Considering the guy looks like the actor from Smallville, i'll be looking forward. I thought the Smallville actor had the best look for Superman.

FU**ING EPIC. Marvel simply cannot fu** with the deep, sorrow filled plots of the DC universe and nobody can fu** with Nolan when it comes to making Superhero movies. This trailer debuted yesterday or day before and was only shown in DKR showings.
Looks awesome.

The last great Superman film came out in 1980. Name one DC character not named Batman who's had anything even remotely as good as the Spider-Man, X-Men, and Avengers-universe films in the past twenty years.
That said, I'm kind of shocked at how many people have been rolling their eyes at this trailer and bltching about it. It has that great, down-home country feel that Superman deserves, considering his youth. Supes has deserved a legit reboot, not that bullshit fake-sequel to the Donner films that came out a few years ago.
Hopefully in this one he'll use his powers to actually punch someone, instead of using them to move around really heavy objects.

Number of quality films has nothing to do with the actual stories or potential of DC vs Marvel. Just happened to work out where Marvel stepped up first into the making movies work and churns them out much faster. DC has made a handful of movies where as Marvel has made like 20+ in the last decade. Even more impressive that DC easily has the best of all the superhero movies.
I want Nolan to redo Green Lantern next... and do DC the justice it deserves.
Naw... the stories and plots of Superman are just as good as Batman IMO. Besides Superman and Batman are the two most popular superheroes of all time. I just don't see the same depth in origins and story when I look at Marvel... nor the same uniqueness.
Honestly, Batman and Spider-Man are the two greatest superheros of all time, when you look at what writers have been able to do with these characters, combined with their jaw-droppingly awesome rouges galleries. No other heroes even come close to having villains as great as these two.

JUST the Nolan Batman trilogy, and I'd say the first two Spider-Man films and the first Iron Man match up well against those.

Yeah. They should reboot GL. Did not even last 30min, then I stopped watching the movie.

Which is my point. Marvel has 10 times the superhero movies yet it's DC that has the undisputed best set of movies. Quality over quantity when it comes to movies. Marvel pops one out every two years where as Nolan took his time and put 4 years of work between each Batman movie.
I Like Spiderman and Hulk the most after Batman in terms of my fav superheroes but in terms of straight popularity Superman is THE most popular and well known superhero of all time and Batman is right behind him. None of the Marvel superheroes are as iconic as Batman or Superman in my opinion. Everybody knows who Superman is... not everybody knows who Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk etc are.

DC does not have the best set of movies, come on now. The Nolan Batman films aren't so great that they immediately trump the movies I mentioned. You're basically just saying Nolan > the entire series of directors involved in the Marvel films, which is absurd. You don't even know if the new Superman movie's gonna be any good or not. Yeah, Nolan's involved, but Zack is fvcking HORRIBLE at directing actors, which was the biggest reason why the Watchmen wasn't as great as it could have been. Plus Sucker Punch was a huge mark against his skill as a director. As for Marvel pumping out films...they actually don't own the film rights to Spider-Man, the X-Men, Fantastic Four, or Ghost Rider, so those aren't part of the Avengers universe that they've set up. Those are made by other studios with a different vision of what these characters are.
And at this point, I'm fairly certain everyone knows who Spider-Man is. I think you might be forgetting just how huge those Raimi films were when they opened. There was even a bunch of bullshit in the press about how important Spider-Man was as a proud New Yorker post-9/11.

Batman trilogy IS that much better in terms of quality of movies than anything else. Avengers isn't a full tier below but there is obviously some of a gap. Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man were very nice movies but again nowhere near as good as Dark Knight or Dark Knight Rises.
Spider-Man is extremely popular but I don't think you realize that Superman is hands down the most popular superhero ever by a huge margin and is more of a world wide icon. Probably in part due to how old the character is.

I love the Batman trilogy as well and hold it just below LOTR as the greatest trilogy I've seen, but I can't help but think you're waaaaaaay overrating it with regards to this genre.

According to critics/fans combined and the Academy Awards and other outlets nothing comes close to Dark Knight in the superhero genre so not sure how I'm overrating it. The fact that at worst Rises was only a little worse shows the dominance over the superhero genre even more. The fact that Dark Knight should have won best picture says it all. No other movie like Spider-Man, Iron-Man or Avengers will even be in that discussion.
As I said que I'm not even a Superman fan. I'm just stating the fact... that he's the undisputed most popular and iconic superhero of all time.

To get back to the point though, you're saying that DC > Marvel in terms of their characters, and using one character to make this argument. Please tell me what film in the Superman series were even close to being as good as any of the X-Men films. In fact, let's remove Batman and Spider-Man entirely from this argument, and tell me how DC has told better stories than Marvel in their films.

No I'm not saying DC>Marvel in general. Just that there is a gap between these Batman movies and any Marvel movie. The failures of the Superman movies has everything to do with the people making the films and not the plot which was my only point. Nolan has yet to make a movie that wasn't perceived as great so I don't see why Superman wouldn't be a great movie.
Of course in a H2H comparison it's difficult because for every 1 DC movie there are 5-10 Marvel ones. In general though I feel like DC has better origin stories and that's my personal opinion.

Why did they use LOTR music in the trailer?:facepalm
the trailer looks like Lord of the Rings in America mixed with Lou Ferrigno Incredible Hulk. Is that the music when Haldir dies in the trailer of a superman movie? WTF
Why is he hitchhiking around when he can fly?
WTF superman? He is the most boring character in comics, thats why superman movies suck.
Also, after they way he god owned like a bitch in Dark Knight Strikes Again, it's hard to like that guy.
Atleast this actor doesnt look like a bitch.
The trailer looks like this could be an interesting take on Superman. I'm interested in the movie now.

The trailer looks really good, am liking these dark superhero films from Nolan. Can't wait
i dont know why everyone is anti snyder, the guy is a total loose canon you dont know what you are gonna get with him, thats what makes him interesting. he directed watchmen which is arguably the best comic book film of all imo. he has done some utter garbage but this effort looks distinctly low key and no doubt nolan has reigned him in. will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I never got into Watchmen. Solid but far from the best IMO. I actually liked Kickass far more even as a straight superhero movie.
The director of batman?
The director of batman?
Yup.
Growing up where comic books culture was almost non-existent and my only exposure to comics where via watching the animation series and a movie or two here and there the only comic series that intrigued me was Batman because pretty much all the villains were/are crazy mental mofos with sick appetites. Now years later as an adult I still find Batman (along with V) the only compelling comic series and one that does not feel extremely cheesy or that it has been written for kids. I just can't imagine myself as an adult still being a fan of the Incredible Hulk for instance or say that I'm a Superman fan with a straight face, it's just too juvenile for my taste. But maybe that's because comic books were never big where I grew up.
I think Superman is being severely underrated here as a character. Everybody is making him out to be this perfect, boring character. That just isn't the case; there is a lot that goes into his character and his struggles to integrate into this world (Earth) while trying to figure out his history (where he comes from, who his family is, why was he sent here, was he for good or evil, etc etc). I am definitely looking forward to this movie. I don't have any expectations going into it (same with the Batman movies), so I will just see what comes out and make my judgement after I have seen it.
To argue the DC vs Marvel thing:
The Batman trilogy, IMO, is the best of any comic-book movies I have seen overall. No, I'm not saying they are the most entertaining or interesting (That is purely subjective). Just from a straight evaluation of the story, cast, feel, writing, directing, etc (Which can be evaluated fairly objectively). I can agree that Iron Man gives them a run for their money because the cast of those movies are pretty damn good too. They are just entirely different in feel and are designed to be more light (in feel). The Batman movies weigh you down (in a good way) with how deep and emotional they are. However, I completely disagree that the last Spider-Man trilogy is anywhere close to Batman, Iron Man, or even the new Spider-Man movie that recently came out. Avengers was real good and falls in line with the Iron Man type of feel and setting, which makes sense. I think the characters of DC just lend themselves to being the type of movies that reflect what I was talking about with Batman in comparison to Marvel. It doesn't make Marvel inferior; just means that it is different and will not get the critical praise that movies like this Batman trilogy gets. I love the Marvel movies and I get excited as Hell for them. Can't wait for Avengers II or Iron Man III.
I know that I'll probably enjoy 'MAN OF STEEL', but it won't be the same without Tom Welling..
I'll just wait for the next Superman movie and will hope he gets the role next time.

I just watched the teaser trailer for the first time. I got goosebumps. I've never been a Superman fan, but I've always wanted them to release something that would do it justice. Hopefully this totally new reboot from Nolan (as producer) will do what he did for Batman, but with Superman. From the trailer music sounds like Zimmer is composing too, although I could be mistaken.

This is the first time that im actually interested in anything Superman related. I like the grounded type version that it seems they are going for. Hopefully the trailer delivers on its promise.
Zod comes to Earth in a space ship?
hmm...
I loved Superman 2 as a child even though today it is very corny...I hope this one doesn't upset me

In the comic book world there have been varied amounts of Zod entrances into storylines. Although I doubt that it will help with peoples perception of how hes shown in this movie..lol

Was always a little bit on the fence about Superman-related media, but the latest trailer looks really good and interesting. Will probably go see it.
So long as they don't try to make it grim and gritty, or the "realistic version" then it should be at the very least decent.
I think it has potential, that trailer seems to tease more at the Superman as an outsider storyline which I think could work extremely well.
Well, it was strange, I mean it doesnt look anything like a superman I saw before. Looking forward.
:confusedshrug: I dont see the appeal behind superman
Few concerns, from what others have been saying in cbm forums:
#1 - Clark's dad, Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner's) line about maybe letting the kids die, that didn't sit very well. Too overly dramatic.
#2 - The last line about being rejected by the world, can you say X-Men? They're going with the whole "people are afraid of you."
#3 - Superman de-humanization by being taken into custody, etc. feels like the studio will be force feeding us the audience of the relatability of Superman, kind of like "hey guys, we know Superman is so powerful and all but look, he has feelings too." It's fine, I just hope they don't keep shoving it in our faces throughout the film.
Liked the trailer, but didn't love it.
