I don't expect Dark Knight Rises to make more money, but I expect to like it more (And I loved Avengers).

Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
I could care less what this does at the box office, has no bearing on quality. All I know is if Nolan's Bane is anything like the comic book version ('Revenge of Bane' and 'Knightfall') than he's going to be a legendary movie foe, and we still don't know what role Ras Al Ghul will play (I know they will at least have a younger version of him, although I've seen some reports that Liam Neeson has a cameo). The general public is ignorant about a lot of things, shouldn't be surprising that they would be about a comic book character. But once the reviews come out, we'll see what critics think of Bane and the movie as a whole.
I remember that people had the same questions about Ledger paying the Joker until Kevin Smith came out with a review calling TDK 'the Godfather 2 of comic book movies' then they hype machine took over from there.
Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
Nope. I heard people going like WTF in the movie theater after the Dark Knight Rises trailer. People just don't like those types of movies. I don't know man.

Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
Bane is one of, if not the, most formidable foe in Batman's rogues gallery. I mean he broke the legends back, even though he caught him slippin. Don't let Schumacher's campy Bane or other cartoon incarnations of the character taint your judgment, Bane is just as mentally imposing as he is physically. Plus, think back to when Ledger was first announced as the Joker- everyone was crying and whining about how they f*cked up by casting the gay cowboy from brokeback as Batman's archnemesis.
Nolan has yet to disappoint and Gary Oldman is on record that he thinks Rises will eclipse TDK because the story is that epic.
I'm not denying that Bane is formidable.
I'm saying he isn't as good a character as the Joker. And I doubt anyone surpasses Ledger's performance in this film. Those two things made TDK.
Well all of that and the Harvey Dent saga but that got kinda lame at the end too.
-
Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?

No I mean once in theaters. 4 times since.

We haven't seen the movie or had any reviews out yet, a bit premature to say that. Everyone who was involved in the project who has spoken out about it is raving about the film, especially Gary Oldman:

"Epic story... it has to be to top TDK"
I've had my theory for how it ends for a while and if I'm right, a lot of minds will be blown. But I have patience, I'm sure Nolan and co. won't let us down
-
Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
No, it won't. It probably won't even out do TDK at the box office.
But Dark Knight Rises will be better than both. Watch.
-
Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
best thing it has going for it is that it's a summer movie and tons of families will be off work/school.
DKR doesn't have the various cast that all types of people can latch onto one way or another. when it comes to the more hardcore comic books types, DKR is catered much more to that group with subject matter. so it will alienate some with the fact it is not as 'mainstream'.
it won't have the same heath ledger buzz behind it but i think after such strong movies to start the series, many will be just as excited. tough to call...i say it's at least close, but probably not

Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
I think Batman and The Dark Knight have much greater name recognition with the general public, due to decades of Batman Movies and the success of The Dark Knight on video.
I worked in a comic book store in college and I had trouble remembering who was in The Avengers, the first time I heard about the movie.

Yep, but not in the box office.
Avengers brings in Hulk fans, Iron Man fans, Thor fans, and Captain America fans. If you are a fan of any one of those, you will go see Avengers. Dark Knight Rises pretty much only brings in Batman fans (and Nolan fans). Batman probably has more fans than any one of those other superheroes, but not collectively, and that is the main reason why it won't bring in as much money (lack of 3D also hurts box office wise)
-
Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
Avengers was no where near as good as the DK, who cares about box office? Avengers I believe is for more age groups so therefore naturally more people can see it.
It was a slightly better version then the transformers, not as polished as the DK was. I am hyped as shot for the "return".
-
Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
Doubt it and I'm a huge Batman fan. Agree that Bane as a villain won't have the same appeal, unless it's the Bane from the Knightfall saga.
Marvel's been a lot better at marketing their stuff than DC has, too.

You really want spoilers?
From going through a lot of Nolan/Batman sites and from all the facts and inside info gathered this is likely the ending (again it's speculation but it's as close as how it may really end based on all the facts they gathered).
Batman supposedly perishes during his fight (Bane is either arrested or likely gets killed accidentally or by his own stupidness - how Batman's villains normally kick the bucket). But of course the truth is, Batman never really dies, instead he will make it look like he did (the same way "Bourne Ultimatum" ends with people believing Jason Bourne is dead, but isn't).
From there, John Blake takes up Batman's place as Gotham's new white knight - something Batman wanted from TDK with Harvey Dent. Film ends with Bruce Wayne basically retiring, and Gotham having a new protector no longer needing Batman.
Oh yeah Bane breaks Batman's leg, not his back.
Again, that's all their speculation based on what they've gathered.

Even Bane from Knightfall isn't enough. Hardcore Batman fans are going whether it is Joker, Bane, or Ventriloquist. The issue is that casual fans know who Joker is but have no idea who Bane is.

Rises had its issues, but much better than the Avengers. That was an average movie at best, Transformers with cheeseball superheros. Thor(the movie)>Avengers.

Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
Lol. It's your story you can tell it anyway you want. Avengers killed GKR and it's one of, if not the, greatest action movie of all time. DKR is an afterthought compared to Avengers.
-
Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
TDKR owns the Avengers.
There was never any sense of real danger or threat in the Avengers. You knew nothing bad was gonna happen to them, the rest of the movie was just going through the motions.
Rises on the other hand, had many several scenes where it looked like not only Batman would meet his demise, but Gotham as well.

You could say the same thing about the first two Batman movies. No threat. Only massive pre-filming speculation on the death of Batman in the final part of the trilogy led to any sense of danger for the protagonist.

Neither one does what the other one does.. These films are polar opposites and are proficient at what they intended.. Seems trivial to try to anoint one as superior when they are such polar opposites.

Nah son :oldlol:
It was no better than your average Michael Bay film. Lots of explosions, maybe some aliens, corny one liners, predictable. The only reason people like you thought it was anything special is because it was hyped up since the first Iron Man movie and Sam Jackson making a cameo at the end.

Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
I know I'm in the minority but it blows my mind how much people like these comic book movies. I get their popular and fun to watch but they get insane ratings\reviews and somebody just throws out the Avengers could be the best action movie of all time, that to me is wild. Iron Man getting like an 8.0 on IMDB and people trying to call Dark Night one of the GOAT movies just doesn't make sense to me.
Guess it's all subjective and everybody has an opinion and there's different types of movies so not trying to say those movies suck or anything, actually thought the Dark Night was really well done. Seeing it ranked 8th of All-Time on a site like IMDB makes me think I'm crazy tho :oldlol:

Avengers had the potential to flop on multiple levels but instead, we got a movie that was balanced and fun.
If anything tdkr was corny what with that whole scene where a prepubescent little girl is able to complete a longjump that grown men have been failing at for years. Smh

Re: Will Dark Knight Rises break Avengers recently set box office record?
The Avengers appealed to a wider range of audience, especially younger kids. Plus, it sold 3D tickets, which are more expensive.

It's nostalgia homie, amazing to see these childhood fantasies brought to life. Not to mention that these recent comicbook movies have been high quality productions that stand on their own as action movies.

It's not really like that. Internationally, you have a LOT of people who have never ever read the comics, they go to watch Batman or Avengers because it's a good film. The comic book aspects comes very little in it.

I agree. They are really well done, well acted etc. Nolan killed it with the Batman series.
