Athletes (mostly American) get married cause they have this obligation to the society to honor family and be a role model for their fans so in turn they would get married and start families instead of becoming junkies. It is dumb and reeks of hypocrisy but thats how it works.

Nothing new or newsworthy here, ciz this is per California law. Shane Mosley's ex got half of everything as well as 3 of his title belts for his sons. Kobe's hardly the first athlete to have a high profile divorce, so a lot of yo'all need to just let that go.

The tough thing for Kobe is unlike MJ he probably won't have the post-career endorsement revenue. Jordan still makes bank from the Jordan/Nike brand and is still a large sales draw (see NBA 2K series' sales skyrocketing with him on the cover).
Magic was smart too he made a lot of smart business deals after his career. Don't think Kobe has that kind of business sense.
Though he probably will always have a cushy front office job with the Lakers waiting for him.

Yup. It seems like his lawyers basically caved and gave her everything. She must have some crazy dirt on him, lol. So they probably bent over and agreed to give her everything she wanted (all three mansions on top of half, lol) in exchange she keeps her mouth shut.
Though I wonder if some of Kobe's "girlfriends" will start talking soon. Once it started with Tiger, there was like an avalanche.

In California the law, these large settlements you hear about are for "lengthy" marriages. Lengthy being defined as 10 years or more.
