It's a brutal, horrible story:
Crystal Ann Taylor -- the name on her police record -- is not from South America, but from Saint Louis -- from the west bank of the Mississippi River, not the Amazon. She and Nowitzki lived together for a year, after having known each other for several years. She was the one who tried to initiate the romantic relationship, and when she had finally gained his trust, she had someone videotape the couple -- she and her trophy -- in his kitchen.
Nowitzki says that the worst of it is that the whole world can now pry, uninvited, into his personal life. Crystal Taylor's friend sold the video made in his kitchen to the press, and it landed in YouTube. Nowitzki says he is furious, and feels "somehow helpless, as well."
This.

the part of me where the Spurs-Mavs rivalry exists, that recognized Dirk's softness thinks it's this picture from his MVP season

the part of me that likes Dirk and respects him for overcoming his weaknesses and sticking with his team through thick and thin thinks it's this one

This is where Dirk really established his legacy as an all time great/dominant player. Beating the Duncan led Spurs at the peak of their powers (only player/team to do so in their 3 year run when they were at their best)...on the road in a game 7 at that.
Made even more special by winning with a clown coach Avery Johnson.
Not many guys in NBA history could have walked into that series with Avery Johnson coaching and somehow beaten the Pop/Duncan Spurs with homecourt in 06.
27/13/3 65% TS for the series...
Greatness...

Wasnt Duncan hobbled by planter fasciitis in the playoffs that year?
to be fair to the Little General, he did win COTY and got them playing defense! Nellie ball was whack, however imperfect Avery was

He dealt with some issues, but it didn't impact his play at all.
He had a monster series and played fantastic. Manu was a monster as well in that series.
Dirk and the Mavs just came through when it mattered most and took down the champs in one of the best series ever...with an all time great game 7 that saw Dirk and Duncan play truly fantastic.
