Re: Thunder vs. Pacers NBA Finals Game Thread
Imo the Heat being down 2-0 & 13 midway through the 4th in '06 would probably be my top choice, they were truly left for dead at that point.
The Mavs returning the favor 5 years later down 1-0 and 15 on the road midway through the 4th would be up there.
And one that will probably be forgotten about in time because they eventually lost, but Klay's Game 6 in OKC definitely deserves a mention.

They've played like this all playoffs and have outlasted everyone. Not sure why you say it happens.

If we are going way back maybe 1977 Blazers vs Sixers in the Finals. Blazers were down 2-0 and came back to win 4 straight.
That Maurice Lucas/Dawkins fight changed the series.

2021 bucks also did a backdoor sweep after dropping the first two games in the finals. Doesn't seem to be as epic though.

Shooting-wise perhaps but Turner had been in Chet's head quite a bit. Even if the numbers weren't there if you take one of the best players on the other team off his game then you've done well, which he had.
Chet stepped up though and with that OKC seemed to get their swag back. We'll see if it lasts but it looks good.

I haven't forgotten that, because in an alternate reality Klay doesn't come through in the 4th quarter, OKC beats Warriors in six, they win the ring and the history of the league gets altered completely. KD wins a ring with OKC and his legacy (and Westbrook's, by the way) is seen 100% differently, he doesn't join Golden State so that dinasty doesn't happen, LBJ needs more seasons to win one for the 'land, etc. So many things could have been different it is frightening.

I like how you automatically assume they beat peak LeBron and the Cavs. I 100% favor the Cavs in that hypothetical matchup

I am a big LeBron fan, but that 2016 Cavs team was not that good to be honest. They had 36 years old Richard Jefferson starting, for example. They were also old. The only reason they won is a series of circumstances (Draymond's suspension, some injuries, etc.). The OKC of 2016 was a really, really good team and they were very focused, I think if they beat the Warriors they would have won the ring, because they would feel really confident also.

The OKC team had good defense and a fluke shooting series from their role players through 5 games.
They had atrocious spacing, Roberson is genuinely one of the worst offensive SGs in history. They were playing Dion Waiters heavy minutes.
Cavs had LeBron, Kyrie, and Love all healthy with home court advantage.
I take the Cavs, you know, the team that actually did win the title that season.
-
Re: Thunder vs. Pacers NBA Finals Game Thread
I just rewatched the last 7 minutes of the game and it's some of the best defense I've ever watched from OKC. The level of intensity and discipline was just crazy. Pretty cool to see a team win a game almost solely off defense in 2025. They made 3 three pointers and 10 assists for the entire game which doesn't sound real

That's how it was in 2020 for the Lakers. Lowest Finals ratings in history. Almost half the viewership of the Pacers/Thunder series so far. The only thing people care about from the 2020 Finals is making sure people know it was an asterisks year and if COVID didn't happen the Lakers would've never won it.

lol, Cavs were a lot more trustable than OKC, had a better best and better 2nd best player.

Re: Thunder vs. Pacers NBA Finals Game Thread
Saw the highlights, comments mention the refs everywhere. Can trusted ISH posters confirm if theres anything to it? It did seem weird when it looked like Indy was winning and then it cut to a 2 pt game again, so prob some FT binges inbetween that for OKC.
SGA 10 FTs again looks murky.

they definitely favored OKC. there was a very obvious foul shai comitted in the 4th and scored on it after fouling+traveling right in front of the ref...
doris burke's comment on that play specifically "that was a travel and possibly offensive foul but man, what a shot" :facepalm
then on the other end, indy players were getting fouled and not getting the calls.
yes, we even had a very blatant foul where one of the OKC players runs into an indy defender, shoots the shot then the refs hold their whistle until they see if the shot when in or not and call it after it missed...commentators "boy, that was a really late whistle"

Yea I saw that too. SGA is allowed to chicken wing guys but if you breathe on him he'll flop and its a foul. Numerous other calls where I was like yup... theyre nudging okc to win this one. Indy should've known that though and played a harder 4th quarter.

Jalen Williams is pretty frustrating how hes allowed to barrell into the lane like bull in China shop and refs give him the call every time for contact he created. And then you've got SGA the finesse flopper. There like fire and ice James Harden. :lol
Hard to beat when your superstars get vastly less calls. Siakam and Haliburton get zero whistles compared to these guys. Only way to win when youre dogged this bad is to get hot from 3 and even that might not be enough.

yeah i got the feeling too. indy has some blame in losing this since they had plenty of opportunities to create a bigger lead and pull away. however, the refs seemed like they wanted to step on their heels whenever the lead kept growing.

Shaq got away with offensive fouls on Mutombo in the nba finals. I as a fan had to eat it. I as a fan had to listen to folks say the Sixers got smoked. I was told to get over it. Nothing ever came about Shaq blatantly offensive fouls until years later when refs started calling them fouls. What’s my point? Get over it.

They sucked in the fourth. All they had to do was to maintain their lead. But yes, the game was also rigged against them in their own floor.
