The Utah Jazz have been solidly in Group 4 for quite a while. Sure, they were young and rebuilding, but were they actually doing a good job of it? Rebuilding for the sake of rebuilding was not an accomplishment.

The proof is in the statistics. The Jazz are 17-30 on the season, with the victory over the Warriors. Of those 17 wins, eight of them are over teams who would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. A ninth is over the Oklahoma City Thunder, certainly one of the most talented groups in the league.[/QUOTE]

The star small forward played perhaps his best game of the year, scoring 26 points, grabbing a career-high 15 rebound, handing out six assists and coming up with three steals. He set the tone from the opening tap, pushing the ball, making shots and harassing Warriors star Klay Thompson on the other end.
His performance was quite the turnaround from Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, when a head cold forced him into a subpar game.
"I feel like when I'm active early, I usually have a good night," Hayward said. "Tonight, I got about three or four rebounds very early, so I was able to bring the ball up myself and attack. I feel like I'm starting to read defenses more, and that's helping me."
Besides Hayward, Utah's night was highlighted by a 51 point game from Jazz bench. Trevor Booker scored 17 points, and grabbed seven rebounds. Trey Burke was great in the second half, and finished with 15 points to go along with seven assists. Rudy Gobert had 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Those guys supported Hayward and Derrick Favors, who had 15. Joe Ingles scored seven of his 10 points in the first quarter.
Everyone who played contributed in some way. The balanced effort was too much for the Warriors on this night. They received a game-high 32 points from superstar Stephen Curry, but he had very little tangible help from his teammates.
"We didn't have enough life tonight on the road against a young, hungry team," Golden State coach Steve Kerr said. "They played a lot better tonight, and they took it to us."
This ends an uneven week for the Jazz, who suffered a bad loss to the Boston Celtics, and played well against the Los Angeles Clippers before losing. But Friday night salvages a 2-2 homestand for Utah. And to get the win at home over the 36-8 Golden State Warriors, snapping a six game losing streak to them in the process, shows another slow step of improvement.

And hey, with the Warriors winning their previous six meetings against Utah, including three in a row at ESA, that's pretty doubtful.
After all, Golden State steamed into town with the league's best record (36-7), boasting both the league's best offense and defense, and appears seemingly headed for the No. 1 seed in this year's Western Conference playoffs.
Utah, meanwhile, had lost its last two home games earlier this week and limped into Friday night's matchup at 16-30 on the season.
But unlike their meeting a couple of weeks ago, when the Jazz played 'em mighty tough for a half only to see the Warriors break free with a monstrous third-quarter showing on their way to a 17-point win, Utah didn't back away this time.
"They're a terrific team," first-year Utah coach Quin Snyder said of Golden State, which was surprisingly added to the list of this season's top-flight victims of the Jazz that also includes defending NBA champion San Antonio, Memphis, Chicago, Cleveland, Oklahoma City, Miami and Phoenix. "We just wanted to try and play hard and execute.

Kanter is the only guy to be thinking about now. By the time it's time to pay Rudy and others Kanter, Favors, Burks, Maxi G could be traded and with the cap going up next year is really the only year to consider right now.

I hope Favors is joking because he's a joke as far as a defender. Funny that Rudy completely take Aldridge out of the game and almost single handedly wins the game and the dunk is what is talked about. At least one player looked like they belonged. This game is probably a blowout without Rudy. They had no answer for Aldridge. Aldridge had no answer for Rudy. Blazers started going after Favors at the rim with Rudy on the perimeter. Mentioned that problem yesterday.

Really? You completely forgot the 2nd quarter where he shut him down too. After the other bigs let him go for 16 in the first. That's why he started the 2nd half. Aldridge didn't want anything to do with Gobert. Even missed FT's. He was obviously in his head.

I have tonight’s game at 86 possessions so allowing 103 points to the Blazers is not going to be a good defensive rating. Jazz got in the penalty early in the 3rd and then allowed 28 points in the 3rd and 31 in the 4th.
Jazz threw the ball all over the gym in the 3rd quarter but where really solid with the ball other than the 3rd quarter.
Solid night. Great fight. Super experience gaining games. Still a long process but progress is obviously being made.

The heartbreak Seahawks' Super Bowl defeat was still lingering around the Pacific Northwest, even before Seattle native and longtime 'Hawks fan Snyder arrived in Portland.
Snyder has rooted for the team since childhood, but said there's more to his admiration for the team than nostalgia.
"I think they're one of the great communicative teams, if that's a word, in any sport," the Jazz coach said. "We showed our guys some of Richard Sherman, not talking to the camera, but talking to his teammates."

On his website Tuesday, Jazz swingman Gordon Hayward announced that he and his wife, Robyn, are expecting a baby girl due in June. Maybe next year's Jazz practices could become a standing playdate; Derrick Favors and his longtime girlfriend Shivolli Da Silva are expecting twins.
Dunk champs
Evans knows what it takes to win a Slam Dunk contest, having taken home the crown in 2012. So who does the Jazz forward like from a field of Victor Oladipo, Zach LaVine, Mason Plumlee and Giannis Antetokounmpo?
"This year, I think my money's gonna be on Zach LaVine," Evans said. "I've seen him jump a few times in in-game dunks and he looks like he gets pretty high."
Defensive pride
Snyder is starting to see some of the defensive progress he's been preaching since taking this job, but he'll be the first to caution there's still a long way to go."I think our defense is improved," Snyder said after his team held the Golden State Warriors to 100 points, 10.8 below their average, on Friday night. "I think there's just more pride across the whole team, top to bottom, from our guys. I don't think it's an identity yet. But that's certainly what I would like to see continue to evolve."
The Jazz have slowly crept toward defensive respectability, improving each month of the season. In December, Utah allowed 107.1 points per 100 possessions. Last month, that number was down to 102.1.
"They've worked at it," Snyder said. "There's been a lot of film. And we drill. Sometimes, that's monotonous, but our guys have embraced it. I think we're starting to see some of the benefits of that work."
