Hakeem was so smooth. I don't care what anybody says, Hakeem was the best big man to play in the L.

- LJ's Grandmama
- Roony's Euro step (first person I saw use it...Sarunas!!)

Kiki's go-to move was the step-back not a floater.
Terrific and informative thread, AlphaWolf. You have shown multiple times that you are capable of being a thoughtful, informative poster, so I don't know why you choose to squander so much of your posting potential with your inane Kobe trolling.
Anyway, it's fascinating how much technique goes into these moves. Nice GIFs, and I hope you do more of these types of threads.
McHale and Hakeem had the best post moves in NBA history.

That was MJ's before it was Kobe's. MJ probably took it from someone else.
Kareeem skyhook.
Iverson crossover.
McHale swinging gate.
Steve Smith baseline move (was like a Jedi Mind Trick)
Rasheed unblockable fallaway.
Shaq Black Tornado.

During his prime Kiki was excellent at doing a change of direction move (not quite a hard crossover...but almost an in and out dribble) followed by a Running floater.
later in his career he did shoot more step back J's....he even said he liked to attack off the drible early...but as he got older he had to settle for Jumpers.
the video doesn't really do it justice...but Kiki used to be able to slightly fake/hesitate off the dribble and get past his defender >>>http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=vwh6MRAJIU0#t=3036s<< not really a great example but best I could find right now.
I remember him more for this then shooting step backs...although you are right , his Jumper was his go to move late in his career.

Reality is starting to set in for the old man. He's finally seeing how big of a damn fool he was looking, and is now "letting go". At some point you just gotta leave certain trends to the kids.

KiKi was WAY better than the "average fan" remembers.
I remember the step-back more personally. I started to really experiment with basketball in the late-80s. Growing up that time in NYC everybody I was learning the game from was using that move.
God I loved that move. More than the technique it was a great move to teach because the "theory" and reads of the move are so easy to grasp. Attack the rim, if the defender shoulder is on your inside foot then step back and away. Counter is just as simple. On your step-back when your back foot hits the ground if the defender hands are down then elevate and shoot; if their hands up then give a slight head fake and attack the hoop again.
How about kareem skyhook?
will add..

Just thought about this but I grew up with him on the same team as Mark Jackson, so Kiki's floater likely got over-shadowed by Jax teardrop.
Some more Hakeem stuff showcasing his creativity as well as footwork and quickness.

^Quick turn to the baseline losing his defender and the ball fake to send him flying.

^Goes middle, defender can't help but think he's going for the jump hook and simply uses a counter move by stepping through.

^Quick baseline spin, ball fake to elude the first defender, pivots, pump fakes to juke the second defender and creates an easy lay up opportunity.

^Gif titled "David Robinson doesn't learn his lesson." Same move, baseline spin off the contact followed by the ball fake.

^Same move as above on Theo Ratliff instead.

Great Post
Can Shaq's jump hook get some love? It was his go-to move in the paint and it was pretty unstoppable. There's also the Shaw-Shaq redemption http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gESt6LJjdt0&feature=related
Also Rondo's behind the back fake pass.
GOAT Center
If you don't believe me, name a weakness. Thank you.
