Neto(maybe Exum) right now on the perimeter. As far as the 3 I'd rather see him taking it to the hole for the mid range stuff where he really excels especially when the 3 isn't falling. Needs to get to the line more. He's their best FT shooter isn't he? Needs to be able to create for others better. He was improving there as the year went on. Rebound more. If he could play some 4 this year it would be big. Not sure why Ingles can and he can't? I'm not sure at his age he's going to improve as much as people think. Looks like a bench piece on a really good team which the Jazz should be.
