Re: Charles Barkley: Zimmer was right to be acquitted
Yea that was not the best way to phrase it. To be fair though aggression is a part of human nature
That's a little unfair on women i think. It's more a part of male nature.
Does that make me a sexist? Amazing you can get called sexist these days for saying that men and women are different.
Re: Charles Barkley: Zimmer was right to be acquitted
Larry Elder is a right wing blowhard, just like everyone else, he is using this to build his own name. Charles Barkley gave an answer to an interview. Different circumstances, and different motives.
The trouble with this case is the system, and I think that is what has peopel so frustrated.
-under the laws of Florida, GZ is innocent, and his lawyers wove the story the right way.
The above gives the Zimmerman backers 100% empowerment in this argument and forces them to have a 'case closed' mentality.
-minorities once again getting f*cked by the system.
This makes blacks (in this situation) and sympathizers even more angry and desperate, a feeling of 'here we go again' or 'will we ever get a fair shake' overcomes them and they feel a need to do something.
The trouble is that the law is shaky, Mr. Zimmerman was portrayed to be unrealistically weak and pathetic, and one could also say that perhaps Trayvon Martin was 'standing his ground.'
GZ was older, armed and in a position of authority (though in a rent-a-cop kind of way).
GZ got out of his SUV.
GZ was told by a dispatcher not to pursue.
But most importantly TM died at the hands of GZ in a confrontation that GZ initiated.
A youth is dead, and no one is paying except the victim, and what's worse the victim is now the villain.
So while the 'law' was upheld (based on the evidence presented) it doesn't pass the sniff test.
Its like the Amare suspension a couple of years ago, the letter of the law was followed when we should have focused more on the spirit of the law.
I think a lesser manslaughter charge would have been the best way forward.
Lmao did you just call black people a minority race?
Re: Charles Barkley: Zimmer was right to be acquitted
Well, yeah. Blacks represent 12% of the American population but they are responsible for over 50% of all murders and over 60% of all violent crime.
Do you think people just wake up and create things out of thin air or do you think there is something behind it. Racism is the ultimate conspiracy theory.
I used to work with a black guy named Charles. He had been in a gang as a teenager, had the gold teeth, scars from stab wounds, etc. He got out of that life. He was a happy go lucky guy. We played a lot of ball together.
One day someone pulls a gun on him outside of work over a girl. Charles takes the gun away, beats his ass, then throws him out of a second floor window.
The story made the papers. Charles was fired immediately with no explanation. No charges were ever filed against him. Would he have been fired if he was white?
One day i was at a mini-tour golf event as a spectator. I went into the pro shop to buy something. The PGA tour event was on the tv. Tiger Woods had just turned pro and had won his first event the week before.
A little old white lady in front of me asked who was leading the PGA tour event. When the kid behind the counter said "Tiger" the old lady said "i wish he had stayed an amateur". I didn't understand then noticed the kid looking down. Then it hit me why she was against Tiger.

Who knows? Would he have been fired if he hadn't had a prior criminal record (i'm assuming he did)? This country does tend to treat those with even minor criminal records like shit. It's like they want to force people to remain criminals.
I think you have to cut old people some slack because their lives are so ****ing miserable. I always just keep this in mind when thinking about old people:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaRMcCa1e-k
But perhaps she didn't like Chinese people? My step-Grandfather has no problem with African-American people, but he once told me he didn't like Orientals because they 'are very rude.' Old people tend to be more prejudicial, and it is far too late to change them; but don't worry, they'll be dead soon anyway.
And your anecdotal evidence of one little old lady isn't really any evidence for widespread racism. Regardless, as long as you have racial distinctions, you will always have racism, so why continue to emphasise the distinctions?

Yes, the firing in this case was appropriate, and would have happened if he was white. I can't see how any corporate environment would welcome a guy, regardless of race, who gets guns pulled on him and tosses people out 2nd story windows around the office.
There was a white guy at my office who got fired for getting arrested for assault. He was fired as soon as the partners heard about the case.

Charles was never arrested or charged with anything. Not comparable.
There are plenty of people who get guns pulled on them who haven't done anything wrong. Not many of them can fight back. Some get killed.

He was in gangs as a teenager in NY. He left and was working in Maryland for years before this happened.
I think you are just someone who sees what they want to see. This is someone i knew personally. I know what happened. He was a ladies man and one of the ladies had a jealous boyfriend who didn't know Charles and pulled a gun on the wrong guy.

got it .. well .. messing with other guys' gfs/wives will cause things like this .. no sympathy for him .. if you're gonna do that, make sure you don't get caught

Even if he wasnt charged the guy would have been fired. In fact I believe he was fired before they learned of the charges. People dont want violent people in corporate environments.
I have seen people fired for a variety of reasons. I am sure that tossing someone out of a second story window would have gotten anyone fired. the only exceptions being family of partners or extremely talented people that are worth the trouble.
Our company has let people go for going into debt. It wasn't the official reason but everyone knows that is why they got fired.
Edit: Jobs arent a right, they are a privilege. People get fired all the time for factors outside their control.
( watching the trial...looking at the evidence)
GZ claimed that TM ran/skipped/hastly walked away from him.....GZ couldn't see TM anymore....
GZ was already otside of his vehicle when th dispatcher said " we don't need you to follow him".....so GZ walked down the sidewalk to see what address he was closest to ( so he could tell police when they arrived)
You are also speaking to what a complete idiot this guy was. His car was parked on the biggest street, the main transit street in his THREE street community he lived in. He also did not know the block he and Trayvon fought on which is only 30 feet from his house.
He was 5 seconds away from his vehicle and 15 feet away from an address. When he got out the car. It was another one of his lies. Compounded by another lie that Trayvon came out of the bushes and attacked him right after his phone call. Compounded by his whole lying of events. He was pursing him with his flash light.
GZ didn't try to " go after TM" ...( according to GZ testimony / the missing 4 minutes TM had to go home
Well apparently the complex is very hard to find your way around. It has forgettable street names and difficult numbering systems. How do you know he went home?

You founded this country on blood and murdering while taking from native Americans kiddos.
This is a prime example of "white privilege". The whole "I've never really lived it so it doesn't exist" shit you dudes pull
Don't talk to me like racism and profiling is a conspiracy theory. How DARE you sit there ignorantly blowing out of your mealy mouths. I'm a person with BROWN skin that lived it for years. You seem to be deflecting from the PRESENT and focusing on THE PAST. Currently latinos and blacks are going through their murderous phases. Christians/Whites went through their own and thanks to it matured and grew wiser. Now it's the turn for others.
Right now what's going on in Africa, Middle East and Southern America is what's concerning, not what white people did centuries ago. But you can continue to be ignorant and use that whole "well at least we are not as bad as those guys were before I was even born" defense. :oldlol:
