Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
First of all, I'm hardly the only person to point out Kobe's constant whining. It's pretty clear as day. Secondly, if they called ALL the techs they should on him, then yes he should have considerably more.
Serious question, because I honestly can't get my mind around how some Kobe fans think. I'm a big fan of Wade. However, if he did all the obnoxious shyt Kobe did on the court and got away with it, I'd admit that he should be T'd up more.
Do you guys just not see anything he does? do you like put up a mental shield that doesn't allow you to EVER admit anything about him? I'm honestly curious because many other people notice his whining and theatrics that would get most players t'd up, but you don't. So we're just making it all up because we "hate" him, and he doesn't really do those things or what?
You not being the only one mentioning it doesn't mean that you are correct in your assessment that he constantly whines, and that his way of whining warrants more technicals.
From what I see he usually raises his hands and look at the refs with a "WTF" look on his face. This doesn't deserve a technical. If it does, every team would finish every games with all their starters ejected. Only when he starts cursing directly to the ref and swing his arm in discontent does he deserve a T.
You're just too blinded by your bias against him that you see everything he does in a bad light.
-
Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
.
You're just too blinded but your bias against him that you see everything he does in a bad light.
And that same thing can be turned back at you that you minimize everything he does because of your bias.
I'm not just talking about raising your hands and looking at the ref. That's the kind of thing Duncan does, and shouldn't automatically deserve a tech. It's just annoying. (Yes, even in Duncan a player who I love. See, I can admit when a player I like does something annoying).
Bryant goes beyond that a lot of the time. Barking at the ref, being extra demonstrative beyond just throwing his hands up and looking at him, etc. I've seen him throw the ball and not get T'd up for it. He constantly severely pushes the envelope because he knows he can get away with it.
When you mix that with his "Hey" every time he gets stripped and looking for calls when he's clearly blocked almost EVERY TIME, it gives credence to the entitled nature that he has.

No. He does give a f-ck, otherwise he wouldn't be the bitter a-hole that he is.
He even said it himself, he doesn't forget things.
But at the same time, all that bitterness does make him a winner but that's not the point of the thread though.

Maybe you can provide some tape showing him deserving 10 techs in the course of one game. :confusedshrug:

IMO, not seeing something as OBVIOUS as his constant whining shows bias. It's one of those things that's not about bias, but about just observing the game with your own two eyes. I've seen plenty of "neutral" people comment on it, so it's not just so called biase people that do so.
Secondly, when did I say he deserved 10 techs during the course of one game? :confusedshrug: I stated that he doesn't get as many techs as he should. I didn't say anything on a per game basis.
And obviously I didn't write down every incident where he didn't get T'd up, that's ridiculous. However, maybe I'll do so for the upcoming season, though people would still deny it so what's the point? People deny that Bryant quit in that Game 7 when you can just watch the game and see it clear as day. So why would his fanatics EVER concede he should get more techs even with video evidence?

Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
well, watch Kobe get stripped or lose the ball ....hell flail his arm, punch the air .. scream at the ref ,more often than any player w/o getting a tech most of the time.
Its not big deal to me, it doent make me dislike him or anything .. but he is one of the biggest babies when it comes to making mistake on offense. its just pretty clear to see...and I can see how it can rub people the wrong way.
Uh, ever hear of exaggerating movements to draw a foul?
I don't like to make mistakes on offense either, and Kobe is on a different level when it comes to competition.
Complaining to refs is something that superstars can get away with, and though I don't agree with the way Kobe yells at them, letting the ref know what to look for will always give you an advantage.

It seems like people always want to point out irrelevant flaws in another because they hate that aspect in themselves, it's like a reflection of insecurity.
It's obvious Kobe had a difficult time developing his social skills at an early age due to his nerd-like obsession with the game of basketball. The man isn't exactly the most charming human being, but he's not doing a bad job of trying not to be full of contrivance, either.

You are stupid. It's common knowledge that he berates the refs and gets the least punishment while other players who have garnered a rep cannot utter a single word without one coming(sheed). Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
Though I was a Kobe fan when he came into the league, he did seem somewhat fake, but I had absoulute no problems with that. By fake I don't mean completely copying Jordan's moves and manerisms, but also in the "I'm fearless" kind of talk that other people talk about Jordan. It was as if he was forcing himself, or trying to live a fantasy that he's Michael Jordan. It's really hard to explain, and though it all seems negative, I'm really not knocking him for it. Really hard to explain, just that Kobe didn't feel natural, original. Again, I had no bias towards Kobe then, but there was this commercial back then where he's talking about his creativity, and not having any bias, actually being a fan it kind of threw me off. I thought it was a weird commercial, since I didn't associate Kobe with originality.
It makes sense that a person with that type of personality is successful in the NBA.

There is proof that Bryant quit in that Game 7 by simply WATCHING THE SECOND HALF, yet people still deny that. Again, video evidence, denial.
People who worship athletes will find a way to ignore/minimize/make excuses for anything, even with video evidence.

This is what's so annoying about these people. It's as obvious as a punch in the face, but they're still going to pretend that anyone who notices is "just biased" while not even considering that maybe, just maybe THEY'RE even more biased considering their team/player loyalties. Like I said, I love Duncan but his whining is annoying at times. I can admit that. These people can't.
Kobe is that x 100. But they want to keep pretending that it's just a matter of interpretation of what's going on. What a joke.
-
Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
I love that "contrived" part of Kobe's personality. It's like he takes everything on the court personally. I saw that entire Houston-LA series last year and it was within the intensity of the game. Before the series started everybody was talking about how Artest/Battier were the kobe stoppers and how Houston was going to take it at least 7 (they did). Do you think Kobe doesn't hear all of that and use it as motivation?
The cockiness, the arrogance, shrewdness with the media, all part of his persona.

Because you claim your opinion as facts and have nothing to back it up except other opinions and whatever "common knowledge" is. If indeed he's the players who receives the least punishment for his actions it should be quite easy to prove it. Do you have a stats somewhere with "fouls/techs that should have been called but were not" showing Kobe is getting a free pass more than anybody in the league?
And yes I watched every single Lakers game this past-season. Have you?

How do I know? That has already been explained in the thread. Redundant question.
Why does it matter? I dont know, why dont you tell me? You're the one defending him when it's painfully obvious that most of them are contrived.
No, no one in this thread is pointing out irrelevant flaws, we are just truthfully answering the OP's question. I wouldn't be talking about Kobe's personality if this thread wasn't made so I don't know what you're talking about.
I understand that Kobe was shy because how dedicated he was to basketball and all that, but usually people grow out of that. He seems to be doing that to me, that's why I said some of his personality is contrived.

Ironically, Kobe distinguished himself and manifested his own personal style despite his desire to mimic Jordan's success, whether he knows it or not. I think Kobe is way more graceful and fluid than Jordan ever was. It's like he plays at a slower pace than everyone else on the court, methodically and surgically picking apart the defense in bullet-time. His jumper/range has also become almost unanimously acknowledged as superior to Jordan's.
Just saying what needs to be said because people are all too eager to discredit and downplay Kobe's place and impact in the history of basketball.

Speaking of jokes and being contrived, let's look at you and your supposed 'love for the game of basketball'. I'm pretty sure you reference this apparent 'love for the game of basketball' in a good portion of your posts, yet you're on a basketball message board, and you never really discuss basketball. You're too busy writing 3000+ essays about why Kobe Bryant is overrated, an awful person, terrible personality, choker, etc. You watch the game of basketball solely in hopes of seeing Kobe Bryant fail. Some fan of the game you are.

Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
The crazy about this article is that the same thing has been said for YEARS. Kobe trying way to hard to be MJ is nothing new. On one hand, it works because he has the talent to back it up. On the other hand, it really makes you wonder what kind of person he is. Rather, what kind of person he wants you to believe he is. It's almost like he wants the MJ comparisons to be so close that no one knows the difference:oldlol:
I don't really feel sorry for him, but I wish he would have had a true legacy. Obviously his stats and play are based off his talents on the court, but the way he goes about it is way too deja-vu for me.

Jordan's perimeter game is superior to Kobe's, and he's also better at creating shots for himself in the perimeter.
As far as Jordan's 3 point shooting, look at his stats the first few years when he was only taking bailout 3 pointers, and look at his stats in 1989-90, when he decided to make the 3 point shot a part of his game. The one year that he decided to take a lot 3 pointers, he shot better than Kobe in 12 out of 13 seasons. (Not counting Kobe's rookie year since the 3 point line was shorter.)
