You're half-right.
The Rockets did this as a courtesy to Luther Head. He obviously didn't fit into their plans any longer, and that happens in pro sports, even to capable players.
Just two years ago, Luther averaged 10.9 points, 3.2 boards and 2.4 assists for a 50-win team, and was fourth in the league in 3pt% at .441 and sixth in 3pt field goals with 177. He didn't get worse in the meantime, I promise you. He's 26 years old, hasn't lost any athleticism in the last two years (though he's not the athlete he was in high school before injuries in his early years at Illinois forced him into becoming a more skilled player)
In other words, he's capable of contributing to a good team and brings an elite specific skill with him in his outside shooting. If you can do something at that high of a level like Luther can, you're going to have a job.
not questioning his ability. He obviously has great range. But he is a shooting guard trapped in a point gaurd body. He is too small to be a effective SG in the league. Do you know WHY he shot .441 from the arc? Its because The open looks he gets from the double teams of yao and mac. take that away and he is nothing but a way undersized SG that cant create a open look for himself.
My sixers need something. Maybe Head would be good lol?
what can Head provide for the Sixers?
I was thinking the same thing!
Dirty minds think alike. :lol
NO HEAD PLEASE! HAHAHA

ya thats a ****in old joke. luther head, rox fans had their fun w/ his last name.
hes notta bad player. he can drain 3s if he gets the ball off a double team.
Atleast they shouldve thought for a better line... on the rumors page! hahaha
much like instead of using that they shouldve used...
"Rockets waive Head"

Can't blame the Rockets tho. They were paying multi-million dollars for Head. I usually pay about 50 bucks.
Yeah... when we drafted Rudy gay.
everyone was like "we have gay head!!" :banghead: :banghead:
Rockets don't get head, although __________ do.
_________ get Head from Rockets.
Yeah I would of found this funny if I was 10 years old too.
It's a very childish thing. And I still chuckled :D
*waiting to see "Who wants Head?" headline tomorrow*
all guys have a 10 years old at heart just waiting to come out
I wish the Nuggets were still the Thuggets, so they could have some Gangster Head Action goin on....
should this really be a sticky?

Got get him Nets...we need that third stringer!
Spurs and Nets interested in him.

Spurs would be fun. He would get a chance to shut up his former team.
In New Jersey he would get to do whatever he wants and shoot whatever he wants off the bench.
If he goes to the Spurs, I'm gonna be pissed. Boo f'ing hoo if he wants playing time, you don't throw a rival conference team a bone. If he goes to the Nets, I wish him well. He seems like a good guy. He can play well if given consistent minutes.

So the Rockets should keep him on the bench just so a rival conference team doesn't get him? I rather have them free up space so we can add a player ourselves. I much rather see James White get a 10 day than to have Head sit there and waste space. We're talking about LUTHER HEAD here. I highly doubt hes the missing piece the Spurs need to win the title.
a contender would be stupid to sign to luther head unless you need an injury reserve that badly...

Neither do I, but if he accounts for just one game the Spurs move up in the standings, we could potentially be screwing ourselves. I acknowledge it's a slight chance, but it's not one we should be handing out. As for us signing a replacement, I doubt it, there's no one out there. If someone were to get injured, Head would be an insurance policy (is that the phrase I'm looking for?).

luther head will get alot better wide open looks from 3 in san antonio compared to houston.
I like Luther Head. At one point, he was my favorite Rocket, but he couldn't play the same as he did with JVG and I can't figure out why. I would of thought he could do a lot better under Adelman. I hope he gets signed to a good team.
raptors need to sgin every FA avaliable as they lack eberything and need more depth,
luther head will get alot better wide open looks from 3 in san antonio compared to houston.
No he won't, Yao is doubled just about everytime he touches the ball, against teams without legit bigs sometimes even without the ball.
Spurs would be fun. He would get a chance to shut up his former team.
More like Houston would get the chance to benefit off his TOs and boneheaded plays instead of paying for them.
are you going to change your name?
are you going to change your name?
I sure as hell need to :oldlol: Tmac sucks and has played his last game here and Head has left the building.
Oh yeah to top off what I was saying earlier.......not only can Luther not dribble or pass. He turns into casper in the playoffs....so the only strength he has (shooting) can't even help you when you reach the postseason. He was a huge reason for our loss against Utah a couple of seasons ago.
More like Houston would get the chance to benefit off his TOs and boneheaded plays instead of paying for them.
Don't understand the word chance do you
Don't understand the word chance do you
Yes I do.....that's why I said Houston would get the "chance" to take advantage of Luther's ball handling...or lack there of.
My fault I initially read that wrong
Looks like the Heat are looking at Head too. I think that would be the best fit for him as far as playing time goes. He probably won't win a title but at least he should make the playoffs.

That sounds bad, Daequan Cook gets all the off-guard minutes off the bench. He would have to come in to be point for Mario? Luther will split back up point guard duties with Chris Quinn? I just don't like the sound of that.
If the Suns have any interest they really should go after this guy.
a contender would be stupid to sign to luther head unless you need an injury reserve that badly...
You could never be too sure. Your starting PG could get hurt in the first round. At least you can put him in and make him stand in the corner :confusedshrug:

im guessing an established team already has depht at the guard position. guys that have been around the team all season and knows the plays and the organization knows these players closely.
head in no way shape or from should be trusted at point guard in a playoff game.. he has been a ghost in playoff games basically meaning he cant even hit his open jumpers...
when i heard that spurs were interested, my thoughts were that spurs are a smart organization and their scouting is good therefore realizing its not worth cutting a player to sign head... that goes for other contenders.. its not like mikki moore or joe smith who will directly and can greatly contribute to a team. these veterans are consistent contributors in one way or another.
