Re: Surprising Combine Results
Knight looked about 6'5 on T.V and Irving looked about 6'1.
Williams is about what I expected
Player Height w/ Shoes Weight Wing Span Standing Reach
Delonte West 6'1.5" 6'2.75" 183 6'6" 8'3.5"
Kyrie Irving 6'1.75" 6'3.5" 191 6'4" 8'3"
Brandon Knight 6'1.5" 6'3.25" 177 6'6.75" 8'2.5"
Jimmrs Fredette 6'0.75" 6'2.5" 196 6'4.5" 8'0.5"
Kemba Walker 5' 11.5" 6'1" 184 6'3.5" 7'7.5"
Irving is taller than Dwest
-
Re: Surprising Combine Results
Actually, I take that back... Deron Williams only measured in at 6-foot-2 3/4 in shoes at his combine. Irving is taller than Williams. Shocking.

Re: Surprising Combine Results

Re: Surprising Combine Results
Irving Kanter and Williams all had solid measurements there pretty much lock for top 3 this is how i think it goes
Irving
Kanter
Williams

Re: Surprising Combine Results
wholey crap, Derrick Williams is 250lbs?????
Can someone clarify how a guy can have a longer wingspan but a shorter reach?? I can't wrap my head around that
-
Re: Surprising Combine Results
Can people stop talking about The Combine, it freaks me out.
Too many Half-life i suppose. :D
-
Re: Surprising Combine Results
I don't mean to be rude, but when normal people talk about height it's not in shoes.
Shoes change. Your height (hopefully) does not.

Re: Surprising Combine Results
is it me or is all the draft stuff happening sooner than last year??
We had the lottery, then the combine, it seems like next week we will have the draft. Everything is happening so fast to me

I doubt the Jazz draft Kanter, He didnt want to work out for them at first and see Washington, Cavs and T-Wolves are the teams he prefer

Draft not until the end of June. Its May buddy, perhaps you advanced your calender ahead by accident. :oldlol:

Yeah i'm saying he goes second to Twolves

Cool with me. That just leaves Williams at #4
-
Re: Surprising Combine Results
I was wondering the same thing.
it comes down to where your arms start. If you have a big head/long neck then comparing your standing reach to height won't seem as impressive as your wingspan.
-
Re: Surprising Combine Results
I was wondering the same thing.
if you have very wide shoulders, you will have a big wingspan, but a shorter vertical reach
-
Re: Surprising Combine Results
wholey crap, Derrick Williams is 250lbs?????

Sure... Wingspan is the length measured with arms out-stretch to the sides from fingertip to fingertip.
Reach is simply the length of the arm out-stretch above the head, like you are reaching for something, I believe.
So, a person would have a longer wingspan than reach because of having very broad shoulders. Meanwhile, the width of a torso would have nothing to do with a measurement of reach.
I don't mean to be rude, but when normal people talk about height it's not in shoes.
Shoes change. Your height (hopefully) does not.
I believe the measurement with shoes is what the NBA uses as official height... Which is why I used it. If you use the barefoot measurement, it is going to be an unfair barometer when comparing a draft prospect to the listed heights of other NBA players.
For instance, Deron Williams measured in at 6'1.75" in barefeet at the pre-draft combine, but he is listed at 6-foot-3 by the NBA... His rounded up height with shoes.

Re: Surprising Combine Results
jeremy tyler with a wing span of 7.5 inches. he managed to clear the rung on his vertical leap test, which was set at 12 feet (which was then moved up).. I hope miami gets this guy. He's a legit 6'11 and very athletic. He's projected to go in the 2nd round. we have the 31st pick.
-
Re: Anybody Watching NBA Draft Combine?
Keith Benson is a sleeper pick in the 2nd round if you ask me, he played in the shitty Summit League, but basically Oakland dominated that conference and the tourney because of him.

Reach is dependent more on height of shoulders and overall height, wingspan is how long your arms are and is measured with your arms out to your sides. Blake Griffin and Wade have similar wingspans but Blake is taller so he has a higher reach.
-
Re: Surprising Combine Results
 to everyone who clarified the wingspan vs. reach, I get it

Why would he be?

Derrick Williams could be a real stud. He's basically the same size as Amar'e Stoudemire.

that shocked me, seeing the dude is 6'9" 250lbs. 250!!!!
Seeing him in college I though he was 6'7" 230 max compared to other kids on the court. But the guy is much bigger than I anticipated.

in his interviews he was very adamant that he was a sf, i think hed be much more effective as a pf though. mismatch nightmare at the 4

he's the sleeper in the draft, I hope the knicks draft him but there might be more value at 17 and who knows what donnies thinking right now :facepalm as long as we don't pick morris from michigan

yeah .25 shorter wingspan and .5 shorter standing reach but a lot more weight 233 compared to 250
-
Re: Surprising Combine Results
tyler has yet to make any real contributions on a basketball court tho, so i think that may hinder him

maybe he gets the Thad Young treatment and plays both forward spots? He isn't as athletic as Young but I think he can do it.
If Minny passes on this kid, Kahn just solidified how dumb we all think he is is the truth, maybe understated a little

actually if he picks him that would be kind of dumb they already have Beasley love and Randolph all of them a lot of potential
-

he wasnt even playing in a good japanese league as far as i know. the guy has never proven he can play against any real level of competition. if he gets drafted, its purely on physical tools. not a knock on the guy, just that he is unproven
-

Randolph? :oldlol: What has he done to warrant one to say "I'll pass on Derrick Williams, we have Randolph. Doesnt make sense to add Derrick Williams.". Get real.
It would be dumb not to draft him. Once you do? You open up options to trade the pick in a package for a proven/established player. You open the option to trade down and aquire a need plus include other picks and/or player (whatever the situation is at hand).
Thats the smart thing to do. You dont just pass Derrick Williams up and give the team drafting 3rd overall a gift.
"You guys are welcome but we have Love Beasley and Randolph." :facepalm

Re: Surprising Combine Results
actually if he picks him that would be kind of dumb they already have Beasley love and Randolph all of them a lot of potential
you think so? The guy hoards pgs, I would think he would hoard hybrid forwards too?
I have a rule, you don't trade a top 3 pick unless you are getting a star in return. I don't count Granger as a star. I don't see Wiliams as a star yet either but at least you get good talent on a cheap contract for 4 years.
And, I highly doubt Minny drafts a top 3 pick ever again based on how Adam Silver responded to Kahn's "compelling storylines" statement.
