Well, I am convinced that I have forgotten FAR more than you will EVER know.
6'10" does not qualify as 7' :facepalm
Since when are shoes 2" :oldlol:
Tell that to the NBA
Tell that to Dwight Howard
Dwight's 6'9 and 6'10.25" in his shoes.
They went ahead and penciled him in to a generous 6'11
...Because there is no rule about "in shoes". A list height is literally w/e the f_ck the NBA wants it to be in the modern era... "In shoes" is just their excuse to get away with lying... It is a loose guide at best and they generally keep it within 2" but it's been stretched as far as 3" before. Some players don't even get exaggerated - there's no consistency because there isn't any rules that u must list a player in shoes. They'll list a player as tall as they feel they can get away with unless said player states otherwise.

And as interesting, was the fact that, if anything, the players of the 60's and 70's were UNDER-LISTED. I remember Elvin Hayes being listed at 6-8 when he went against Alcindor in the "Astrodome Game." When he was drafted, he was measured at 6' 9 1/2", and was listed at 6-9. Sidney Wicks was listed at 6-8 at UCLA, and when he came into the NBA he was suddenly a full 6-9. Bill Walton was known to have been over 7-0, but was listed at 6-11 (and in today's NBA, and in shoes, he would have probably been 7-1+)
You have mentioned Bill Russell. In college he was listed at 6-10, and in the NBA, only 6-9. I read somewhere, where he claimed that he was 6-10. Put him in shoes, and he would surely have been 6-11.
Chamberlain was listed at 7-1 in his NBA career, and he himself said he was over that (7-1 1/16th), BUT, there were MANY who claimed he was taller. Kareem was listed at 7-2, and he was about an inch taller than Chamberlain. However, much later in his career, and standing next to Ralph Sampson, who was listed at 7-4, he was at least his equal in height.
Overall, the majority of players of the 60's and 70's would measure at at least an inch taller using today's measurements. And, as we have read, there are many in today's game, that are considerably shorter than their listed heights.

Instead of posting pure crap, why don't you actually provide some real research to backup whatever ridiculous assertions you post?
You are using Basketball Reference, which has already been exposed as a joke in these discussions.

I'd agree with the gist of what you're saying, but the bolded seems a bit far. I do wish that there was consistency in heights given (i.e. everyone without shoes and maybe in metres/centimetres to make it more accurate though it would take some getting used to). But heights do go down too, Garnett didn't want to be known as a 7 footer (although I seem to recall Walton did the same thing), and I think most of the huge guys (Muresan, Bol, Bradley, Ming) have been listed as barefoot heights.

Shoes don't equal 2". If a guy is 6'10" barefoot then he is 6'11" with shoes not 7'
Oh is this one of these threads bashing Wilt for dominating short white guys yet turning around and saying Bill Russell is the GOAT?:facepalm

Or Kareem for that matter... cuz it's not like he won a ring as MVP on a GOAT team while Chamberlain was very much still in the league right? :lol
