it's kind of true though. Steals and blocks don't tell you everything, otherwise we could say Amare and Javale McGee are good defenders. The other statistics can be circumstantial--who's he playing with at the time, who's the other team playing with at the time, are two players being asked to defend the same type of players?--stuff like that. Also some players don't really "bring it" on defense every night, but that doesn't mean they're who you want defending you during the playoffs. The eye test is best for determining who's a good defender.
Norris cole will be in this conversation very soon. he's a very good on ball defender. I can't wait for miami vs boston/bulls/sixers next season for people to see what a good defender he is. But for now, CP3/hinrich/rondo/rose/ are good.
I don't get why Derrick Rose gets called a good defender. I don't really see much out of him. He's not Steve Nash bad, but I don't know why he's considered any better than average. He has good individual defenders on his team and good defensive schemes from the coach.

Because people are idiots, and know very little about basketball.
the back up pg for the bulls was the most impressive defensively in the playoffs. chalmers couldnt even bring the ball up the court against him at sow points.

chalmers' handles suck though

Lots of defensive point guards can do that against Chalmers. I bet Avery Bradley can do that easily.
id take rondo over paul, mostly because paul can occasionally get exposed by bigger point guards down low, like andre miller and billups

Show me all the games where Chris Paul's defense has been exposed, thanks.
