Re: would Bill Simmons be a great GM?
If Hollinger can get a job as GM, why not Simmons? Sure, some of his trade scenarios are a bit out there but you can't deny the man knows his basketball inside-out. :confusedshrug:
I thought Chris Wallace was the GM in Memphis... when did he get fired
Re: would Bill Simmons be a great GM?
Re: would Bill Simmons be a great GM?
no he wouldn't bill is a mark
Re: would Bill Simmons be a great GM?
no this dude can barely put his bias aside for 2 minutes with a camera in front of him, imagine him pulling the strings for an NBA franchise..
Re: would Bill Simmons be a great GM?
Does he get Zach Lowe and Kirk Goldsberry to help him out?
Re: would Bill Simmons be a great GM?
Bill Simmons on Bill Simmons the GM.
Bill Simmons: "I think Simmons is in over his head. He started out as a basketball writer and now thinks he has the magic answers. The basketball writer turn GM experiment is over. This guy should be fired."

From 2011-13, Simmons' take on who the Cavs should draft (at the time of those drafts) with all those high picks would have resulted in this starting five heading into last season...
PG - Brandon Knight
SG - Victor Oladipo
SF - Derrick Williams
PF - Thomas Robinson
C - Who Cares
Simmons is awful when it comes to spotting/projecting talent in the draft. Suffice to say, he'd make the worst GM in NBA history.
Re: would Bill Simmons be a great GM?
Simmons does NOT strike me as a guy who would get the respect of his peers at all, which is important for being a GM. Didn't Magic quit his broadcasting job just to get away from him? You could also see that Durant pretty much hated the guy in an interview with him (and other players show the same expressions as well)
Not to mention his history of going IN on the league's officials would not bode well for whatever team he would be the GM of...
Re: would Bill Simmons be a great GM?
No, he thinks short-term and is too reactionary. Don't get me wrong, I doubt he would do a worse job than a Billy King, but...
Also Hollinger is just a VP or something, he isn't the GM.

Hollinger is not a GM. Has never been.
otoh 98% IQ isn't that high when you think bball coaches and bball players are probably at the 99.9999. -Smak
Um, what?

Simmons does not seem like a decisive guy at all. That's part of his appeal. He plays the everday fan in his writing. He's the opposite of a Steven A. Smith know it all.
Simmons would second guess himself to death.

I think Holli is a ploy, an attention move. Dude looks autistic to me.
I think it's hard to be a really good GM, and you probably need some luck... like think of Steve Kerr. He got slayed for that Shaq trade. When it was kind of a power move... and not a bad idea. I think the front office is a huge thing... comes down to luck, player performance, and each part of the whole.

Not even close to 99.9999. Especially players. Many players can't even hit the top 50% mark.
Although I agree that top 2% is definitely smart, but not incredibly so.
Btw, although I'm not really in accordance with some of his opinions, for those who claim Simmons is close to Barkley: Rick Rosner, an IQ test expert, who has a history of very high scores, knows Simmons personally and has called him brilliant. This may be just praise among friends, but this isn't a guy who just gives such a label to everyone he knows.

Victor Oladipo over Bennett was a no brainer:

The rest were dreadful though.
Re: would Bill Simmons be a great GM?
Also Bill Simmons didn't like the Celtics-Nets trade (which turned out to be Ainge butt f*cking Billy King).
