Croatia’s tower of strength declares that FIBA EuroBasket 2022 will be the end of the line for his international career. Not an irrevocable call, of course. Always time for a change of heart, albeit he is now 33 old and it’s been a dozen summers since he made his debut as a fledgling star at FIBA Basketball World Cup 2010, in Turkey.
maybe they do have their cornerstone? Who knows. No one was talking about Gobert in 2013-14

Favors, by the way, is still on the Thunder’s roster. He’s due $10.2 million this season on an expiring contract.
be gone by the deadline
The pick Utah sent to OKC in the Favors’ trade is top-10 protected in 2024. If Utah’s pick falls from No. 11 to No. 30, it conveys to Oklahoma City.
very unlikely
If the pick doesn't convey to the Thunder in 2024, it moves back to 2025 with the same top-10 protections. Who knows where the league will be by then, but there’s a chance the Jazz will still be amid its rebuild.
no reason to think they won't suck still
Odds are the Jazz pick will convey to the Thunder in one of those three years, but the trades of Gobert and Mitchell have certainly dampened OKC’s odds.

optimistic. They will suck for quite a while likely

Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
Sounds to me like the best offer was early on before they signed Mitchell Robinson to his extension. Robinson, Barrett and at least 3 unprotected. The Knicks picks will likely be better even if it was just two unprotected. Than The Knicks didn't seem to want to give up anything. They played it right. Mitchell doesn't do that much for them especially after signing Brunson. For the Cavs it makes more sense. The GM's being buds probably made it easy to get Sexton's deal done. The Jazz knew exactly what he wanted already.
Tony Jones for The Athletic said the offers were basically slowly getting worse, with the last offer the Knicks made making them go straight to the Cavs to start a deal. Basically the Knicks thought they were the only ones who could get a deal done, so it'd get close and then the Knicks would take something out hoping to get the Jazz to buckle. Jazz always said they have other offers and Knicks didn't believe them, so felt safe playing chicken.

https://thejnotes.com/2022/09/03/grading-the-donovan-mitchell-trade-for-the-utah-jazz/
Ultimately, this was a deal the Jazz had to make, and the return was more than solid, and even if none of the players in return end up being at the level of Donovan Mitchell, the sheer volume of assets can help them trade for a star in the future, or gives them plenty of extra shots to draft a star. Was this a perfect trade? By all means, no. But was this a trade that the Jazz needed to make so they could move on with the future of the franchise and begin building for the next successful era in Utah basketball? Yes.
Sexton is already close to Mitchell and two years younger and 60 million in savings! The lottery pick this year has better size. Shot better. Has to play more D. I'd be surprised if they don't end up with multiple players comparable to Mitchell. Will there be another Gobert is the question? Much tougher to find the franchise player

I think Ochai is a 2. Be nice if he was a 1 with Sexton's game
I highly doubt Ochai Agbaji will start over Mike Conley, but I think veterans like Stanley Johnson, Malik Beasley, and Rudy Gay will be relegated to the end of the bench in favor of some younger guys.
no sense having Beasley on the team if he's not playing. I have him as the starter once Clakson is gone
Your missing some guys but who cares when you're doing an article on their roster I guess! :facepalm
Udoka/Kessler
Markkanen/Vanderbilt/Johnson
Fontecchio/Alexander-Walker/Bolmaro/Juzang/
Beasley/Horton-Tucker/Agbaji/Sneed
Sexton/Butler
It’s also worth noting that the Jazz are probably not done making moves. Beasley, Clarkson, Conley, Bogdanovic, and Rudy Gay all have some amount of trade value. As the current roster stands, this is the depth chart, but expect movement and guys like Johnny Juzang to move up from the G-League Stars as the season goes on.
why would we expect a team full of young guys to go to a two way guy unless injuries dictate it? Many guys ahead of Juang right now. 17 guaranteed contracts!
Their current roster has a lot of scoring potential, and if Kessler can become a solid defender then the Jazz have their blueprint for the future. They need a star, but odds are they’ll find one with their seemingly endless new draft picks.
odds aren't that high. Look at Jazz history. And not all stars are the same. Gobert carried a franchise. Mitchell rode his coattails. Who's the next guy you can build around? Maybe it's someone already here? Always fun to see who rises to the top as Gobert did with Hayward, Kanter, Favors and Burks

Charlotte Hornets: While they did make a competitive offer for Donovan Mitchell that drew some interest within Utah’s front-office, according to a league source, the Charlotte Hornets find themselves where they have been all offseason long – trying to find ways to move forward and be a competitive team in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte has expressed interest in bringing back former All-Star guard Kemba Walker, assuming he is bought out by the Detroit Pistons.

Michael Scotto: Let’s start by looking at this for the Cavaliers that left. Ideally, Collin Sexton’s camp wanted $20 million annually. Getting $18 million annually is a win overall for a guy that missed most of last season with a torn meniscus. From what I heard, Cleveland was not willing to go above the luxury tax or move assets like a draft pick of some kind to shed Cedi Osman’s salary theoretically to pay Sexton closer to that $18 million annual range. In the end, with Sexton prepared to take the qualifying offer for this season and unrestricted free agency looming next summer, Cleveland didn’t want to lose him for nothing. By including Sexton in the Donovan Mitchell trade, it worked out well for both slides.
His value isn’t super high, but this is what I envision a trade looking like. The trade would have to happen after October 10th, since Gallinari is a recently signed player, but by taking an injured Gallinari, the Jazz manages to get a first-round pick for a player who might not be worth it.

No thanks on Bertans
The Jazz have 17 on their roster, we need to get rid of 2 not bring in 3 for 1
doubt that is a big concern. Competition is good
Bojan, Mike, and Rudy are good as gone. Though it might take a while to trade Gay, since the likeliest trade for him is Boston and Danilo Gallinari can't be traded until October. However, I don't see the Jazz getting a first-round pick for him as Boston has other players/options they can consider. At this point, I'd be willing to trade him straight across for an injured Gallinari — just to be rid of him
yep. Getting rid of him and not giving assets would be a deal to take
I hope the Jazz keep Clarkson — at least for a while. If he ends up being the sole remaining veteran with more than 3 years experience, he'll become the alpha-male on a team full of youngsters — which I suspect will drive his trade value through the roof by the trading deadline.
might make him untradable. I want no part of it that is for sure. Never did! Rather have Dante
Beasley and Fontecchio are young enough to be part of the rebuild and both could be our starters, give them Conley, Bogey and Clarkson for that same deal plus Munk.
probably all gone by the trade deadline

let's hope not. Clarkson starting over Conley or Beasley? Unproven rookie over someone who has shown something?

too bad they weren't in love with him when the Mitchell Robinson deal was offered. He'll be better than Mitchell

When Utah Jazz center Udoka Azubuike arrived at the Basketball Without Borders Africa camp held in Cairo, Egypt in late August, the significance of his presence there wasn’t initially apparent to him. Sure, it was his first time back on the African continent since he emigrated from Nigeria to the United States about 10 years ago, but that itself didn’t put him in an overly sentimental mood.

Just seeing the kids, seeing them practice and work hard, just seeing the joy on their faces,” Azubuike told The Salt Lake Tribune in a Zoom interview from Cairo. “These kids don’t have a lot, but they are super-grateful, they’re excited for the opportunity. … They’re trying to learn and get better. It just puts stuff in perspective.”
While Conley was relatively solid last season (72 games played, 40.8 percent shooting from three-point range), the Jazz may struggle to find a team willing to take on his contract. “He’s over the hill,” one executive said. “His production is not worth [his salary].”

He's hardly over the hill and he earned that money last regular season. He did suck in the playoffs. Put the ball back in his hands with some size next to him and he'll be fine.

John Gambadoro: Phoenix being good does work against them in competing for players as their 1st-round pick(s) are not expected to be as good as others.
The Sacramento Kings have been tanking, trying to win but ultimately losing, for decades. Despite all their efforts, they’ve never landed that franchise piece. As fine players as were DeMarcus Cousins and Tyreke Evans, as solid as De’Aron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton are, none were THAT guy and it’s kept them in the doldrums all this time.
and yet Cousins was an all NBAer that was hyped as one of the best!
The Utah Jazz tried that avenue with Mike Conley who turned out to be an excellent veteran, but not the “right” one.
Not sure he wasn't right. Max contract Mitchell and a coach that refused to make adjustments in the playoffs for whatever bizarre reason were the bigger issues. Conley was the best fit next to their franchise player Gobert they had at that position by far. It needed to be Mitchell but wasn't
