is that leon powe hes charging on?
No, that's Seattle second year guy Jeff Green.
I just hope for Oden's sake that Portland's fans and front office really don't expect him to hit the ground running because Oden is going to struggle a bit early on.

On the other hand, how many rookie get to:
- have access to the staff and coaching of an NBA team for an entire year prior to game 1
- have an extra 3 months of practise with NBA level teammates
- have a year's access to NBA level game tapes, team philosophy, travel, etc.
Oden has to be the most ready rook to enter then league in years... Dude should be light years ahead of the other rooks. I expect it.

Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
It sucks they are pulling Oden at 20 minutes in pre season. His is owning Horford right now and Roy is owing Joe Johnson yet again. As I'm listening Oden gets an and 1.
LOL, they just took Oden out and now Horford got his first basket on the play after.

They should stop Babying him and let him do his thing.

If he doesn't start playing 25-30 minutes now, he isn't going to get in shape fast enough. I guess they mean it when they say they want to ease him back in to playing. The Blazers are just killing Atlanta while all the starters are on the bench. If the Blazers lose this game I don't care, it's just a warm up game.

I'd hope he'd dominate Horford. He has about 4 inches and 70 pounds on him.

Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
Al Hordord ---- 6pts, 6reb and shot 3-8 from the field
Greg Oden ---- 11pts, 5reb and shot 5-6 from the field
I'd say Oden has outplayed Al Horford in today's game and if given more than 30 minutes he'd have completely owned the poor Atlanta Center...(which requires Oden to learn how to reduce the PFs he receives while trying to block)

Read above. Horford isn't a Center and it's a disservice that Atlanta keeps playing him there.

All 6 points were scored after Oden went out. He was 0-4 when Oden went out.
Oden owns Al Horford. He isn't even close to being in top shape either.
-
Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
Horford is to undersized to be playing the Center. They need someone who can actually play that spot correctly....
-
Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
His actions in season will make the haters shut up,I do believe.

Oh comeon now, Oden owns Horford because of a meaningless preseason game?

I'm right there with you. The haters are many (not exactly sure why) but Oden will shut all of them up when he hoists that R.O.Y. trophy.

I hope you are right, but I'd like to point out that hoisting the ROY trophy doesn't seem to stop haters. Durant still receives hate, and heck, even James still receives hate from certain crowds.

None of them should get hated on. LeBron will soon be the best player in the NBA and Durant & Oden will be right on his heels.

Agreed, but they do anyway, and thats what I was pointing out.

Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
durant will be a baller but he will never be on the top of the list of best players in the league. lebron is a monster though and is imo the best in the league now. kobe is AMAZING dont get wrong but lebron can take over a game like nobody else can
-
Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
i hope greg oden succeeds because he's a good kid. it's too bad that blazer fans don't want bynum to succeed just because he threatens their god of a center.

i agree that kobe bryant is not the best in the league anymore. he may be one of the smartest, but he's past his prime physically and it showed last season. however, my pick this year would be for D-Wade and not LeBron.

I'm cool with Bynum succeeding, I just don't want the Lakers to. :D
-
Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
IMO Bynum just isnt as likeable as Oden.
His expressions on court are annoying. His play, though effective, is not exactly pretty or powerful.
Where as Oden just glues you to the screen.
Both will be great players though obviously

It's true. Oden is just more interesting to watch. On the court and off. He's so explosive on the defensive end and on offense too. Plus he does funny off-court things like singing at the ESPYs and doing karoake. His blog is hilarious too.

Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
Oden potentially is at least a top 10 center and with his ability on both ends of the floor, maybe even top 5.
-

Do you mean this season? He's definitely Top 10 this season, that's not even a question. Being a Top 5 center right now is definitely something that is attainable for him. There aren't a whole lot of great centers in the league right now.
-
Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
I love Oden's game, he's extremely physical, to the point someone is bound to get into a fight with him. I have yet to see him face up and try to put the ball on the floor, which is great, he's strictly back to the basket, jump hooks and post moves.

I think other players are bound to get frustrated by him. But I don't see Oden ending up in a fight. He's kind of like LeBron during LeBron's rookie season. A great talent who hasn't developed enough attitude yet to get into a fight. At least that's how I see it.

I agree. When he doesn't get a call he complains as if he were a superstar! Shut up kid! Be more humble. You're good but damn, chill out.

He thinks he's Dwight Howard, but he didn't put in all those years in the NBA like Howard did before he reached "star" level. Bynum, put your time in and wait for your dues just like everybody else.

Wow. I don't know about that. Wilt, Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem, Russell. I like Oden and all. But his potential isn't THAT high at this point.

I disagree. Oden has the potential to dominate every aspect of the post. he can play both ends, has good lateral movement and reaction. his offensive post game is already blossoming and his defense will be legendary if he stays healthy. he's only 20 years old and his game is well beyond his years. he's a complete center and if he reaches his potential he could handle any of those guys in his/their prime.

Re: Believe the hype on Greg Oden
I'm stoked. I get to see Oden in person on Monday when he comes to Arco. Hope he gets at least his standard 20 minutes (if not more).
