Lebron played with Shaq who won league mvp and 3 finals mvp's and lost in round 2. Lebron played with Peak Duncan who had won 2 league mvp's and 3 finals mvp's and won bronze medal. Lebron played with Peak Wade who won finals mvp and got outplayed by Jason Terry. Lebron played with Derrick Rose who won mvp under age 30 which was the same as Kevin Durant who won mvp under 30 while both were on Golden State and Cleveland. Lebron played with mulitple PER leaders as well and now Russell Westbrook a league mvp winner and more triple doubles than Oscar Robertson. Yet despite all of that Lebron lost with all of them.

http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?500416-Why-did-Pelinka-surround-Lebron-with-a-bullshit-roster
He has peak Anthony Davis, the best player on the 2020 squad and the reason the Lakers did anything as the 2019 Lakers missed the playoffs and 2021 Lakers lost in round 1 when AD wasn't around. He has Prime Melo who won a scoring title and all time leader in scoring for the Olympics. He has Dwight Howard a 3x DPOY and a guy who beat Lebron without HCA. He has Westbrook who is the modern day Oscar Robertson and also won league mvp along with average a Triple Double 4 years in a row. He also has Rondo who is a hall of famer.
Why didn't he play it against Dwight Howard in 2009 when Dwight was dominating http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?459570-How-is-it-even-possible-to-lose-to-Dwight-Howard-in-a-series-with-HCA/page10? Or against Duncan or KG or Dirk? Both 0-2 with HCA against 50+ win teams until they joined forces with someone who won as the man. Also won bronze medals.
Tmac lost to Utah in 2007 while Lebron was losing to a career loser in Dwight Howard and also Carlos Arroyo in the Olympics with peak Tim Duncan on his squad despite playing more minutes than Hakeem even played on the 1996 Olympic team.

Why did the jury take so long doe? Probably rigged... by LeGOAT himself. What a humble God
Just a friendly reminder.
Read it and weep, Bronies.
Nothing wrong with being no.2, it's an incredible achievement, not even being snarky.
It should be Shaq at no.2 IMO if he had taken better care of his body, getting to no.2 is no small feat.
If someone is like the no.2 best shooter ever after Steph Curry, it's not like there's any shame in that, that's great.
LeBron needed to win more titles in that Miami period specifically. Only 2 was not enough. If you are the GOAT, you should have at least one threepeat on your resume because multiple other stars do it, so why didn't you.
But really we just need to stop contextualizing everything as "Jordan or bust", it's too tall of a mountain to climb and frankly to get there Jordan was borderline psychotic in term's of his competiveness, I'm not really even sure that's healthy. How are you supposed to match that intensity, dude will go balls to the wall even when he's playing like coin tossing (lol, take it down a notch MJ).

If Jordan, Russell, Shaq, Kobe could manage 3 titles in a row, then I think if you really want to claim yourself as GOAT you should have that, or you should more aggregate rings at least (like 7-8). And yeah this same thing is going to apply to this Webamnamya kid, if that's what his goal is, then that's where he needs to go. I don't envy that.
Like you can't just be below in those categories and then just name yourself the best.
2nd best is an incredible achievement too, I don't think it should be belittled as it is, like I said if someone is the 2nd best shooter after Curry, they have nothing to be embarrassed about.
People act like there's some solid rules in place that everyone has to obey when in reality it's much more subjective. I respect your opinion though.

I remember one time a friend of mine said Kobe was his GOAT and I was about to say a bunch of reasons why he wasn't and he just said "I just think how he approached the game was fascinating to me. I'd pay to watch him practise". And you know what ... I couldn't really say anything to that. He's right. There is greatness in that.
And if Jordan and LeBron were in a gym with Kobe, for sure there would be days where he would cook both of them. So would Bird. So would Shaq. So would Wilt probably, so would Hakeem, etc. etc. etc.
There's lots of great players. No one player or two players or three players have a monopoly on greatness in the sport.
GOAT is 50% who actually is the best, and 50% who was your favorite player growing up to some extent.

exactly, I keep telling them this mother-son thing doesn't work, and people won't get over the fact that there's nothing sexual about breast feeding
Although I will say it is a bit surprising to me that kids who were born like post 1995 will still vote Jordan as GOAT, now that's not entirely without merit, it's easy enough these days to go on Youtube and find out a lot about a player and look at the numbers and all that.
The crappy part is we really don't have enough footage of players like Wilt and Bill Russell, especially in their peak/primes. I'd love to be able to watch Wilt in his peak and really get a better idea of how strong/fast/skilled he was.
I'd love to be able to watch Wilt in his peak and really get a better idea of how strong/fast/skilled he was.
still though, you'd be far more interested in how he got to be so strong/fast/skilled than what the combination of strong/fast/skilled look like, wouldn't you

Kobe had a legendary work ethic. It amazed me at how LeBron and D-Wade were shocked at how hard he worked. I forgot his personal trainer's name, but he is legendary too. He trained with MJ, Kobe and D-Wade. He said, Kobe worked harder than MJ, but MJ worked smarter. Kobe wanted to know how many hrs did MJ put in, and he wanted to do more than that.
He improved on the smallest things when almost every season. But Kobe problem was that he would break the offense a lot and try to take over and play hero ball. But honestly, I think he would be better now due to all the spacing than back then.
Anyway, I think the goat list should be rated in tiers than an actual 1, 2, 3 list.
Curry has as many titles as Lebron despite playing less years.

Agreed. Kobe's work ethic is insane (literally). I mean I get working hard but you really need to wake up at 4 AM to start training? It's a bit much, lol.
MJ worked hard, but probably smarter than Kobe.
The one thing I didn't quite like about MJ was that he stopped dunking and scoring as much athletically later in his career. I get it, he was 100% against load management and basically played almost every game in a 3 peat, and to do that past age 32/33 would require some changes, but still I wish he still played with a bit more reckless abandon.

GOAT is a purely subjective concept, and anyone can choose their GOAT based on whatever criteria their little heart desires. For example, you can say that Lebron is the GOAT because he has the most choke jobs and turnovers of all time if you wish.
However, it is an objective fact that the overwhelming majority of fans rank MJ as the GOAT.
Truth hurts.

Only because fans that grew up with Wilt have probably all died or are too old to be bothered with sports debates. You're probably too young to understand the concept the same thing will happen to MJ once his fans "age out" of the shit we do on these message boards and social media etc. All this shit goes through cycles. By the end of '96, Jordan was already the majority opinion GOAT. Lebron's in the twilight of his career, and all chances of catching Jordan are long past. The two aren't even close to the same.

This is where lack of self awareness shows. In 96(and honestly it was more like 98 not 96, I was there.) it was unanimous for us young Mj stans, just like the Lebron goat supporters today for the most part. There still existed older, more mature fans that still thought someone else was goat, we just didn't think they knew what the hell they were talking about. And plus we were all in air Jordan's how could you tell us otherwise? Lol.
