The New York Knicks have eight tradable first-round picks and a need and a desire for a star player like Donovan Mitchell, who is from the New York area. Some people believe this is an inevitability. It’s just a matter of what price can be negotiated. Other teams are interested in Mitchell and it can go in a different direction. They can keep Mitchell, or at least posture they’re going to keep Mitchell. But I think we’re going to hear a lot about Mitchell and the New York Knicks in the coming days. … People feel that everything the Jazz are doing right now is just an effort to elicit the best offer they can get from the Knicks.

Also on the Mitchell front, teams monitoring the situation believe the Jazz currently are prioritizing draft picks in a return for Mitchell. That’s where the Knicks come in. New York can trade up to eight of its future first-round picks in a Mitchell trade. That gives New York an edge over other Mitchell suitors – like the Miami Heat – if Utah continues to prioritize draft picks.

I'd guess they are prioritizing getting the most they can be it picks or whatever. I'd guess they may have given up a pick fromm the Twolves to get McDaniels. What players does Danny like? Does he want to pay Barrett and Reddish? If Barrett is in the deal less picks
Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
However, people in touch with the Knicks prior to the draft said the club was wary of trading the combination of picks and players that it would take to land a player like Mitchell. The thinking, according to people in touch with the club at the time, was that there wouldn’t be enough left on the roster to field a contending team. I don’t know definitively if the club’s thinking as changed since we noted this earlier in July. But I don’t believe that it has. For example: People in touch with the club recently said New York has had no interest in trading RJ Barrett in any deal.

Barrett is eligible for an extension. The deadline to agree to the extension is the day before the regular season. Both the Knicks and Barrett are optimistic about finding common ground on an extension.

New York would seem to be the clear front-runner to land Mitchell. The Knicks’ interest in the New York native has been obvious for awhile, best illustrated this past spring when members of the front office attended Utah’s opening game of the playoffs in Dallas. And after a series of trades beginning on draft night, the Knicks are now armed with 11 first-round picks in the next seven drafts plus intriguing young talent that could suit Utah’s rebuild. “New York can offer some combination of multiple picks, R.J. Barrett, Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley, and that’s probably the benchmark any team is going to have to beat in order to get Donovan Mitchell from the Jazz,” one assistant general manager told B/R.
– via Jake Fischer @ Bleacher Report
Utah’s appetite for Barrett as the key ingredient in a Mitchell trade is unclear. But an unofficial B/R poll of over two dozen NBA executives at Summer League this week indicated Barrett boasts a greater trade value across the league than Miami’s best blue-chip prospect, Tyler Herro, by a wide margin, particularly because of Barrett’s improving strengths on the defensive end. Both Barrett and Herro are eligible for extensions this summer. The Knicks are not expected to come to any conclusion in conversations on Barrett’s extension this far in advance of the October deadline, sources said.

The Celtics are not expected to have interest in dealing for Mitchell per league sources given the high price tag and their recent offseason moves. However, a number of Eastern Conference rivals are expected to make plays for Mitchell. Let’s take a closer look at some of the possibilities in play on that front and what they could mean for the Celtics.

The Celtics ideal scenario would be a lesser East squad such as the Knicks to put themselves in play for the high scoring guard, keeping Miami from firmly re-establishing themselves as a top contender in the East with another star acquisition. Other wildcard candidates out West would need to be considered as well (Dallas?) but a lot of teams around the league have already used assets on big names this summer in separate deals (Atlanta, Minnesota, etc.)

I can't see taking any of their vets. None are expiring. Only Reddish and Barrett and they would be up for extension now. Get another team involve if they have to take a seasoned vet. Needs to be expiring or a lot younger. I'd only want their young guys and assets
