Re: Tim Hardaway is a homophobe
I agree that Hardaway is a bigot. But, what really angered me was his comment that gay people shouldnt be here in the U.S. or on the planet. What does he suggest? Genocide? Concentration camps? Should they be be-headed or stoned to death like they are in IRAN?
As far as taking showers with gay peple in public showers or gyms, doesnt everybody realize that they have been taking showers with gay people forever. Gay people have been around forever. If there are 10% or less gay people in the population, doesnt it go without saying that gay people have been in high school and college gym classes and have always showered together with their straight classmates?
I have many gay friends and I have never been hit on or approached in an in-appropriate way. Gay people don't need to hit on straight men, they have plenty of other gays to befriend.
Peace

very good post. WHile I wholeheartedly defend his right to be a bigot or scared of gays, his statements of hatred and that they shouldnt be allowed exist are over the top. Insert, if you will, a group to which you belong (either by choice or by biology) in the place of gays in his statement and see if you think that is an acceptable statement in a media forum.
"Well you know, I hate christians, so I let it be known. I don't like christians and I don't like to be around christians," he said. "Yeah, I'm anti-christian. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world for that or in the United States for that. So, yeah, I don't like it.

Sure so have I, but Ive also been hit on by fat chicks or really ugly chicks and its not a good feeling. Generally, gay men are more responsive to a not interested than a desperate woman... not all of em though

Truthfully I only heard part of his quote paraphrased on radio and they left out that last part that was on TNT later that night....He's way of track there...him saying he doesn't want to be around playe with associate or like gay people that is all good...I really couldn't care less if some dude sad he didn't like wanna be around or work with black people that's you choice...but when TIM said they shouldn't be in America or whatever then he stepped over the boundary. Who you want to associate with that's your bussiness but you can't ostrasize people based on your feelings.

there's talk about retiring his jersey.
Re: Tim Hardaway is a homophobe
there's talk about retiring his jersey.
It should be retired because of how great a player he was in both Miami and Oakland. It does not seem right to only have Zo's jersey in the rafters. Timbug's should be right next to it, at a safe nonhomo distance.

I feel sorry for Tim - as he obviously is not too bright. He is guaranteed the American right to his own opinion (at least for the time being) - but why would one openly admit to such nonsense - unless he is minus a few batteries?
One should be able to admire their game - but be able to separate them from their nonsense!
Just like I admire Kobe's game - but hate the fact that he treated a woman so badly that she cried rape. I admire Tim's game - but hate his prejudices.:ohwell:
Re: Tim Hardaway is a homophobe
nice post PoGo. it's probably the same reason as why Dennis Rodman will not be in the Hall of Fame despite his hall of fame ability to defend and rebound. not to mention all of his rings...
