Everyone should be headed this way to get ready for the season before long now. A vet mini-camp and two roster spots to go. Right now it appears it's down to Withey and Pleiss for the final roster spot though I think both should go and they should get Hawes if he's still available. Thank you Chris Johnson. I'm sure someone will want you on their roster.
I'm thinking they will be resting guys this year. The roster makes more sense than. Exum and Alec sitting on back to backs maybe or even not being in the rotation until they are ready? Joe Johnson too though his minutes will be decreased by a lot as it is I imagine. Rudy coming back from the Olympics can get himself right first. He looked tired last year and it might have led him to getting hurt where he got his rest. The Spurs didn't rest Diaw because he is in bad shape but I could see the Jazz only going with 3 of their bigs some nights and playing smaller. Hayward won't have to play through injuries like he has the past couple of years. They'll be able to compete while resting guys. The Spurs way.

No one wants Pleiss. Only reason he hasn't already been bought out is because they hope to throw him in on some deal( and he can shoot! :lol). Can see them keeping him until the trade deadline. Let's hope not but it would be very Jazzish. Withey has to have value to someone. He's too good. Chris Johnson is gone unless another move is made though.
Pleiss is guaranteed at around $3 million dollars for the 2016-17 campaign. Cutting him and paying him not to play for the team is probably not the ideal course of action for Lindsey and the Jazz.
No it's not ideal but with 10 million in cap room it's what has to happen if they can't find a sucker before the season starts.
The ability and efficiency of four Jazz starters last season could never be questioned.
Sure it could. Not sure I'd put Hood above Mack or Neto. There's a lot more to the game than scoring.
Although, one hole that made life difficult for Utah was finding consistent production from the point guard spot. The two point guards that played regularly were Raul Neto and Shelvin Mack.
Neto and Mack were two of their best players.
That won’t be the case this season as both Neto and Mack will likely have their minutes restricted with Exum and Hill on board.
We'll see. Hard for me to see their best playmaker(maybe their two best?) not playing.
Not only will this improve the starting five, but it should also play a role in giving the Jazz one of the strongest benches in the league after struggling with a lack of depth last season.
Not convinced Hill starting instead of Mack makes them better. Hill starting over Hood I see being better.
Although, unlike many, I find it very hard to see Hill keeping that starting role when Exum returns to full health.
Exum is supposed to be 100% now. I find it very hard to see a one dimensional player who maybe can't even do that after his injury even being on the floor.
Even if Hill fits to a tee the way that Jazz coach Quin Snyder runs things in Utah, it’s hard to imagine him staying for years to come, given the terms of his contract. This is where Exum can establish himself as the ‘point guard of the future’ in Utah.
I don't think they give up a lottery pick if they didn't plan on Hill being around for a few years. Exum has shown very little actual pg skills. Where do people get this stuff anyway? He was drafted high. He played some D. Other than that what has he shown anyone that they would keep saying shit like this? :facepalm
Burks isn’t really a free agent acquisition, but his return will surely have the impact of one.
Burks was a premiere candidate for Sixth Man of the Year before a broken leg kept him out for the majority of last season. He is the very definition of a spark plug with how he can score in flurries and keep defenses on their toes. His job coming off the bench next season will be to provide a scoring punch and an injection of energy for Jazz players and fans.
I really think his days might be numbered. Lindsey didn't draft him. He doesn't really fit on either end of the court.
It will be a big adjustment for Johnson to come off the bench next season, after he started in each of the last 997 games he played over the course of 12 years, but the veteran looks ready to transition into a new role.
I think he could start
In looking at the frontcourt, it’s no secret that Diaw will be playing limited minutes behind Favors, Lyles and Rudy Gobert.
Not sure Lyles plays more than Diaw really. Lyles had some nice moments last year but he's still got a lot to prove. As far as I can tell players will actually have to earn minutes this year. They won't be given anymore.
Meanwhile, Lyles is just an incredible talent to have coming off the bench. It’s almost unfair to have a possible future All-Star in reserve behind Favors and Gobert, but that’s just what the Jazz have.
Yeah it's unfair to have a guy who was wildly inconsistent on the bench. :wtf:
Lyles’ summer league performance was something to see. I know what your thinking–it was only the summer league. Nevertheless, the way he ran the show on both ends of the floor was very promising.
Both ends? He scored a lot. Shot well. Didn't do much else.
The big question with Lyles heading into his second season will be his defense; he’s slightly undersized for a power forward and shies away from contact on occasion.
He's hardly undersized.
However, when Lyles fills out and becomes a better interior defender, he could eventually become a threat to Favors’ starting role.
Looks to me like he needs to get in a lot better shape. He's plenty big. After Exum I think the biggest thing to watch is how Gobert/Favors compares to Gobert/Lyles. If the latter becomes comparable to the former Favors is gone.
Lyles (a premiere bench player that could soon become a starter).
He should have been in the D-league last year and now he's a premier bench player? What do we base this on? Summer league? :coleman:
The Golden State Warriors are the only team that really pose a threat to Utah’s bench. Even so, I give the Jazz a slight edge because the Warriors don’t have one big man who can come in and be a gamechanger.
My bench is even better!
http://purpleandblues.com/2016/08/24/deep-dives-rodney-hood/
Utah Jazz wing Rodney Hood has quickly become one of the better shooting guards in the NBA. How good can he be next season?
Is he even the best on his own team? I see his numbers going down. Hopefully efficiency goes up. I think he could be traded too if he doesn't like the new bench role I predict or he doesn't show he can do something other than score. Too much talent on the team.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that the team has acquired center Tibor Pleiss, two 2017 second-round draft picks and cash considerations from the Utah Jazz in exchange for Kendall Marshall. The Sixers will receive the most and least favorable of the four 2017 second-round picks currently held by Utah (their own, in addition to those of Detroit, Golden State and New York).
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865661065/Report-Jazz-acquire-guard-Kendall-Marshall-from-Sixers-for-Tibor-Pleiss-picks.html
Makes a bit more sense. Marshall's contract wasn't guaranteed until today. Pleiss had another 500,000 at least due next year. Thus the cash. With only 4 picks next year and hopefully stashed Wallace they potentially have 5 guys going for at most a couple of spots next year.
Bolomboy, an athletic power forward out of Weber State, has impressed the Jazz with his work ethic, demeanor and play during summer league and is now expected to make the opening night roster
He already made it. They aren't giving him all that money to cut him. He's their 5th big and could possibly move up to 3rd or even 2nd when Favors goes.
Utah envisions Bolomboy replacing some of the energy and athleticism the team lost when Trevor Booker left for the Brooklyn Nets in free agency this summer
