All told, petitions have been filed on behalf of 20 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
it sounds to me like though Texas is getting all the attention because it is the only state that has the economy to pull it off...other states like Cali are in the hole and couldn't possibly do it

Or maybe it's because the Texas petition has 10 times as many votes as the one in New York.

Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
I'm thinking about launching a new career as a right-wing hack. These guys make a lot of money. And they're having less and less of an effect on people's thinking, so there's little harm. Launching the secession attempt here in Massachusetts would be a good start.

yeah and 10x the population as well
all that is needed is 20k votes and all those states have that
if those other states where as enormous as Texas they would have as many votes

I thought New York and Texas were pretty close?
Either way, the Texas poll is by far the most popular secession petition and by far the most popular petition overall. Even if it's due to Texas' size in comparison to the other states, obviously it's still the most striking one at first glance. Texas is nr 1, the other states are somewhere below the legalize marijuana petition.

Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
This is stupid and makes me ashamed to live in Texas. Anyway, just hope everyone realizes that 80k signatures still means these are the views of a VERY small majority of Texans. I mean, San Antonio alone has like 1.5 million people living in it. Now we just know that there are 80 thousand dumb-asses somewhere in Texas (imagine that). One is probably the dude outside my apt with trucknuts on his F150. :facepalm

Wouldn't matter. The drug cartels would have already moved in a taken over Texas. The ones who sign this petition seem to be under the impression that the cartels either don't exist, or that they can easily be overpowered with the shotgun in their closet

Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
Rofl, this is hilarious. They will NEVER get enough votes from rest of Texas to secede from USA. Who cares about 80,000 votes? If you want to leave, you're free to leave the country. No need to try to take down others with you. Go someplace where you think you will be better off. Just don't come back crying when you realize that nowhere else is like here, spoiled ignorant brats.

Obviously if a secession took place the US would withdraw most if not all of its military.
These people are petitioning to the wrong folks! If you're serious...petition to the state government to have a referendum or prop to vote on this in the next elections. That's the only way to do it.

Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
How many foreign governments, private firms etc do you think go to their trade partners because they are situated in Texas? You think the matter of seceding from the US is something in the hands of the people? This report can only be a joke report to troll on the organizers of such idiotic petitions.

Cartels would shite on military people too. They have all these crazy guerrilla tactics which the military couldn't handle in Vienam. Not only that, but there is too much money to throw around. You really think Texans would turn down thousands of $$$ in bribes? There's a reason we haven't got involved with Mexico.

no dude :facepalm Texans could accept bribes RIGHT NOW if they wanted, you think being a part of the US has prevented them from taking over Texas ? lol
Like all they need is for Texas to secede and they will suddenly be able to flood the state over?
Cartels are pretty much limited to machine guns...they couldn't handle an actual military complete with missiles and such lol

It's not a matter of people or guns. Texas has plenty of those but those only get you a militia.
A military consists of far more technology, resources, weaponry, aircraft, ships, etc

even if texas seceded, the united states military isn't going to let the cartel take over texas. it's just not going to happen. i'm in fort hood right now, trust me, they don't have anywhere to place these troops outside of texas.

we would have that tech...
I'm sure there would be a huge debate over weather or not we get nukes lol...but we would have all that tech, and enough resources to still be somewhat powerful, perhaps even a top-10 army in the world still, idk, the US has spent a lot in military and a decent chunk of that would carry over.

So you think the U.S. wouldn't take its technology, its weapons, its ships, its planes, etc? You think that the US would help fund a new Texan military too? Ironically, Texans would be taxed out of their asses to form a competent military.
I can't agree that the U.S. would provide resources and funding even if this was a peaceful venture. There would be some cooperation because of the economic ties and such, but military? Get out of here!

okay this debate is turning silly now but obviously it would be a peaceful split...and even if the US insisted of stripping out all the hardware WE STILL HAVE THE TECH, like I was said...it isn't like they can remove the technology to build missiles and tanks from us...
-
Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
lol, what a bunch of dunces.
I'm pretty sure the other 47 continental states would love the federal money that would otherwise have spent in Texas to go somewhere other than the sinkhole that is the US/Mexico border. Pull every single federal asset out of the state and let a bunch of good ol' boys and girls defend their state from drug cartels and fence-jumpers. See how quick they're asking back in to the union.
This kind of stuff is why the world laughs at us.
-
Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
it would be a huge security risk to the entire united states if the u.s. military didn't continue protecting texas.

See that's where it gets blurry on how certain companies would be moderated if their HQ are in the US and not TX.
But such technology requires massive amounts of money and also time.

The flip side of that coin is all the money Texans pay in taxes wouldn't be going to the Federal Government
Texas business's and people are huge contributors of taxes to the US
