Re: The Future Of The Nba After TV Mega Deal Has Expired Looks Real Real Bad
Wut.
Obviously, it is hard to see who will end up becoming a mega star and why. We can't see the future.
You could have said the same in 1998 when MJ left. You didn't know back then that people like Iverson would become so popular and become a hero for the inner city kids...and that Kobe would get so good...and that Vince Carter would come and become the best dunker ever and gain sucha huge following, and that in 2002 ESPN would start nationally televising high school games of some kid named L. James...etc.
But they did.
And Kobe was SUPER hyped.
I woulda bet money back then he'd be a super star.
Same with ai and carter And bron.
You just KNEW they were special.
Who is that now?
The league has built itself a huge hole.
As a business, you need to grow. And TV just paid 3 times more than the last deal. That's a lot of money. After this deal, who is gonna make the TV companies pay MORE? I just don't see how in 10 years there will be MORE HOUSEHOULD names like the past 30 years.

another recession will blow up the nba due to these max contracts being ridiculously high... for a guy averaging 8 points to make 13-14 million is ludicrous
all the small markets will get contracted out of the league and bought out

No shit.
You just don't get it.
Marketability. Davis is dryer than saltine crackers.
He shave his eyebrow and he can pitch Gillette razors???
That's what NBA needs to keep this train going.
Market to the masses , to be a HOUSEHOULD nAme that a 15 year old from Des Moines Iowa would recognize.
That's why NBA got all the loot it got. 30 years of greats on AND off the court

Yea
I know biness.
It's like investing in a 20 light black market grow. The future is shaky. And you have to kill it to make money. 10 years from now? Shit.
Just wait skippy.
When TV doesn't get the ratings because the general public doesn't want to watch "good basketball" and scrubs are getting paid 10-15 mill a year , and all stars getting 25-30 million a year , then new TV contract comes up and they offer half, just wait what happens.
Lol eh, not really. Bron has benefited from playing in the weak east which inflates his stats. I'd give Durant's mvp season over Prime Kobe tho.
Lebron ain't up there with them Gods tho.
Under 30% from outside the paint lmao
It goes
Jordan
Kobe
Durant(has a good chance to over take Kobe with 4-5 rings)
Lebron(playing in the weak east, teaming up with a former Fmvp winner and 3rd greatest sg of all time, along with a 20 & 10 big man to get rings)
Kobe played with 3 different MVP's, a top 5 GOAT, multiple DPOY's, etc.. I don't see you crying about that.

Re: The Future Of The Nba After TV Mega Deal Has Expired Looks Real Real Bad
Actually the league is goin downhill during sterns era. Because he tries to rig it in favor of superstars. He wanted to create another jordan so he rigs lots of series in favor of kobe. Then it was brans turn. But it was not a recipe for success thats why we have 2 lockouts. Nfl and soccer were successful because of beautiful teamplay yet idiot stern wants superstars go 1 on 5 by giving them fts. Now that silver took over and let the best team won(spurs), its not A surprise that we just had 1 of the best rated finals ever. NbA is back.

Gyea
Tier 3in it.
Supply and demand. Exactly.
Right now supply of superstOars are good. Polarizing, houshould names superstOars.
Demand up. Big money being thrown around.
From train that started with bird and magic.
The league will have to grow 3 times in 10 years to be profitable for all pOarties involved.
Is that gonna happen?
I don't think so.

That is FUCCIN hilarious.

Nba is already on the rise even before stern. And he lucked out with jordan being charismatic thats why his strategy of superstars league works at the beginning. If it was bran/kobe, he wouldve been exposed a long time ago. Nobody wants to see streetball bro or else people would prefer nba over nfl or soccer.

Re: The Future Of The Nba After TV Mega Deal Has Expired Looks Real Real Bad
the longer you watch the same shit, the more stale it gets.
but after sitting through game after game watching the careers of wilt, russ, kaj, magic, bird, jordan, shaq, james, et al
you're worried a transformational player won't get drafted? when more people are playing basketball in the united states than ever before? with the sport at an all time high in popularity?
the money will create different issues. matters of media presentation and journalism around it; basketball player lifestyles; pricing will invariably change given monopoly; etc etc
but the game? not to worry. anthony davis. steph curry. kawai leonard. these are three incredibly unique players. more are on the way.
i disagree with adam silver on probably most everything he believes with regard to the way he runs the league.
but with regard to running the game, rule changes, understanding fans, all the little tweaks to fouls and defensive rules and the rest? ensuring we get the best bang for our buck, whatever that actually costs? i trust adam silver.
the game is in fabulous hands. you're blowing the tv deals out of proportion.

So your hypothesis is that after this NINE YEAR TV DEAL runs out the league won't have any marketable stars?
In nine years all the star players will be completely different.
The only guy who is a star NOW and could still be in NINE YEARS in Anthony Davis. Everyone else is a rookie or not even in the league yet. So really you're just talking out your ass. In nine years Dwade and LeBron's kids might be colluding to go star for the Havana Sharks.
edit: This 9 year deal doesn't start until 2016-17, which means you think the league will have no marketable stars around the 2024-25 season. If you can make a halfway accurate prediction of that, haul your ass to wall street.
It's not on decline.
It has to grow though to cover all the money.
Period.
We got lucky the past 30 years.
Sure fire players/teams that made NBA grow exponentially.
Always someone to pass the torch.
Bird and magic to Jordan. Jordan to Kobe Shaq and bron.
For the AMOUNT OF MONEY advertisers, TV companies and teams WILL HAVE TO MAKE to cover all the HUUUGGGEEEE contracts coming, to be PROFITABLE, the ratings have to be TRIPLE the best ever.
:facepalm
In 10 years what Kobe, bron, bird magic Shaq will carry the league to NEW HEIGHTS.
ALL OF THOSE PLAYERS WERE HOUSEHOLD NAMES BEFORE THEY PLAYED A GAME IN THE NBA.
Maybe not Jordan, but he became goat.
The amount of money the league has to make to grow depends on triple TV ratings.
Just wait. It's gonna get bad.
Word.
Football is more of a team sport.
Niggahs wear helmets. On the bench half the time.
Basketball needs superstOars to carry the league. Why THE AVERAGE fan tunes in.
Football is FAR MORE exciting to the average sports fan because it just is.
People like violence. People like gladiators. People like watching men try to kill each other. It's deep rooted bruh.
3 times bruh. The TV companies just paid 3 times as much. Players salaries are going to SKY ROCKET. After this deal, the players will want the same , but without growth, three times the growth , as a business, why would you pay MORE for a product that is lacking in what the people want to see- bonafied superstOars that 14 year old girls from Des Moines Iowa could recognize.
Three time g. Do the maf what a company gotta to do to keep wanting to invest MORE money and keep growin.

If you really know business bro esp sports business, you would realize that team sport>tennis or baseball(not a team sport). Theres a reason why we had the highest rating since jordan coz people now having hope that silver is different than stern when the spurs(playing the best team ball) won instead of rigging games to make kobe/bran the next jordan. Believe me bro, fans want beatiful plays and not superstars. Soccer doesnt have the gladiator style of nfl but its the most popular sport in the world and the only thing common between them? Its team play. If the league was really better during stern, the league wouldnt be in red.
-
Re: The Future Of The Nba After TV Mega Deal Has Expired Looks Real Real Bad
just go the NFL route and make it illegal to play any semblance of defense, and throw in a few interference calls to sway the end of close games.

Check the value of teams from 84 then when stern left.
Are you on acid ?
Players salaries.
Soccer?
Wtf is that?
This America. Tnt and abc/ESPN don't give a fucc bout soccer. Americans don't give a fucc bout soccer.
RATINGS WERE HIGH BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS WATCHING TO SEE IF BRON COULD WIN A RING IN HIS HOMETOWN.
Shit for brains.
You REALLY think the casual fan woulda tuned in to see the great team ball of the hawks vs warriors?
Swear. You people need to take your meds.
