Re: I'm quitting smoking.
Now I got my profile set up... my quit time is in about 30 minutes.
right on.. it's just cool to see how much $ you're saving and everything.
I actually opened up a separate savings "tobacco$" account. And I actually got addicted to saving money for a while. It was crazy. I never have had that before. Within 8 months I had several thousand (for real) and bought a truck.
If I was still smoking I would not have my truck. That's a fact. The more money I saw going into that account the more I wanted to put in. It really was a different feeling for me.
Quitnet has lots of support there. I've spent a little time in the chat rooms there and the people are supportive. There is also "expert chats" like quiting classes that you can partake in. I really mostly just liked the stats it provided.
You can set it to automatically e-mail you your stats everyday or every week or whatever..
I hope you quit dude..

consider the money you drop into that account gone.
It would have been smoked up anyway right?
Just try to forget about it...you will be surprised how fast it stacks up.
Everybodys situation is different..I don't know if you have a good job or what
but try and save and it will feel good ..

yea but the money I'm going to be spending on food the next few weeks is going to be outrageous.
not to mention the $60 I just spent on the patch and gum.
But eventually... I will be saving money... hopefully I don't replace this habit with food and become a fat @ss.... even for a guy as skinny as me, it's possible.

just smoked my last cigarette... My quit time just started.

Re: I'm quitting smoking.
Good luck.
I smoked, very casually, while in college. Never did get a hook in me, which I'm thankful for.
BUT...and this is for all the smokers out there...I ended up with a rare genetic deficiency that resulted in a rapidly progressing form of emphysema.
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. Usually not detected until mid-life (I was in my 30's). http://alpha1.org/
I went from running hoops with guys half my age to on oxygen, 24/7, in the space of about 5 years.
You have no idea what it's like when your lungs are shutting down. Imagine the most out of breath you've ever been...the scary out of breath...and think about having that desperate need for air all the time. Slowly walking across a room. Bending over. Sitting.
I ended up having a double lung transplant after nearly dying, and am in great health now. My chest hurts ever day from where they sawed through my sternum and wired it back together. I have to take 30 pills a day to guard against rejection, which can h=appen at any time.
Oh, smokers? If you get that sick, they usually won't give you a transplant. Odds of you slipping back into smoking are too high. At best you'll get one lung, which isn't much of an improvement.
I spent my first 25-30 years of life basically ignoring advice given to me. Was pretty sure I knew everything anyway. But if you listen to only one thing in your life, listen to this.
Don't smoke. If you do, quit TODAY.
Good luck! Don't let anyone convince you it's too hard or not worth it. And whatever works for you is the right way to do it.

Healthy snacks at hand all the time. Carrots, celery, apples...whatever you can stomach...always around. It'll help guard against the really bad food choices.

Re: I'm quitting smoking.
Before I actually stopped, I first cut down on the ritual smoking. No cig when first waking up, no cig after a meal, no cig before bed, etc. This got me down to probably 4-5 per day.
Around that point I told everybody I knew that I had quit, and was forced to smoke when nobody else was around. And I couldn't reek of smoke either. Anyway, eventually I was down to just one or two per day whenever I could sneak them at which point stopping was easy.
One other thing I did was always keep cigarettes in the house, for months after I quit. The strongest ingrained behavior for me was buying cigarettes when I didn't have any. If the thought occurred to me that I had no cigarettes, muscle memory kicked in and 20 minutes later I was 3 into a new pack. Crazy stuff.
I think it's when people like you realize that smoking pretty much controls your life, you decide it's time to quit.
Schedules have to be planned around when you can take a break for a smoke. Plus smokers use cigarettes as an excuse not to work. Smokers=less efficient.

Nah, actually, this is the only one I have. Thanks for the idea tho.
But its cute to watch a couple of nerds stick for each other. Like in highschool where all the bullied kids (bankshot, DW...etc) would finally gather together in a sole force and plan their revenge on society.

Its funny that your idea of "revenge on society" is f*cking with some over-defensive trolling alternate account on an internet message board.
Calling me a nerd and inferring that i was picked on in highschool??? Man now that really insults me to the core.
Is there a a particular reason you are so butt-hurt.... or is this just how you are naturally??

You and I both know this is true, and that it really stricked to your heart.
So please, dont pretend to take it all smoothly. Or at least learn to lie and take some acting lessons.
On another side note, anybody noticed BankShot is like the easiest poster to rile-up in this boards? Only takes couple of words to get him started. :oldlol:
At least DW has a bit more of "i dont care what u say" attitude.

1.) stricked??? :facepalm
2.) Again, its sad that you think "nerd" and inferring being unpopular in highschool is an insult.
3.) It seems as though you are the one getting riled up. Why so butt-hurt???

Re: I'm quitting smoking.
Cold turkey isn't the way to go. I chain smoked from 14-24. Then I decided to quit slowly. Instead of 2 packs a day, I cut it down to 1 pack and then just replace the moments when I usually smoke with something else like coffee, a banana, an apple, or water. Cause part of the problem is habit, not just a chemical addiction. After a while I smoked less and less. Took around 6 months before I didn't smoke at all anymore. I also cut out drinking/going to the bar for a while cause I tended to smoke when I drank. So for about a year I didn't drink.

Different methods work for different people.
For me it was either cut it out completely, or nothing. I couldn't "quit slowly" and phase it out of my life.
