The funny thing is, Lebron has been better than Kobe since 05
Lebron was better in 05-06 but -06-08 are def kobe years.. There is no doubt about kobe being better than bron during those years IMO...
"They are very similar. Kobe in his prime was probably the better all around player, but LeBron has taken over that title."
Seems like to me he is saying that when Kobe was in his prime, he was the better all around player which is obvious because Lebron was not in his prime yet. Then he's saying now Lebron is the better overall player because he is in HIS prime which is obvious because Kobe is not in his prime anymore. So at the end of the day, it sounds like he's just using common sense...
Problem with common sense is that it's not common on this board.. I agree with your conclusion..
-
Re: Dominique Wilkins: Kobe Bryant in his prime better all around player than Lebron
A poll of non-laker/kobe/Lebron/Heat fans would probably have this at about 90% for LeBron being better prime for prime.
-
Re: Dominique Wilkins: Kobe Bryant in his prime better all around player than Lebron
Pretty obvious he's saying prime vs prime Kobe was better, with Lebron being in his prime now and thus atm better.

Obviously Nique would say that... He's the same sort of "All me" player.
Ask Magic, Pippen, Robertson or Bird for their opinions on the matter and you'll get a different answer.
-
Re: Dominique Wilkins: Kobe Bryant in his prime better all around player than Lebron
First of all, Nique starts off by saying that they are very similar which to be honest his opinion is disqualified right there.
Second, Kobe is good at many things but being an overall better player than Lebron is not one of them. Not many players have been actually. riptheshit, not even you believe that dawg.

Magic and Bird have often stated Kobe as being best player. Not sure where you get your info from.

You could just as easily spin it in the other direction.
You could say he said that Kobe in his prime but only because LeBron hadn't reached his own prime yet. When LeBron did reach his prime, he took the title.
Just accept it for what it is. It's was a PC answer. Kobe was better at one time and LeBron was better at another time. Typical dodge.

No, he's not comparing their primes to each other..He's saying each was the better all around player when they were both respectively in their primes...Not that one's prime is better than the others...

No.

Re: Dominique Wilkins: Kobe Bryant in his prime better all around player than Lebron
Kobe and Lebron are both the total package. Both great scorers, great passers, great defenders, and great rebounders (for perimeter players). So that puts them in rare company. The only other guys u can say that about are MJ, West, Wade, and Hondo. And I guess arguably a Big O and prime G HIll.
But all around wise, I gotta go with Bron. He's a better passer, better rebounder, and more versatile. As great as Kobe is, he's not capable of playing and defender 4 to 5 positions. But for many years, Kobe was better than Bron though. Once Bron got better on D and really exploiting his versatility, I think Bron became better once Kobe fell from peak level. So with those two factors, sure Bron is the better all around player. But Bron is more similar of course to the Big O, Magic, and Bird. While Kobe is more similar to MJ. All these guys are great all around players but do it differently.

You could, but you'd clearly be delusional in thinking that's what Nique meant.
Prime vs Prime, he takes Kobe. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think it's funny how the only people who say "Lebron is better at his peak and it's not even close" are Lebron stans and/or Kobe detractors. Never in my life have I heard a qualified and unbiased basketball mind say something like that. The vast majority of people will tell you it's VERY close. Lebron dick riders like Nash and pauk love to act like it's some kind of consensus.

By all means, make an argument in which you can safely say Kobe Bryant peaked higher than LeBron.
Here's another question, are peak Jordan and peak Kobe close? What about Shaq?

Domminique obviously dosen't know what he's talking about. He never once mentioned PER, TS % or Win Shares. I doubt he's qualified to talk on the NBA

Prime Kobe was a better defender, far more skilled scorer and can still drop 6 dimes and 6 rebounds.

I don't know if I'd agree. I like Kobe better, but I think LeBron is the clear pick here IMO (not an indictment of Kobe though, who was a BEAST).
I guess it depends what you value though. Give either a good supporting cast and you'll be in great shape.

I read it and it sounded to me that he said that Kobe back in his prime, say in 2006 was better than Lebron in 2006, and that Lebron now in 2013 is better than Kobe in 2013. So he didn't really give an answer of prime for prime.
Here's what he said:

Exactly! Those shooting percentages aren't inefficient at all. To an extent, I think FG% can be overrated at times.

That's what Nique was trying to say u r right. Kobe in 2006 was better than Bron. Bron didn't have the defense down the way he does today. And let's face it, it was only Bron's third year in the L while Kobe was at his peak years basically. Nique made an on point assessment to me. Kobe was in the L 7 years before Bron got there. It's not like they are under three years apart.

Re: Dominique Wilkins: Kobe Bryant in his prime better all around player than Lebron
Again, if he wanted to say Lebron was better, he would have just named Lebron. No need to talk about Kobe's prime. Reason he did is to show that Kobe's prime was the better of both players. However, at this point, naturally Lebron has taken over.
Oh Jameer give it up, your kiddy girls will cheer you up i'm sure.

isn't it naturally to clear it up as today Lebron is in his prime and Kobe is not? He wouldn't want to make a statement to mislead people to think He'd take today's Kobe over today's Lebron. :confusedshrug:

No. If you were asked, who's better between some scrub in 1980 vs MJ, would you say, the 1980 scrub's prime was better, but MJ took over? No you wouldn't. If he wanted to say Lebron then he would have just said Lebron because he was better than Kobe ever was, no need to mention Kobe. Use your goddamn head. I'm not being paid to be an English teacher so this is the last time I'll explain it to you. There's no other explanation. He values Kobe's prime more over Lebrons, although present day Lebron is better.
Is that so hard to accept? It goes in line with the opinions of probably half of what the top 15 all time greats have said. They all respect Kobe... not Lebron. Deal with it.
ps. This has been posted on other sites and no one's even disputed the meaning... But I guess i underestimated the intelligence of lebron stans..

At no point would the scrub have been better than MJ.
Anyhow.....
during Bird's prime he was the better player over Jordan, but when Jordan entered his prime he took that title.
Exact same statement. Still completely true. Makes no assertion of prime vs prime. You already know that though.
Your games fail.

Re: Dominique Wilkins: Kobe Bryant in his prime better all around player than Lebron
This just confirms to me that being a great scorer has too much value in the NBA. This is why guys like Carmelo Anthony get labeled superstars.
Lebron not only puts up scoring numbers like Kobe he does so on a more efficient basis. Every other category in the game and Lebron wins by a landslide. Lebron has an big edge in rebounding, defending, shot blocking, and passing. Lebron has even shown himself to be a clutch shooter, hitting game winner in the NBA finals. Kobe went 6-24 in a game 7.
Lebron> Kobe and it's not even close. Kobe>Lebron at hitting fade aways.

Lebron is simply more efficient I'll give you that. If I was picking for my NBA team maybe I'd go with Lebron. If I wanted to win an NBA game? I'm going with Kobe. Especially if Lebron doesn't have a stack-team, it equals no success. Give Kobe 1 good big man and he's ready to go.
I'll take the W over efficient stats all day, every day.
