Amazing talents but just weird fits overall.
- little spacing between your Cs and PFs.
- How valuable is Russell on defense when you have my guy Rasheed pulling him away from the rim?
- GOAT tier shooting from you guards but bad defense.
- How valuable is a guy like Ewing when you have Shaq already playing nearly 40 mpg?
1. I don't think it's a big deal. There are teams even today that get away with two non-shooters, such as GSW, San Antonio and Miami. I think Nash and Miller alleviate these concerns to a degree, and I have Malone and Ewing on the bench. Both of them are good mid-range shooters.
It all comes down to the matchups and the offensive scheme we run. I'd have Bill playing like Draymond in the half-court: setting screens and passing. I envision him screening for Reggie or Nash, getting the ball on the short roll/elbow, and playing a high-low game with Shaq who has the alley-oop/post seal.
Even if he is a slight negative in the half-court, I still think his GOAT-level defense and transition game was too great to pass up.
2. Rasheed isn't a good enough 3pt shooter that it matters that much. Bill's recovery and closeout speed will suffice. Even if it were, I could change up my defensive scheme or lineup. However, I back the GOAT defensive player.
3. Guard defense isn't that great of a concern compared to other more essential needs. I've still got 3 picks left and there are plenty of guys I can get perimeter defense from. I needed extreme levels of shooting, gravity, spacing, and creation from Nash and Reggie to make up for the lack of spacing upfront.
4. I'd rather play a more spread distribution of minutes. Some nights Shaq's going to play less. It all depends on the matchups. Ewing was too great of a player for me to pass up. His combination of defense and offensive versatility made him a no-brainer in my opinion.
I’m gonna take Pau Gasol.
PG: Isiah Thomas
SG: Klay Thompson
SF: Julius Erving
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
6: Manu Ginobili
7: Pau Gasol

I think putting Russell at the 4 instead of the 5 limits his overall impact. He's not like a draymond who in his prime provided some shooting, playmaking, and ability to guard multiple positions on the floor. Russell was your classic rim protector, probably the GOAT at it. With Shaq in there it kinda takes that away to some degree.
I also believe since Russell can't really shoot, you are making it harder for Shaq on offense, Russell's man can help out more with Shaq without facing much consequences.
Just my 2 cents.

40 minutes, so why even have bench guys if the starters are playing 40 minutes?
I'm on the outside looking in so maybe that was discussed in a previous thread.
Are we not picking the 10 best guys available or who fits a team?
I've seen guys like Gobert picked over Hall of Famers that have yet to be selected (recent guys, not guys from the 1950s.)

Good point, but how do you feel about McHale being picked before Karl Malone? I know how much you hate McHale. :lol

Funny thing is I'm Still Ballin picked him lol. But then Billups got picked before Oscar Robertson so, I guess.
And who hates McHale, dudes overrated but I'm not hijacking this thread lol.

Sure, I agree regarding the shooting and passing, although I think Bill was a good facilitator. Regarding the defense, I think one of Bill's strengths was his mobility. He could provide tremendous help defense, being everywhere, like Robinson and KG. My true pick was going to be KG but he was taken a few picks before.
I feel like they're both so dominant on one side of the court that even if the fit isn't perfect, you're still rock-solid on both ends. At the very least, I've got some options with Malone and Ewing off the bench. I just feel so strongly in Bill's defensive prowess and athletic mobility.
I think it also depends on the era that games will be played in. My lineup would murder teams in the '60s and '70s. It would also be great in the Illegal Defense era where the rules enforced a degree of spacing.
