Re: Post your go to Chipotle meal
at the local mexican place i usually have guacamole casero and shrimp/tilapia ceviche.
basically a mix of fresh veggies, high-quality fat (avocado), and high-quality protein (seafood) without all the carbohydrate load of the rice, refried beans, tortillas, sour cream, etc.
tastes great, and very healthy.

Re: Post your go to Chipotle meal
Chipotle is for white people that like bland fake Mexican food.
Yes and No.
It is watered down white people fake Mexican food, but it does have it's purpose.
It isn't authentic by any means, but it aint bad.
I tend to criticize restaurants that claim to be 'Mexican' but offer very bland horrible food (El Torito, Acapulco etc.etc). I hate going into a Mexican 'Grill' and they're playing salsa or merengue music. There's actually been instances in which my pops and I walked away as soon as we heard them playing 'salsa' music, wouldn't even waste our time. We'll even leave a place if we see a Tapatio bottle on the table (make your own damn hot sauce). So Im generally very specific and selective over my Mexican food.
I used to criticize the shit out of Chipotle as a 'white boy' version of Mexican food stupidly, before eating there.
But when I did try it :wtf: I actually liked it. I was turned off as soon as I stepped foot because they were playing rock music and not Mexican music, but I wasn't gonna be a jack ass and tell my coworkers we should leave. I ordered a barbacoa burrito thinking "let see what they know about barbacoa". Sure enough, the white dude helping me out didn't know what the f*ck I ordered since I said it the proper way.
But then I tried it.
That shit was good.
It was better than some legit Mexican food spots and some weddings that I've tried it in.
Not the most authentic, but it still serves it's purpose... shit be tasty.
It aint Tacos El Unico, King Taco, or Don Chente (L.A. area Mexican food spots for those that aint know).... but it still does a good job.

Re: Post your go to Chipotle meal
Tacos are awesome, but I always feel some type of way when I see them put a pinch of meat on the shell.
-
Re: Post your go to Chipotle meal
I'm Mexican and I think Chipotle is horrible, I don't get all the hype. You can just go to a local Mexican restaurant and buy a much better quality burrito with pretty much the same price.

you should read up on Tilapia. apparently 95% of the Tilapia in the US comes from Chinese fish farms. China's fish farms are extremely polluted where they use many pesticides, antibiotics, and antifungal drugs. There are also articles talking about Tilapia being a fish with the 'bad' fatty acids altho with some positives, but they compare it to bacon.
until recently i didn't realize how important the meats we eat and how they're caught/raised was to people's health, but damn its a huge eye opener i'm really believing in....its almost impossible tho to know where what everything you eat comes from. Much of it seems to come from China because its so cheap and mass produced there but the worst place due to the pollution.
i guess Chipotle and Panera are the 2 places i'm aware of that are real picky about where their meats come from, but i have no clue of any place else. i'm still eating whatever tho, no way i can just limit myself to those 2 places out of paranoia

Re: Post your go to Chipotle meal
@godzuki,
yea i know exactly what you mean. i heard (or read) a report a few weeks ago on chinese tilapia. it's not so much the usual additives that are the eye-opener -- after all, they do similar in the US -- but the fact that in order to remain competitive, chinese pond farmers have taken to replacing standard fish food with raw animal sewage.
so you know, be ready for salmonella and whatever other pathogens(!) anyway, i did in fact ask the owner (who's a buddy) where he gets the fish and shrimp, and he said he'd investigate.
on the plus side i haven't gotten sick yet, and ceviche cooks the fish in a way very different than usual (blanched, then denatured in a citrus bath). also, tilapia is a class of fish near the bottom of the chain, so one thing you apparently don't have to worry about (like with tuna) is mercury / heavy metal poisoning.
it's getting to be pretty dicey eating fish in general, though. everyone needs to find out exactly what it is, where it comes from, and then do the appropriate research.
but china is pretty much turning in to one big shithole, so no way would you want to buy animal products or certain types of building materials from them.

Well the rock and water parts of the earth will obviously endure but humans are fukcing up ecosystems that literally took millions of years to evolve, and are destroyed forever just like that in a matter of just a few hundred years :biggums:
Its fukked up, really

Re: Post your go to Chipotle meal
i don't think it's going to be all that slow of a death, honestly.
still, to put things in perspective... everything has an end date... even subatomic particles (they eventually decay). the earth itself is in the last 9/10th of habitability by complex life due to the atmosphere slowly leaking in to space faster than dissolved gas in earth's rocky content is emitted to replenish it.
Oh look here, we have the cultured hipster that only eats "authentic" variations of the ethnic foods and does not succumb to the bland corporate versions. You are so cool bro.
But you should check up on your facts because "burritos" is not really "authentic" mexican food. It is mainly served in the Northern parts of Mexico and its origins might even be in California. Not to mention mexico is a country of over 100 million that encompasses different types of people and cultures. There is no authentic one size fits all Mexican food. Same thing with Chinese food. But you cultured hipsters are so ****ing dense to realize that and like to brag about eating in some hole in the wall.
Chipotle is the best fast food option out there. Not sure where the hate comes from.
Did you even read my post at all? Please point out to me where I said I don't eat Chipotle. Please tell me where I dissed Chipotle in anyway besides saying I personally can no longer eat it because it messes me up. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I'll wait.
Also to your second point. :biggums:
Were you drunk? Be honest.

Used this to calculate what we are getting with a chipotle burrito. There's a crap ton of sodium in all the meats and that's before you add salsa that has 20+% of the recommended sodium intake.

be happy there is a bastardized version of your food, whether its Chinese or Mexican. It makes your food popular and some of you are making a lot of $$$, not all countries have fake fastfood versions of their cuisine

Re: Post your go to Chipotle meal
I don't give afck if it's authentic.... They use good ingredients and it's cheap and fast... No one going there is doing so for authentic dining Christ... They're just grabbing a burrito at lunch

Chipotle is ok, the only problem I had was paying $8+ for burrito but after reading these comments about their quality ingredients i feel better about it.
Also, unless you speak fluent Spanish you shouldn't be judged for choosing chipotle over the local taqueria. I love Pad Thai and my go to place is a restaurant named Noodle World which is the equivalent to Chipotle in terms of authenticity. There's a whole in the wall authentic Thai place just down the road, but I find it more convenient to stop by Noodle World since the workers are your average English speaking college students. I'd hate to have a Thai person giving me shit for choosing the "fake" version over the real one.

Re: Post your go to Chipotle meal
Chipotle isnt ur traditional mexican food but it's good as hell. My only beef with them is that every fcking location varies on the amount of meat they put. I know what 4oz of steak looks like. I used to use a food scale a lot, until I became comfortable eye balling portion sizes.
Most locations skimp on the meat. You can ask for half and half in order to get more but it doesn't always work. If I'm paying $8 I better damn well get a hearty size of meat. Recently I was in Tucson and we went to 3 different chipotles, they all gave us huge portions of meat, it looked like double meat. Granted, their customer volume is nowhere near the volume of a Phoenix metropolitan area chipotle....but still, 4oz is not a couple cubes of meat.
I get:
Double steak
White rice
Pinto beans
Hot salsa
Sour cream
Cheese
Guac if I'm not broke
Btw, text 888222 for chipotle bogo coupons (sometimes they offer them...not always tho

for the record, chili's was founded around two decades earlier (1975) in dallas.
serrano's seems more recent given the limited # of locations and recent awards.
not sure if there was a 'dennys-style' texmex chain before all that. i mean, maybe chili's ripped off the concept even earlier...?

Serrano is in ****ing Iceland it looks like. Guarantee you it's a rip off of Chipotle.
Chipotle is BOMB. I miss it. There's a couple chipotle rip offs here in Brisbane and I make sure everyone knows it is a ripoff and chipotle dominates.
It was right across the street from where I would take all my classes in college as well so I had it pretty much every day.
Chipotle tortillas
"There are 300 calories in a tortilla ALONE. That, plus all the calories in everything else, you could easily have a burrito with 1500 calories or more," And there's a ton of sodium in everything. Pretty much the only purely healthy thing there is the brown rice," writes RoneTone.
Re: Post your go to Chipotle meal
i used to love Chilli's. one around my way went out of business tho. i think its one of the best in terms of those food chains when it comes to food. definitely better than TGIF's imo....loved their cheesesteaks, and they had this really good salsa salad chicken or something...i know there was other stuff i had there i thought was good too.

Go for the bowl, skip the guac. If you want to keep the sodium down, skip the salsas. You can easily make an 800-900 calorie bowl with around 50g protein which you can divide into 2 meals.

over here, the salt-free guac casero is definitely the way to go. if you mean the bowl made of tortillas, i wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole because of the salt / processed grain content.
in the west we generally eat way more protein than we need. i like to get a subway chopped veggie salad with some sriracha on top, add a serving of guac and mix in some low-sodium black beans and some ceviche on a meat day.

If you have to make that many adjustments for one served meal, the food you are ordering is obviously not too good for you.
