My personal belief is that this case was a tool used in an already pre-existing tension between ethnicities in this country.


I do not believe George at his core is a "racist". I believe he profiled to a degree however.


Now, the media played the card they played for attention.


We all saw it. The initial reports made it seem like this grown man in a mug shot shot this small child at 13 in his football uniform. The media played the strings of an already high tension situation.



What we have to figure out is why is it high tension?


People need to talk about this and come to conclusions.

I watched this panel on MSNBC with LeVar Burton, Tim Weiss, and a few other people. It was about the "N word". While I can't say I agreed entirely with everything they discussed, LeVar did discuss the things he was taught about how to interact with police as a black male. As an example, he mentioned how whenever he is pulled over in his car, he makes sure to place both of his hands so they are hanging out of the car window. It's clearly visible he has no weapons, or whatever.

How many white people do you think do that when the cops pull them over?

Tim Weiss mentioned a story about him breaking into his own car because he locked himself out. A cop pulls up, helps him unlock it, never asks if it's his car or if he can show him any proof that it's his car.

Hell, that show "What Would You Do?" or whatever on ABC where they put people in situations to see how they would react? They did a video where two groups of kids (white and black) would beat up on a car and we would see who called the police on them. Well, the white kids were first, and they were beating up on the car. Lots of people saw them. And someone [i]did[/i] call the police. Except, they didn't call the police on the white kids. They called the police on the black kids, who were waiting in a vehicle, sleeping, for it to be their return.

As a white guy, I'm not going to walk around with my head bowed, acting guilty and ashamed about acts that were perpetrated by other people. I like to be honest about history. But I won't deny that I have benefited from it. And continue to.

Ok, this post is incredibly ignorant and also pretty racist. You have already grouped together all white people as being 'Caucasian' and then listed all the evils perpetrated by these evil white people. Well, where do i fit in in this narrow perception of the world? I am white, but i am also Polish, and live in the UK (with dual citizenship and family in Florida). My ancestors will have had nothing to do with any of those things you listed. My father's Grandfather spent the war in a nazi camp, and my Grandparents grew up in wartime Warsawa, which was completely obliterated by the nazis.

After the war, Poland was sacrificed to years of backwardness by the US and UK to appease Stalin. The country has still not recovered, and the remnants of those years still remain. So my family moves to the UK, they work hard, do pretty well, and integrate effectively. Yet whenever i pass the news stands there is constant racist material disparaging immigrants from Eastern Europe, which is all ok to the rest of the media, because, we are white. Yet do i hold these things against all Britons and Americans in general? Do i blame them for it? Do i keep complaining about 'American' privilege (you're included in this one btw) or 'British' privilege? Of course i bloody don't, and neither should you.

Now, i feel no more allegiance to the descendants of slaves, or those of slave holders, because i know that these people have nothing to do with their ancestors, and it is absolutely absurd to bring up something from several hundred years ago (or even a single generation for that matter) as if it has ANY bearing on the characters of the people of today.

So where do i fit in this white/black, oppressors/oppressed dichotomy you seem so hellbent on pursuing and believing in?
