OK I'm back ISH Fam
Went Holidaying in Kuala Lumpur over the Christmas break, good to get away from work. Bought 2 pairs of Lebron XI's while there too, can't wait to break them in.
How bout you guys, how was your Christmas?
Now, on to the business.
Only managed to play twice since last post, all the courts shut over the break, so it's hard to get a game unless you know some people.
I ended up getting some games with my mate, whose dad runs a comp.
All the older filo guys play. Only problem I have playing with older filo dudes is that they play dirty.
First sesh, went ok, jumpshot was outta rhythm and my handles were a bit loose. Hit a few mid range J's but also bricked a couple, and an air ball. But as a whole, wasn't horrible. First time playing with this group, being the only white guy there, I didn't get any respect. So when I hit my first few shots it felt good. Didn't really enjoy playing with this group to much though.
Second sesh was a week later, after the new years break. With the same group as before, but took my brother with me. He experienced the same disrespect I did the week earlier. He didn't really get many scoring opportunities as his more of a physical hustle player. Did bank a 3 in and score some post buckets though.
Again, my J was just not right, did hit a couple though. But my handles felt worse than the previous week. Lost the ball quite easily a couple times. Our team lost every game, only by a few points. However in the final game, against the tallest team, we played our best. I believe we were robbed of a win by the refs.
Felt like they were calling bs fouls against us. I don't know if it had anything to do with me and my bro being white, but it wouldn't be the first time I've had this experience with older filo guys. We also got called for a shot clock violation on our very last play, after the shot was released, and after they had not made that call all day... :facepalm teams had quite often had over 30 seconds...
Not sure if I plan on going back to that sesh seeing us the sesh I run on Saturdays is starting back up this week.
Also, the team that I use to play on is starting again in the next few weeks, so can't wait to play with those guys again. Hopefully our chemistry and flow comes back rather quick after having 6 months off.
That's all for now, probably update again later this week, going to a sesh on Wednesday night that my mate runs, his going to be training fundamentals so it will be good to learn seeing as I have mainly been self taught.
Also starting my skipping routine again after the break off. Put on about 4-5kg's / approx 9 pounds, so hoping to get back into better shape than before.
AI2D Out
Just practicing my dribbling and handles yesterday. Watched some highlights of Iverson and Hardaway on youtube.
Played a few sessions this week, nothing to major though as its been mid 40 degrees all week... in other words, hot as feck.
However, my social team that I play for has started back up after taking a 6 month hiatus.
Played our first game on Tuesday (2 days ago.)
We were against a very tall team but with no real ball handler.
Our team is made up of 8 people.
There's me, I'm the starting PG, the strongest ball handler on the team, really the only ball handler on the team, and the best passer. I am probably the leader on offense, but I don't really look at it like that.
My bro, who Is much like a combo of a forward and guard. He is same height as me, 5'8, but he gyms a lot so his built. Strong inside, hustles on D and fast breaks, not a great ball handler but probably the second best.
Then our C, about 6'4, not very skilled, but has a lot of heart and is more defensive minded. does get quite a few offensive rebounds though.
Our SF is also tall, but skinnier, very soft though but with a lot of length helps in out. Him and my bro normally play top on D, leaving me to play baseline as I have a good understanding on where to be and I am great at boxing out much larger players.
And our PF is not much taller than me, but he is wide and large. Good mid range shooter, good rebounder and also good passer, his like a glue guy personality. Smart and can bring a team together.
Our bench consist of a back up guard, skinny guy, 5'7, fouls out a lot, but his high energy. Biggest weakness is his black hole defence though. Also not a great passer. His position is just to push the fast break.
A forward, new guy, 6'0, hasn't played much but he learns quick, I've already got him making good cuts, just needs to practice finishing. Not a bad defender and good rebounder.
And another forward, not great skill wise, but high energy and heart. Always gets back on D. He knows his role though, doesn't play out side his skills.
Anyway, we came out a bit rusty, we were down at the end of the first half, 5-15. I missed my first couple shots, we were struggling to contain their size, granted most of their points came of lucky 3's.
In the second half we came out strong and fought back. I got to the ft line, bricked both shots :facepalm but I did get my own rebound on the second and floated it in. Ended the game with 6.
We ended up winning by 2, I passed to our PF after drawing the D for a wide open J, he hit it, 20 seconds left, there best player drove and our C blocked him. Then we just ran down the clock.
Good win on the first game back.
One thing I did notice and remember, is when I have the ball, everyone tends to stand there and wait for me to make something happen, I'm good at drawing the D and getting a pass off. It get's frustrating, especially when I get trapped or pick it up. I'll look to improve on my skills as we progress.
That's it for now, Laters

Hi All,
Just a quick update.
Got our second game in our social league tonight, games at 7pm. It's an ok time, but its sorta too early to have dinner, but too late as in I'll feel hungry before the game. Hopefully my misses has bought some bananas to have before the game.
Got mad butterflies though, haven't felt so nervous in along time.
Had a 3 hour session on Saturday, half court pick up games to 11. Played pretty good. Hit some big shots and made some big plays. Had a sick Iso, cross left to right then a pull up fading right with the D in my face, splash all net.
Then had a mixed game on Sunday night. Scoreboard was down, which is a bit frustrating.
Played well again though against much taller opponents, ended the first half down by 1.
I took over at the start of the second, scoring multiple fast break buckets in a row. Fatigue started kicking in late in the second half, and most of my shots rolled out. Lay ups and all, so I just looked more to facilitate. We ended up winning by 10.
I'll look to do a more detailed write up, probably later in the week. Until then, happy Balling!!!
Game today we were up 32-12 at the half, ended up losing by 1 on a free throw after the buzzer! Brutal finish.
Me and my cousins ran a 4v4 at the Y yesterday against two athletic guys who were lightning quick and tall. Us being the underdogs, we ended up winning but it was tough. Whenever we play, I always hear people watching saying stuff like, They better not lose to these guys and oh my god they won? Do you guys like being underestimated (if you are)? I hate it, but then when we win its satisfying.
Also, what are some ways to become better on defense? I definitely need to work on my quickness and strength. Any tips?
Man, oh man, oh man :facepalm
Our game on Tuesday was a bit terrible. We just couldn't hit anything.
Again, we found ourselves 5-17 at the half. I was 0-4 on fg and had only hit 1-2 ft.
My bro was 0-4. And our bigs were missing everything.
Every one was so down at the half, so I was trying to lift their energy, get some passion going. Our team is more defensively minded, but we were flat, getting out rebounded multiple times.
I started bench in the second half, I cringed watching the team operating with out me. My brother did what he could, but no one was moving, at all. it was ugly. The other team started a small run on us which hurt.
Down by 17. 16 minutes left, I checked in, Our main C checked out. I mixed it up a bit. I pumped the fast break to the max, pushed it at every second.
I dragged my team mates with me, If they couldn't keep up, I told them to sub.
Next thing we were on a major run, I was pushing the ball leading to multiple 3 on 2/1 breaks, then making no look passes to the cutters for easy lay ups, catching the other team off guard. I hit a bank shot and a floater.
We clawed back into it, the next thing I know, I look at the score board and were down by 1. The very next play, I pushed the ball, had our PF on my left, chucked a sweet on handed no look, and he finished it sliding in next to the ring.
Up one with 1:00 left. They came down the floor, they got a good look inside, our C grabbed the board and immediately dished to me on the baseline. The D was pressing hard, I threw a pass fake and got space to dribble out, once clear, took my time and used the clock. We kicked it around the top until we had 10 seconds left on the shot clock.
I called for it and swung it to the right quickly where my bro was open for a mid range J. He hits it Kobe style, 1-9 fg and puts us up by 3 with 15 seconds left. The other team chucked a quick 3, air ball, I got the rebound in traffic, banged it off my knee, out of bounds as time expired.
It was an amazing win. 2 Clutch wins in a row for this team, our goal next week is to score more than 5 points in the first half haha
thanks for reading, later peeps
I'm the starting SG for the club I play for, having a solid season. However, I had to miss the last 2 games due to work commitments. I come back last night for the next game and I'm benched and got very limited minutes :facepalm
I suck dude, it's hard to play against good players when you have no discernable skills and terrible handles.
Some group of 4 dudes came to the park I go to and straight up wrecked us every single game, even after I stopped playing the best players at my park were getting destroyed too. These were like ****ing teenagers, feels bad man and they probably get more ***** than my grown ass self.
Gonna play basketball this coming afternoon. I had bronchitis, and I just recently recovered.
We just played 3 on 3. My team won.
Played 3 on 3 today, and god it was bad, me and my brother did alright but the other kid on our team could not play defense and kept going for bad steals, then I got fouled any time I tried to move, the kid was shoving me away from the basket and putting both hands and forearms on my back, but early in the game he tried to shoot a three and thought I was far enough away from him that I could not block it, it was about halfway between him and the basket, 1 step and then my gather, pretty much grabbed the ball out of the air and threw it on the ground  my brother had a nice block when one of the other guys was driving in, he always hooked the arm, and his teammate set a illegal screen, the other guy went for a lay in and my brother went through the screen and knocked the ball out of bounds like he was Dikembe Mutumbo :lol
Had a grading game last night in my social league.
We were versing this new team, and as soon as they got there, I knew we were in for a long night.
The team we were versing were all refs. And just like I thought, refs protect refs :facepalm Not to mention we were missing one of our top scorers and also every guy on the other team was tall and long.
We lost 23-50. I was getting doubled as soon as I touched the ball, and we were flat out getting man handled, no calls at all. I had 3 fouls in the first 5 minutes, and I rarely foul. I average .10 fouls a game per season that's how little I foul.
I also got called for a tech just for smiling at a ref after he ignored a obvious foul, I faked this dude out, and rose for a J, and the guy full bodied me. They ref was like 'his arms were straight up.' Didn't even check his friggen body taking me out. So frustrating. Everyone on our team is like, what'd you say? but I said absolutely nothing, just smiled, that was all :facepalm
Oh well, onto next week, it was only grading anyway. It's hard to stay focussed on getting better after games like that.

Damn that must be annoying..
that bolded part tho :lol It doesnt matter if he has his hands up, you just cant touch the shooter if hes going straight up.
Good luck next time.
Played 2 on 2 to 21. These niqqas couldn't hold me. I hit 5 threes (counted them as twos) and then finished off with some drives and finishes.
Fell to my knees towards the end but kept the dribble going and stood up and hit a fadeaway for the win.
Shit was too easy
played with like 4 junior high kids and 4 dudes in their thirties plus me and my homey who are about halfway between the two. if everyone at or below the median scored at or below the median and half the thirty somethings set the high and low, how many points did the other two thirty somethings score combined?
Played pick up basketball with a group of friends and had a blast with it.
For the first time i managed to shake someone left-to-right, right-to-left etc 4 times consecutively. It felt real good and motivates me to work on my dribbling even more
sometimes I dribble against the wall, other times I lay on my back and just flick the ball into the air wit a lot of spin. Other times I'll just watch girls volleyball and hide my erection with the basketball
Just finished playing 5 on 5 games. My team won 42-34.
played some 5 on 5 yesterday, lost 34-42
I am practicing my 3 points shooting. I memorize the spots. Gonna upload a picture and video of me practicing my 3 points shooting.
I took some video of me playing today, at one point I hit twenty four 3s in a row, had the camera framed up perfectly and everything too but then I got jumped and somebody took the camera, I begged them to leave me the memory card but that just made him beat me worse. I woke up in a hospital with some cracked ribs and a broken orbital bone in my face. My head hurts so bad. I'm posting from my iphone that didn't get stolen cause I kept it in my ass cheeks
I'm living vicariously through my little brother at the moment. His team moved to 10-1 last night with a victory over the no. 9 team in the state. They have a tough stretch coming up (a few more runs against state-ranked opponents) so I trust the lofty record won't stand, but it's been a nice start regardless. congrats to your brother Rake!
congrats to your brother Rake!
Ha, thank you. They've got a tough road ahead of them, including a back-to-back against good teams on Monday and Tuesday, so we'll see what happens.
Nice work Rake, I know the feeling a little bit, even though there's only 3 years between me and my bro, and we play on the same team.
I often teach him no things, and when he scores a bucket, I feel like it was me haha
Morning all,
Had our next game for my social league Tuesday comp. Last game of grading. We had an unlucky draw and were against a team who I've played many times previously but never beaten.
Bit of background, first time I played them was a few years ago, I had an amazing game, but no one else on my team showed up. This team get's you unfocussed cause they complain a lot... and I mean a lot.
Also, they are somehow friends with all the refs, if I was a ref, I would start handing out techs left and right. They talk to the refs like shit, but cause their friends, it's like meh.
The last time we played this team was in my social mixed league on Sunday night. They were complaining at every call, like normal, even the calls in their favour. At halftime I had just had enough, we were done by 5, but in a mixed social league where the result doesn't matter, I just couldn't be bothered. So when we took the floor again, they were still sooking, So I just said to their guys "stop bitching and play the damn game."
I said it a few times, until one of them approached me and asked why I have to be such a smart arse, I just repeated "stop sooking & play the game."
He then lowered his shoulder into me with force. I laughed and he got ejected. They won, but it would have been an empty win.
So we ended up playing them last night, just to add, we were missing our leading scorer PF and our C. One to injury, the other to work.
So there we are, only me and my bro have any confidence with the ball.
Immediately they started complaining, say we were pushing back on box outs, elbowing etc. None of which is true.
Cause we were successfully boxing them out and keeping the score close, they didn't even attempt for rebounds, just run full stem into our players in the back. Yeah we got the foul. But I started asking to ref to protect our players, levelling someone who is stationary from behind has to be un-sportsman foul I thought. But, seeing as they were friends with the refs, it lead to nothing. This game I purely focussed on moving the ball, and getting the team moving the ball too.
First my brother fouled out on a questionable foul call, then we lost another guard with 5 minutes left, leaving us 4 vs 5. unfortunately none of my other team mates were focussed and I was left guarding the whole top of the key by myself. I was telling one to step up and play box, but they were just looking blank. We lost in the end but we played well.
We didn't complain once and stayed focussed, even after the win, they were still complaining.
It leads me to question, what sort of life outside of ball do they have, they all seem like the lower dregs of society. How can they have fun playing ball when they bring so much disrespect to the game, and how can the refs still be friends with them when they get treated like dirt?
Either way, I don't believe we will have to play them again, hopefully not anyway.
Until probably next week

After their huge win last Friday, my brother's team lost back-to-back games this past Monday and Tuesday (Monday was a makeup game for a snow date). Last night a feller from the other squad, committed to play football at Eastern Michigan next year, dropped 30 points and 26 rebounds against my brother. Crazy.
Their conference is kind of nuts at this point. They have four teams ranked in the state top 20 (including my brother's team, at no. 19, before the losses) and likely five in the top 25. They're all just taking turns beating up on each other right now. It's like a high school version of the Big10.
my left hand is a major issue, not in the sense of dribbling or laying up or anything, I just mean, what's the deal with it? It's like a retarded version of my good hand. keep up lefty, you're holding me back cuz

:biggums:
Don't worry bout Al, he's trying to be funny. We all have to start somewhere.
Played to games of 4 on 4 last night the teams I was on lost both games :( first game was lost because my older brother could not hit a shot all day I did not really play offense did not have much energy so I used that for defense, although I did have a nice fastbreak lay in with my left hand and I am right handed and if we played FT it would have been a and one, but the first game was just bad, and the second game me and my brother got these two kids on our team that we are sure only play one on one most of the time, and they put no effort on the defensive and shot jacked on the offensive and almost never passed, we lost because they didn't grab a rebound the right way and the other team was able to steal it from them, but we had been down like 3 to 12 lost 15 to 14 because me and my brothers defense stopped them from scoring those other kids hardly did anything one of them was walking over and talking to the other leaving his man wide open. But it was fun two games of full court so I can't complain much, I just want to join a league so I can play against people who bring 100% percent every game.
Also when ever I went and drove in and jumped for the lay in it felt like I could dunk it and I was getting really high up there.
Morning ISH fam,
Had our last game of grading yesterday, playing a team a div above us.
I'm trying to get into my teams head to pass & cut, we quite often have possessions of 1 pass, then drive/shoot.
I am taking very few shots as I bring the ball up and then I pass. I rarely get it back. The only time I get a shot is when I take it straight away, which I feel really selfish doing.
We lost the game by 15 odd points, I tried to create, but with no one cutting, floor spacing was very poor. Also, our bench guard when his on, loves getting in your way. I aimed to learn from this game, and tried to keep the team positive. My handle was also feeling a bit looser than normal today which led to a few easy turnovers.
We played it out hard and finished the game off, I also recorded a couple of blocks. Our starting PF is out with a "clicking knee" which is really annoying, I play almost every game with sore/aching knees. I think he is just being soft, But I'm not calling him out on it.
Our team captain has informed me to recruit a replacement for him, I have a guy who I'll ask, same height as the injured PF but plays a lot bigger & stronger, loves blocks and can finish inside. Our team is missing a tall finisher inside.
Our other forward returns to action next Tuesday when he returns from holidays in the Philippines. Our C has been next to useless for this season, he sprained his ankle quite badly last season we played (1 year ago) and has never truly recovered from it.
So season officially starts next week, it will be good to get settled in our div, and play some even competition. Got a session at the court tonight with my bro, going to try teach him some more ball movement and floor spacing.
Also want to try get some more running involved to try and get some fitness back, been really poor with exercise as of late.
Until next week, laters
anyone else notice that being athletic is a very important part of being a good basketball player? i've been playing pickup recently, and i always run with the same group of guys. we practice our skills minimally, but we regularly hit the weights and are strong and fast. all of us can dunk(i can only dunk off an oop)
well anyway, we always play against average joes that practice their skills like crazy. they're a lot better then us at ball skills, but when it comes to game time they can't even compete with us.
Caught a game at my former high school last Friday. They had an 18 point second half lead. Their opponent whittled the lead down to 9 with three minutes left in the fourth quarter. Then a player from my alma mater fouled a guy on the shot, pushed another player (twice), was T'd up, talked trash to an official, was given numerous chances to walk away, continued talking, then was T'd up again and ejected.
As a result of that mess, the opposition made six consecutive free throws, retained possession and came extremely close to tying the ballgame up on a quick hitting triple try that rimmed in and out. Would have been the first nine point possession I'd ever witnessed in my life.
