Re: Real signature moves:Hakeem Olajuwon Dream Shake
OP, you might find this interesting considering you're looking to continue this project with other signature moves.
From SI weekly issue 16/3/1998. Top 5 moves in the NBA.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/features/1998/weekly/980316/5bestmoves.html
1. Hakeem Olajuwon's Dream Shake
2. Michael Jordan's Fadeaway
3. Allen Iverson's and Tim Hardaway's Crossovers
4. Steve Smith's Fake Spin
5. Shaquille O'Neal's Drop Step
There's also a nice piece on the past and the future if you scroll down the page showcasing some unique moves of the old school players + the future generation.
You have the Magic no look pass, Monroe's spin move, Erving's behind-the-basket drives, Grant Hill's stutter, hesitation dribble, ect.
thanks for the link...
few thoughts..
The article left a couple things out ( that I will touch on as I cover the moves)
#1. The "Crossover" , Tim's and Allens are both a change of direction....but they are very different.
Hardaway starts by putting the ball between his legs...once the ball passes through into his off hand he throws a shoulder roll (almost like a boxer) and steps.
Iverson never puts the ball through his legs....he changes levels to take a hard dribble....then passes the ball in front of his body to the other hand..
I will touch on this move when I do Hardaway....both were changing direction moves...but vastly different..
also.."shaq's drop step"..the writer must have been to young to watch Mchale....as clearly Kevin Mchale mastered the drop step better then anyone..
Mchale could drop his pivot so tight , defenders would literally get trapped and many times fall forward tripping...Mchale was tru master of the post
Re: Real signature moves:Hakeem Olajuwon Dream Shake
Great thread, glad it got bumped.
How about one of my favorites Magic's carryover
Re: Real signature moves:Hakeem Olajuwon Dream Shake
If I had to pick a center [for an all-time best team], I would take Olajuwon... He always made great decisions on the court. For all facets of the game, I have to give it to him.”
What can you say?
Olajuwon at the peak of his powers is the best big man of modern era.He is the best defender and to top it off,he is utterly unstoppable, something that neither Duncan nor Shaq can claim: while Rasheed Wallace was Duncan stopper, the Spurs were Shaq's kryptonite.
Re: Real signature moves:Hakeem Olajuwon Dream Shake
Duncan bank shot... Has he used them recently? I feel like I'm seeing less of them. Which is weird since he's gotten older and one would think he would have to use them more often.
he gets a lot less touches on the low block, where he can shoot that banker, and he gets more open jumpers off of pick and pops at the top of the key, because parker is just such a monster on the high pick and roll
i think thats why we see less bankers from timmy
Re: Real signature moves:Hakeem Olajuwon Dream Shake
Hakeem stole the dream shake from MJ, who had used it since his rookie year
Re: Real signature moves:Hakeem Olajuwon Dream Shake
Thomas Edison stole the invention of the light bulb from MJ, who had it all planned more than 50 years before being conceived.

Re: Real signature moves:Hakeem Olajuwon Dream Shake
The Wright brothers also stole the invention of the airplane from MJ, who had planned out man made flight over 60 years before his conception
Re: Real signature moves:Hakeem Olajuwon Dream Shake
Einstein stole the Theory of Relativity from MJ’s lab notes, which he had written over half a century before he was born.

How am.i trolling when it's a historical fact that MJ was doing the move long before Hakeem?
Re: Real signature moves:Hakeem Olajuwon Dream Shake
It's no different then Elgin Baylor doing eurosteps back in the 60's:

Hakeem was more like 6'10 than a 7footer. He is the most skilled center i've ever seen. No Barkley signature moves? Barkley used to have one of the best spin moves in the NBA and they the precusors of Shaq's black tornados.
