Speaking as a Laker fan I could care less about Kobe's personality, his private life or any of that.
As long as he continues to help the Lakers win that's all I care about.
Why his "personality" deserves 12 pages of conversation is baffling to me.
I do think Kobe tries too hard to be politically correct in his interviews. But I don't think his personality is contrived. I mean, he did grow up watching Jordan so it's no surprise there is some similarity between how they act on the court.
What I don't understand is why the critics bother writing stuff about him talking smack against his opponents. People have been talking smack for years. It's basketball folks. Like or it not, psychology plays a huge factor in determining outcomes of games. Just ask Phil Jackson as a coach or even KG as a player.
If they need to write articles about unsportsmanlike showboating, try Lebron James dancing on the bench during Cavalier blowouts last few seasons. There is no room for such childish behavior when games have already been decided. That's the difference.

Because, we can't discuss weather his Titles and Finals MVP's are contrived...:confusedshrug:
I'm obviously a fanboy but I don't really see any actions that lead me to believe he's fake or anything of the sort. The scowl doesn't mean his personality is contrived, I just don't see what he's done that makes you believe he does the whole Jordan like persona on purpose versus he's naturally just a similar person.
So if anyone can explain why the best perimeter player since Jordan is supposed to be the polar opposite of Jordan personality wise I'd love to hear it.

This should be illegal.
It's not. Dwight will never win anything in his career if he keeps smiling and trying to be funny on the court.
Ladies and gentlemen, I think I just found the first person who will be on my ignore list! You are the perfect candidate! Considering everything you say is utter garbage.

you can't post that.. didn't you read the thread it's only in the last two years he's been making that face since he contrived to be whatever it is they are saying he contrived...lol
i repeat no photos of kobe scowling or gritting his teeth from the early 2000's or 90's it screws with the agenda of the thread and those who have embraced it's stupidity
are you serious ?
I'm mad?
You're the one with the conspiracy theories laden with vulgarities. Please. You didn't even answer the question Jackass.
No one is using it as an argument for anything. Where do you get this stuff from? This has been one of the most cordial Kobe threads I have ever seen and you're one of the few who is messing it up with your lame ass accusations.
That guy wasn't knit picking, how many times have you seen player yell at a commentator during the game?
lol yup he definitely mad
Edit:yea who the hell cares if he's contrived? Like that has a lot to do with how he plays basketball.
OJ is a murder
Tyson a wifebeater
Ray lewis a murder
Big Ben likes to screw passed out girls
It's that type of killer mentality that makes those people winners.
lebron onthe other hand

Why this discussion went beyond even 5 pages is beyond me.
Mayhems (Cathc24), no offense man, but the answers to this thread was as predictable as can be.
The second I read this on the main forum, I expected the outcome to be like this.
The same guys who have been here for years taking shots at Kobe and wishing him failure were going to agree that Kobe is a phony or whatever, and then the same group that adores Kobe was going to defend him.
I haven't really been paying attention to Kobe when they show him on screen. I sort of tune out the Kobe mugshots and Kobe stories, and just try to watch the game.
Though what I have noticed, was that whole bit about how Kobe sometimes doesn't take any shots or create any plays for his teammates for a quarter, just to "prove" that his team sucks without him. Though, that's not really "without him", it's them minus a SG who does nothing but throw a non beneficial pass any time he gets the ball so they have to play 4 on 5 while he takes an on-court break. That whole routine was actually the first thing about Kobe that made me start to dislike his personality.
His dumb faces aren't a big deal though. He should be able to act however he wants, so long as how he's acting like a professional, and not like a teen or something. So not too much reason to be upset about faces he makes and stuff I don't think.
Jordan was actually a bigger asshole than kobe. Dude trash talked like no other and always had a mean ass look on his face. But of course its not contrived for him.
It's not, since he's always done that since the 80's, and it wasn't an act. That's how he actually was.
Do you not realize 'contrived" means "planned or forced, artificial"?
Knoe : Kobe won't ever win without Shaq
Two years later: I didn't know they would have gotten Gasol :(
Anything dude says is a joke. Didn't even read his essay.
How's life with your head in the sand? Is that hot or cold?
well, watch Kobe get stripped or lose the ball ....hell flail his arm, punch the air .. scream at the ref ,more often than any player w/o getting a tech most of the time.
Its not big deal to me, it doent make me dislike him or anything .. but he is one of the biggest babies when it comes to making mistake on offense. its just pretty clear to see...and I can see how it can rub people the wrong way.
Yeah, that's the one part of what he "does" that I always believe is real. He's always getting upset over every call even if they're legit. Gasol and Fisher do it too. Gasol's always yelling at refs, Fisher's always walking around with his hands on his hips and his head cocked to the side with a stupid look on his face like a little black girl when they pretend like they're ignoring you, to show his disdain for calls right after he's just whined about them.
Which annoys me since the Lakers get some of the best benefits from calls overall of any team in the NBA. There's a site for that somewhere, I can't find it though. Been looking for it for like 15 mins just now. Thunder I think led the league in calls-for vs calls-against last year. At least towards the end of the season. Lakers were like #4. A couple Econf teams were up there too, but I don't recall which ones they were. Wish I could find the site. :( I remember googling it after I was almost ready to puke after seeing how the refs single-handedly brought the Thunder back into a game last season. They made 3 FGs in a quarter and scored almost 30 points (off FTs). >_> And got 5 TO's off calls.
Anyway, it amazes me how they don't get T'd up for that stuff, especially when star players for other teams get ejected for laughing while sitting on the bench after a bogus call.
why does it matter....
