There won't be many better offers from teams dwight would actually want to play for.
then let him walk, why take on pieces that you can't build around. Now if the Lakers can get a 3rd team involved that can offer young pieces/picks then it becomes more realistic.

Why not test run Bynum for a year seeing as he has a team option after 2012 and see how he works out as a 1st option in the post?
Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
Kobe couldn't handle being the second best player on the roster (behind Shaq), how will he fair being the third best? Not ripping on Kobe, but obviously Paul and Howard are superior players to Bryant at this stage in their respective careers. Also Mike Brown wouldn't be able to handle the egos of Bryant and Howard (I don't think CP's is such a problem).
Not the same.
Neither Paul or Dwight really require the ball that much to be effective, and Kobe will still be the leader of a team with all 3.

Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
kupchak is secretive but this is hard one to pull off
but if done...cp3 + dwight + kobe = done for league. at the very least, the next five ships fall between LA, miami and chi. maybe NY, OK, memphis can sneak one in there. you're done, son.

building a championship team is about getting elite super star talent and building around them. I just don't see why any rebuilding team would want Bynum he seems to be a piece for a team that is in playoff contention to complement their star players.

Quite honestly I agree. I don't see Bynum as a guy who is going to lead them to a ring but in this era of limited centers i dont see how taking a shot on Bynum can be bad. He was sometimes as low as the 4th option on the lakers and if he gets enough shots he could be a 18+ and 10 guy. If he is injured again at worst they just don't pick up his option after the year. If he plays well they can keep him or trade him for some valuable pieces
Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
I can understand why someone might want Bynum, since he's relatively young, has a lot of potential, and has an expiring contract. Doesn't hurt he's pretty good when he's healthy either, and that he's probably always going to have value because he's arguably the second best center in the league. I don't understand why anyone would want Pau Gasol though... he's on the downside of his career and has a lot of money left on his contract.

Until he's given that chance who knows how good Bynum can be.

He's been in the league awhile now and while he has shown flashes I don't think it has been enough to be a guy you want to build your team around. You Lakers fans have seen him the most and honestly how confident would you be in building your team around Bynum. I think the better route would be let Howard go for nothing if you can't get a favorable deal and draft your next main piece in the top 3-5 the following season. With all that being said I know it doesn't mean much seeing as I'm not a GM.

I don't think letting Howard walk is the answer. The public backlash would suck if that happened. They'd also win more games with Howard than not, when if he's leaving you'd almost rather just rebuilding and hope for a high lottery pick. I don't know if Andrew Bynum is the answer per say, but Orlando should definitely trade Dwight if they don't think they're gonna be able to resign him.

Business wise it wouldn't make sense losing him for nothing. Not when it can be avoided.
Bynum has the talent and sometimes playing with other very good bigs can hurt a guy's development. Not saying he would be a top player but who knows until he is more of a focal point.
Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
When I saw this I shook my head even as a Laker fan but then I really thought about it, this shit could really go down if a 3rd team is involved. Its pretty clear both NO & ORL want Bynum as the main piece in return for their stars so that leaves no one wanting Gasol. I'm thinking the Lakers should try to get the Warriors involved and ask about their interest in a Pau for Monta Ellis deal then the lakers could try to offer this:
Lakers gets: Dwight & Paul
Orlando gets: Bynum & Odom
NO gets: Monta Ellis + picks
Warriors gets: Pau + maybe Bass or Anderson
Idk how that would work cap wise but that's a pretty could rough offer imo cause if your NO or Orlando you can't realisticlly get a better deal then that and Marc Jackson knows how vital it is to have a great big man so I believe he'd be open to linking up Curry + Pau.

Agreed that trading is preferable but if the team is not going to get workable pieces then letting him walk and tanking for a top 3 pick wouldn't be that bad a option. I guess they could trade for Bynum hope he stays healthy(big if) and trade him the following year for some pieces.

Well Bynum does have a team option down the line a year before his deal expires I believe.
